Can't really think of anything Versatile on Drums🤔.But that's just me🤷🏻♂️,U know me Since 1993 from The Crow.If my name's🐲Brandon & I only Carry a Guitar🎸.Cheers✌🏻 Though.
Play 8th notes at a very low volume with all four limbs in four different sound sources at the same time (hh w/foot, Bd, snare and ride for instance). try to avoid flaming and increase up and down one limb at time while keeping the other at low volume. Great exercise for Dynamic Independence.
You Thomas Lang and Dave Weckl is the phenomenon in education and perfection. Clean, technical, dynamic, explicit in what you want to show us! Thanks 🙏🇸🇪
One Tip: If you haven't tried moeller technique, check it out and learn it from guys like Claus Hessler. This will benefit your dynamic playing a lot :)
I like his playing even more when he incorporates the two rack Tom's versus the single setup. It just seems to spice things up a little more but that's just my opinion on it✌
@@CHRISDRMS27 yeah I believe it's an older video because the one rack tom setup is more of his current setup but all he did was replace it with a 20 inch bass drum aka gong drum mounted on floor tom legs which is pretty cool though. I like the sound of big fat sounding floor toms but dynamically I still wished he just play his original two rack tom setup with the addition of the 20 inch gong drum. Now that would be a killer setup for him too play in my opinion and I hope he does it in the future✌
Thomas, I’m a big fan of your work! Your bass drums sounds killer in this one! Could you please share the curves of your EQ for the bass drum just for this session specifically?
Me gusta el estilo de Thomas lang, y creo que es uno de los mejores bateristas de la época. A seguir adelante, aprendo mucho a pesar que me cuesta el idioma inglés
there are four pillars of music melody, harmony, rhythm, and dynamics... 0:59 ... and a fifth - intensions - what are you trying to say? as drummers we can play melodic and harmonic your intensions could bring in the harmony and melody and create an entire work without other instruments... example Neil Peart solo's studied, expanded, emulated...what he studied like Hal Blaine you can be a hundred different people but you must find yourself in there somewhere and expression is what separates decisions .
Too bad your audio engineer did not understood how important a dynamic sounding drumset was for this lesson, and his crushed dynamics (compressors) made ghost notes and hard hits sound pretty much at the same volume. They where distinguishable only due to their different characteristical tone, but volume wise, it all sounded the same.
@@CD-gk9ix That's about the dumbest comment I've read all day. Drumming is not a contest, you dolt. There's no such thing as "best" of anything in drumming. It's about making music. And as far as the nickname "The Professor" goes, Peart had earned that moniker before Lang was even born. Now go sit in the corner, junior.
@@CD-gk9ix A boomer wouldn't know how to use the internet or TH-cam. And thanks for making my point. The Professor has left this earth, and that nickname went with him.
Share one tip you have on improving your dynamic range in the comments!

Been watching you for 15 years Thomas..thank you for your drumming..
Thanks Daddy Thom... Favorite student from Ghana
Very good!!!

good to see Thomas with an additional mounted tom! That setup was killing me
Your my fav bro, I learn so much from your playing✌
I love that Thomas is back to 2 mounted toms and 2 bass drums!
Amazing dynamic control he made those drums and cymbals sing!
Thanks for the great video - gonna practice now!
Let us know what you come up with!
Wow, Thomas is back with two rack toms

I Was thinking the same 😅 Love his 2 tomtoms set up 🔥
@@luigipioderrico it's tight isn't it! He's definitely able too add more dynamics to his playing with that setup, in my opinion😁
That video seems to be old... Guess from 2016 or even earlier

The tune of the snare is sick as f.
Paradiddles on hit+snare indeed help to get better dynamics. My tip is to use ghost notes everywhere

Thomas is Thomas!!!
Que chimba parcero, excelente batero, salu2 desde Col, estoy aprendiendo este lindo instrumento, saludos man.
That is one amazing sounding kit. Or it is with TL playing it.
monster!!
Wow
I like how he double bass before he hit the drums😂
Well if you have bozzios kit you can play a meledy, or a vibraphone.
I just came for the solo part.

Gotta love that natural Austrian charisma lol
He might have a future in drums if he keeps working at it... 😜
Metronomes play to Thomas.
The dislikes are from drummers that have no idea what dynamics are! 🤣🤣🤣
Cute little baby toms.
I want to hear you play those adorable baby toms on your left. What are they called? They're not just rotto ttoms?
Someone help me out here.
"We cannot play melodic stuff on modern drumsets."
Terry Bozzio is on the line to call out this garbage statement.
I think Thomas knows that and means for the standard drummer playing in a group setting.
Bozzio’s stuff is garbage.
@@CD-gk9ix You obviously can't comprehend melodic playing. And the millions of records he's sold say otherwise.
