@@JustTheWon That was my interpretation as well. My feelings are similar about the French language education I received in my province in Canada. I passed with really great grades, but I don't really speak French at all. We offer it in school for years, but it really isn't geared towards really teaching people to speak the language, we don't take it all that seriously. And this is in a bilingual province where the official languages are both French and English.
@@emmacd3210 I guess big factors in proficiency involve using it frequently and other speakers around you. Do you spend a lot of time in a French speaking sphere? Here in the Philippines, we're taught the national language that's mostly in Tagalog, our local language Bisaya, and English. But because most of our media and cartoons are in English and with ease of access to the internet, everyone I know writes and speaks good English.
@@emmacd3210 more or less same with English in Spain. that people mock you or think you're weird when you try to use proper English helps too, so people won't try to speak English, or at least to try and pronounce it properly. and I think Japan's problem is more like they haven't had a necessity of needing to actually learn English, since 90%+ of its population is Japanese. though Japan has increased in popularity over the last years, so hopefully they'll improve their English at schools.
lol pretty sure that was me i was the person who typed "cool house" in chat (though the subs here say "good house" im pretty sure she said "cool house") 😭😭😭
Wow Hakase's new house looks so pretty I can't believe Hakase showed everyone that she's actually a smart person, she's an english professor all along xD That Star Wars outro lol
Her glass house is really pretty! she must've forgotten what she learned in the lecture like me forgetting algebra in university lol it must be harder to retain when everything and everyone is in/ is speaking japanese
What does she mean about Japanese education? In America, we are required 2 years of foreign language, but it's not taken very seriously and nobody remembers it when they finish their courses. Is it like that?
I mean no offense to Hakase or Japan. But 80/100 for university english entrance exam ?! I'm genuinely curious, I've heard Japanese were not really good in English. Do they not learn foreign languages at school ? I'm not trying to be mean, I understand that cultures are different. I'm just surprised she scored so high for a university test with what *seems* like basic knowledge in english.
I think it's pretty difficult to learn any foreign language in school cause one teacher has to teach 20 people or more at the same time. It's especially difficult when the language you try to learn is so different from your native language, and Japanese and English languages have very little in common
I know right? Indonesia English education system is more or less similar with Japan, but some Indonesian that hit reach college year are able to understand and speak more English than Japanese could. I'm one of the privilege kid where I got exposed to the internet early where Internet service is still expensive, so my English comprehension is basically above Indonesian college students when I was in high school.
@かわいい Well, odds are that you've learnt some foreign language in school that you aren't fluent in, so imagine someone started speaking to you fluently in that language. Hard, right?
The level required is extremely basic, the focus is more on the reading and writing. You do learn in school, but that’s elementary level stuff, most of which you will forget when you go out into the real world. People who are into foreign entertainment might do better, but most people aren’t at conversational level.

The new 3.0 model is such a huge upgrade. Before she mostly had a blank expression but now she's so expressive.
She can understand english very well tbh, tho I understand where she's going with her last comment regarding education
Elaborate please, I don’t understand what she meant.
