- Sadiq Khan's plans to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone, or Ulez, to Greater London has led to a backlash against the Mayor. Under the rules vehicles that don’t meet emission requirements will face heavy fines. The Telegraph’s Steven Edginton visited Hatch End in north west London to speak to local businesses about the impact of the Ulez expansion.

We need to pull ourselves out of London and back into Surrey, Kent, Midx etc and take away the control and dictatorship that the Mayor and TFL puts on Greater London.

The emissions are the thin end of the wedge ( like road tax) TfL as revenue drops with cars compliant they will just lower the threshold to bring a new raft of non compliant vehicles as mentioned just look at the cost of road tax based on emissions ,for heavens sake Wake Up London .

I am not from London, and my vehicle at present is not legible for the charges. Yet whilst supporting Green policies, I don't agree with the extension of the charge, but it will really hit the poorest the hardest plus the public workers in education, health service, police, etc. By making many roads 20 mph, that will help with pollution but electric cars cause pollution as well with particles from tyres.
At this moment in time, wrong tax, on the wrong people, tax the airplanes from the City of London airport, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.
They should use travel alternatives.

Once the cameras and system is in place the goalposts will continuously move. This is the start of something terrible. Be prepared for more cars becoming non compliant the following years, price hikes. It won’t stop.
We are pensioners and already struggling, how are we supposed to buy a newer car because he says so? Our vehicle has a lower emission then many new vehicles and I have the MOT test paperwork to prove it. But to him it does not count. Will he buy me a newer vehicle? He seems to be able to afford it.
He is willing to throw pensioners under the (low emissions) bus!
All of these zones is to reduce traffic, so that the middle class can get to places faster. That's it

In Manchester 28 cameras have had tyres put over them and lit set alight or they have been cut down with angle grinders and thats just in manchester .Maybe other citys have been attacked .

This will affect not only Londoners but also those just outside the zone, so the logical way to deal with this is for those councils just outside the zone to reverse the situation and bring in road usage charges, of, say £500 per day, for any vehicle with a London owner that passes through their area and use the funds to refund their residents who have had to pay the London charge; that would do two things: 1 save their residents the cost of the London charges, and 2 really annoy Londoners so they stop voting for Khan.

The CONservatives, in the form of Grant Shapps as Transport Secretary, Boris Johnson as PM, and Rishi Sunak as Chancellor, forced Mayor Khan to extend Ulez, by writing a letter to Khan in May 2020, demanding he extends Ulez as a condition for funding TfL.
Rishi Sunak as Chancellor, Boris Johnson as PM, and Grant Shapps as Transport Secretary, designed, implemented and funded policies for Active Travel, which released £millions to local councils that implemented Central Tory policies for traffic restrictions across the UK.
All roads lead back to Central Tory MPs.
