I appreciate the tip for finding 5200 in California. We’re from Alaska and it’s everywhere. For our project I opted for 4200, it’s a little less permanent but still flexes. We are doing renovations on our camper and your videos have been helpful and given us ideas. Thanks Ben
A small window or sealable vent on the side of the shower allows humid air to be pushed outside via the pressure of a rooftop MaxFan set to pull air in reverse. We do this in our Pleasure Way Ascent with the furnace running when we shower and warm dry air is pumped into the shower.
Looking good so far. My issues is I would have 5200'd inside the whole length of the overlap of the panels then caulked the inside seams to prevent 'sharp edges'. I'm surprised that they didn't manufacture with some sort of interlocking seams with that price... Under the pan, I would have placed a small wedge (1/2" pitch in one direction or another (towards the drain) to help with drainage, too.
Seems like a better no hassle solution would be to have a lower bowl (square) shaped pan below with a slotted floor above. Otherwise his current setup or even sloped floor would be a pain in the ass unless the van is perfectly leveled. Agree with running walls to the floor of the pan. His current setup is pretty awful. Once he gets some weight and vehicle twisting twisting that thing is going to leak at the seams, mold, and eventually cause a load of problems.
This would depend on what the valve is made from. Let's say the valve is made from a diecast material that is chrome plated. If you scuffed the chrome the zinc will be exposed and corrode under the remaining chrome, and then the chrome would peel. This is not good. I suggest leaving it alone.
Hello My dad when he was younger is so much like you guys. I really enjoy watching people figure things out and learn along the way ! I think your work is fabulous and your builds are really nice. I hope one day to travel/ live in a van or Skoolie
Pro-tip with the shower water pressure... Unscrew the handle hose and pick out the little plastic regulator, reconnect hose and viola! Better pressure.
Awesome build! You could put a Teak floor in your shower. A lot of sail boats and yachts use it because it's extremely dense wood, which makes it practically water proof. 🤓👍🏽😁
To do your caulking run a bead down where you want it to go, making sure there are no holes. Then get some diluted detergent in a spray bottle and spray the bead. This will ensure that when you run your finger down it won’t spread. Works perfectly every time.
Really nice build! Regarding P-traps, there is an in-line trap called HepVo. It has a one way membrane valve and eliminates the need for a vent as well.
Use a silicone squeegy to move all the left over water down the drain. I used one in deep square stainless steel sinks to get then dry at the end of the night when i was working an old closing resturant job.
It really is looking great Buddy, you're doing a bang up job, seriously Well Done. Please don't be pressured by your timeframe, good things come to those who wait. Again, Well Done
5200 fast cure will yellow . I figured that out when the yacht owner texted me from the Bahamas- WTF is going on in my shower ! Took 2 hours to caulk , 12 hours to cut it all out without damage .
Nice job, although I do think you’ll have to move the shower drain tube up higher onto the grey tank. We also have a flat shower pan, and it is something I regret that we didn’t add some pitch. It is a pain to clear standing water - we do have a teak shower mat, but it still needs to be dried after each use. We use a squeegee and our dust pan. Definitely not my favorite activity.
Your build is amazing. I’d love to add some of your ideas to my van some day. Right now I’m traveling in my rig, getting to experience being in it and learning about my needs.
I have watched many van conversions and I like your style, attention to detail, and materials you are choosing, they are very nice! I am a new subscriber, looking forward to your new videos!
If you want a good shower head for low pressure like an RV use an Oxygenics shower head, feels powerful yet uses very little water, 100% better than the stock RV shower head. Cheers,
Hi, Steven: You couldn't find a lake to shower in?, state parks are full of them... The shower you're installing is very nice and you are the only one who has to look, at the fixtures when you are in the shower. Personally, as long as the shower works and the difference in color tone, is very slight then I don't normally get irked about the color of my fixtures.. Part of the spread issues of the caulking could be caused by the material being used for the shower...You could always find a material to cover the interior of the shower that you like better, which is waterproof and will cover the caulking issues.. While you can caulk aluminum and rivet it to use as an interior for a shower, normally it is soldiered or welded together...
The showers turned out great! I’m wondering if there will be issues with draining out the grey tank with that hose going to the bottom. As it fills up, I imagine water pressure will push water back up that line.
Re: low pressure shower heads: There is usually a small, plastic, pressure regulator, where the hose attaches, that can easily be pulled out with a pair of pliers, if you want more water pressure, at the expense of water usage.
I have the yitahome 5 gal portable toilet and it comes with the sink with hand pump, if you guys don't want to deal with plumbing in your rigs, this set is on sale alot and they have a cheaper version for 150$ definitely a great setup for budget builds. In terms of a shower run propane through a tankless heater to a small shower:) I have a cargo trailer I've been building for awhile
An idea: have you seen the van showers where the door splits in two, and the top half is able to angle out at a 60 degree angle to add shoulder room? Your van is unbelievable. Loved the kitchen galley!
Great work, you need to protect your pipes, fuel line and fuel pump for heater and gray water tank from road debris . Ice debris could rip it during winter.
One problem I had is when braking the water sloshed back up the shower drain! That did not smell good... I installed an inline one way valve to stop this little issue :)

I used to live in a camper that had a skylight over the shower. It makes full-size showers feel claustrophobic. It really felt like you were almost showering outside every time you did, and, it had a split shower/toilet combo. So... Very luxurious toilet usage as well xD I don't know if a skylight is in your field of view here or if it is even possible without ruining warranties on things like your shower pan/shower enclosure, but I would consider it.
From the position of the toilet vent hole it looks like you are placing the toilet on the same wall as the shower fixtures. I would have placed it opposite. I use a shower chair in my shower - and the most useful position is sitting down facing the shower fixtures. This is the common Japanese sitting shower position too, where they use tiny stools on the floor facing the fixtures. With the toilet opposite, it serves as your shower chair - useful for me because of leg injuries, useful to you because of your unreasonable height. I'd also have a second lower shower head holder that is optimized for sitting down. The high one is for full body rinsing of your front and back while standing. If that sounds useful for your situation - you could still just switch the use of the two shower pan holes to the new configuration.
Did you think about a second drain hole in the opposite corner so it will drain when sloping the other direction? I am looking forward to seeing your insulating/heating plan for the under van plumbing for cold weather.
Yes I thought about it. My shower pan happened to be in a location that didn’t allow for holes in the other corners without some serious drilling through the frame structure.
@@seven_o_savage Hey man, just wanted to ask you about the Separett toilet - how did it work out in the wet bath? You can make chrome finish look satin by scuffing it with a automotive scuff pad. sand(scuff) in same direction that match your others.

Should have added a recirc system and thermostatic valve to save water and Gray tank space. There is still time.

Pour a bottle of vinegar down the drains periodically (whether it smells or not) ... let it sit for a day and it will take care of gray tank thing.
