Z version was on wider side, at least a couple of degree more of my 55° fav 40mm. That's another plus! because all 40ies tend to be slightly longer an some have also bad breathing.
Shading Compensation on Sony cameras is applied to the raw files unlike Nikon and Canon AFAIK. If you're seeing lesser vignetting on Sonys this might be the reason.

I still carry Sigma 40mm F1.4 for astrophotography. It’s humongous. 😂
