@XxBec3509 yes I was on the train and got to see inside that coach, there were extra water tanks inside and the tender was topped up as they were going along using a pump.
Huckford sounds good and looks good ,,i found another place ,,,just north of chippenham ,,with a mega pan the biggest you have ever seen ,,should have gone ther but the train went parkway ,, next time we have a train out of Bath in going there its got the sun on the side and it up hill
@FonteDeiMarmii agree looks like it was just another steam train ,, dosent have any hint of a modern day railtour .,the loco looks like it ment it !! :)
@Bobcatonline thanks bob ,,bit hard to keep up with it ,, i lost it under the bridge,, it was shifting ,,:) nice with the sun on it too , a brief flash of light ,,
+eamh2002 That's pushing it. I think with a modern aerodynamic design, high pressure boiler, no carriages to haul and the best fuel running at its highest temp, I'd wager steam locomotives could probably get to 160mph max with a manned stoker crew, most likely with 2 as it would need a near constant supply of fuel. To go beyond that they would need boilers which are hotter, which requires faster fuel injection, especially at higher speeds, meaning they would need automated coal belts/screws to fuel the firebox.
+Laurie May More like "Red Devil was on the way until Apartheid ended, the UN sanctions against South Africa ended, suddenly, steam locomotives lost their power and running costs advantages over diesel locomotives." What a truly modern 'high speed' steam locomotive would need is a water tube boiler, oil-firing, compounding, MASSIVE wheels, roller/ball bearings on everything that turns.
I think the limiting factor is not so much their pulling power, or their stability in turns etc, as the brakes. How does the stopping ability of one of these babies (and a full rake of classic carriages) stack up against modern locos and rolling stock? Steam engine brakes looked to be pretty dismal the last time I saw a demonstration of them, though that was a somewhat older engine on a classic "light" rail line (therefore limited to 25mph AFAIK)
It makes you wonder, considering these trains were built decades ago, how fast you could get a modrn steam engine to go... If you could hit 200mph you could alter HS2 to be a steam exprss railway, saving the lndscape from characterlss electric motors and bringing back far more jobs than the equivalent leccy trains. Nt only that but it would give gd cause to reopen the mines, accessing the coal that is so abundant and has been left for a rainy day...With dsl prices soaring, now would be the time
i dont get it...why dont they still use them? they are the best on all points (maybe a bit lack of speed tho) but common, its not about getting there fast, its the trip, a good trip gives a good smile, id like to see that they did a test for a whole year, a steamtrain agains todays trains, for sure in sweden the steamtrain would kill the other todays trains and hold the schedule without getting late!!
you call this the fastest, but give no statistics in the description , guess i should know allready ,but am not of the hugely informed type of rail enthusiast, just casual
I ove this shot, the angle and the lineside are just right, it coulld almost be the late 50's/.
Remarkable..
5043 looks so good, sun glinting off that paintwork and speeding through the west!
Agh! those were the days, take me back to the 50s please!
Glorious shot of a great loco. Congratulations 5*
Great vid...now added on my favourites!
Thanks you, Videos very nice,
Fantastic loco and great record breaking run - thanks for sharing it!, cheers. Ken

@letmadnessbegin thanks m8 for looking and adding your comment Sean :)
Very nice, the loco obviously did very well to run this train at such a fast timing, apparently with ease.
@JohnPW22 thankyou for looking :) and adding a comment Sean
@vladimir2366fa thankyou very much for all of your comments on my videos :) Greetings to you Sean

@XxBec3509 Thanks Sean, although if steams up that way again, I'll more likely be going to Huckford again to try and improve my shot.
the only thing better than an Earl is a King!!
@hughrobertwright great to get a report from the location its self ..:) thanks

Scottx125Productions - Spiffingly Serious British Gaming! Red Devil was on the way until dastardly diesel took precedence. Inevitable, of course.

@itfcsam hi m8 ,,busy week end this weekend battery charged sanwichs packed lol

I bet they could go 200mph easily. And I bet they would have done it in the 60's if no one thought of electicity before :)
network rail, let steam go faster! they've proven they're more than capable of the speeds, and power... AND might i add... the weather conditions

@Bobcatonline check out the red water coach ,, i got a clear shot of it ,, so trains can run none stop ,, great idea ,, eh ?
i add new video - Berlin Warszawa Express & loco Eurosprinter ES64U4-D ;)

'fastest steam journey ever'. Very unlikely for a locomotive that isn't even streamlined.
速い!
@JimTLonW6 good job eh !
yes but its the owners of egines to they dont want em to go faster than 90 mph
byłem w UK w wakacje 2008, miałem dużo stamtąd filmów, ale ktoś mi się włamał na moje konto i je skasował :( za film duże 5*****
