Return to Sheeps Tor! Windy Walk, Wild Camp and a Ghostly Encounter???

  • Hello lovely people!!!
    I'm sorry this has taken me so long to edit but using new software it's taken me aaaaages!
    I absolutely loved this camp and the walk was incredible! I ended up in so much pain by the end as I think you can tell but it was worth every second, blister, ache and pain! Damn those hippy shoes!!! This is the furthest I have walked in two days for years and I just loved it. It was about 8 miles on the Saturday and 6 miles on the Sunday. That may not sound like much to some but for me it was a huge achievement, especially carrying my pack which usually weighs about 17kg - eek! I desperately need to be able to increase my stamina for walking further due some exciting plans I have later in the year but more on that another time :D
    The wind was so strong the entire weekend but I was so lucky with my pitch as it protected me so well from the majority of the wind and I was truly blessed to enjoy a sunset AND a sunrise!
    As for my weird, spooky experience.... the more I think about it the more it creeps me out! I have looked to see if there are any spooky legends about Sheeps Tor and the only stories I can find are in relation to Piskies who used to search for gold according to the legends so who knows?! It was clear as day in my ear though, creepy! Lol!
    Also, really exciting news that I have now reached over 2K subscribers which is absolutely incredible so thank you each and every one of you, you are making my dreams come true, literally! I love sharing my adventures with you all and it makes me very happy that you enjoy coming too!
    Take care and I will see you all again very soon!!! I may even do another live stream soon as I absolutely loved it! ❤
    Love,
    Karen

    What amazing views from where you were set up there. So worth the pain and coldness of the wind, eh?
    That sleeping bag... only a 650 fill and duck down... I heard goose down is warmer. But, 650 is a good filling mind.
    My Alpkit Pipedream 400 is a 750 fill with goose down and currently only £159.00 Toasty warm too.

    Great video. I watched the first half when I had a break after packing my pack for a wildcamp next week. Then the second half before bed after packing for the other 4 days at a paid campsite and hiking. Nice little inspiration before I go next week. I plotted and guessed where tou hiked. 7.30 miles . Roughly. Thew that is hike with all your gear. I will do a hike up to sheeps tor from the car park near there. Have a coffee to take in the views there. If there isn't anyone there do a mini vlog ovelooking the reservoir. I want to redo the hike to bleak house ruins again during the day again and then sit by river Lyd after the hike to chill before going back to base camp. I rarely have time to watch your videos or other peoples videos..sorry for that. Love the time lapses. I recommend highly the Boya lavier microphone to cut out the wind. I had that problem with my voice audiob even when I have increased it or using audacity which didn't resolve it. I got cold when I was hiking and doing a night vlog on the tor because I was eating nuts. Ate a all day breakfast mre meal while doing a night vlog on hound tor and I was toasty. So it.is true animal protein with animal fats help with increasing the body temperature.
    Plus hand warmers on the wrists which kept my temperature up. And a night vlog at bleak house ruins as well. And while I was night hiking I had 2 in my wrists. Plus during the night in the tent I always put hand warmers on the base of my feet between two pair of socks. And if it gets colder . Hand warmers on wrists as well. Which I did in minus 4 in Dartmoor in a 3 season tent . Brrr it was cold . I bought 2 packs of 10 pairs for next week . 10 pairs for hiking and 10 pairs for in the tent. Plus I have 11 pairs left as back up just in case I need them.for my wrists. Hope this helps. Haze outdoors gave me the idea and Alfie astectics on sleep system ideas with emergency blankets. Thisnis how I have dealt with the cold without a campfire and without a thermerest or down sleeping bag. You probably know all this . In just wanted to share food for thought.
    Thanx so much for the lovely video. And showing me that I am not the only one who likes the outdoors. Take care and keep being wild. Xx

    • @ksgonewild
      @ksgonewild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah thank you for watching and commenting!!! I really appreciate it 😃
      Yes those hand warmers are amazing and I always take a couple with me, they make a huge difference!
      Yes it was about 7.5 or 8 miles day 1 as I spent hours wandering around up on the Tor too and then the next day walked all the way back to Princetown. I calculated it as best I could on the OS app and it was about 15 miles in total which for me is mammoth especially when my pack is not lightweight lol!
      Hope you have two brilliant camps and that the weather is good for you!
      I will also check out that mic you suggested so thank you again!
      Have a brilliant weekend!! 🥰

    A great spot for a wild camp. Try and get to a proper outdoor shop and get their help with some walking boots. If you have good boots that fit you well, you'll never get another blister and that makes such a difference when you start walking further. Best investment I've ever made was some decent walking boots. Also get Bridgedale socks, and sock liners. Two pairs of socks also helps reduce any chances of blisters.

    • @ksgonewild
      @ksgonewild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for the advice. First time I’ve ever had blisters and was wearing Bridgedale socks funnily enough but just the one pair. Those boots are sooo comfortable but are falling apart, will have to save up for a new decent pair.
      Thank you so much for watching! 😃

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ksgonewild I used to think blisters were just part of walking, but getting some good boots fitted has banished them completely. The liner socks are really thin, so you put them on first before your main socks. The theory is that these two layers run together with internal movement, as opposed to your skin and sock, so stops rubbing and blisters.
      I've walked 53 miles in one go, half of which I had soaking wet feet and still no rubs or blisters.

    • @ksgonewild
      @ksgonewild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheWalkingKev that’s amazing! I have been bought some blister proof socks which sound like basically the same thing.
      It just took me by surprise because it’s never happened before and I’ll often walk a good few miles but just not quite as far as I did on this camp.

    Thank you for the shout out young lady, and the 'advertising' of the Loch Shiel charity adventure, very kind of you. The more huge Yt'ers like yourself that can give a shout out the better...
    Those were indeed crane bases, probably the counter balance props to the main crane. They'd have been joined to a vertical a-frame which had an arm and winch attached. I remember the old crane at Merrivale when I used to visit as a boy, (my grandfather was quarry manager) although mechanical it also had them.
    That was quite some distance covered, so well done for that. Pew Tor never looked so epic...
