This Sadiq Khan just don’t get it when he is getting caught out. A lot of people lost their cars because of this ULEZ. The entire scheme should get scrapped and someone should start a petition to get him out!!
Car users pay tax upon tax upon tax. We pay for our fuel, we pay duty on the fuel and then we pay tax on the total. We pay to drive, we pay to park, some of us even pay residents' parking fees when we are leaving the car at home. London has a £15 congestion charge and now this goon is trying his luck with his £12.50 ULEZ tax. It's time this guy was given the boot.
Born into money, you are correct Eileen.. Has no concept of the daily struggle of the average wage. Electric cars are more doing more damage to earth than the fumes from petrol and diesel cars, but as long as he makes money he won't give a shit.
London has one of the biggest and busiest airports in the world(Heathrow). I can't even think how high the emissions from all the aeroplanes are. Also, you have Gatwick to the south and Luton to the north, both of which have flight paths across London. At least cars have catalytic converters and DPE filters. If pollution is the real issue, then the mayor needs to sort out the flight emissions first.
When you factor in how many people fly on an aircraft 400+ it’s not that bad, also produce and goods etc come in on them. private jets on the other hand, that is a huge amount of emissions per person. Which one do you think will be demonised? You wanting an annual foreign holiday or the billionaire on his weekend jollies? I’ll give you a clue, the poorer one is the monster.
Whilst the airport does vary the over flight paths, planes overfly at the rate of 1 every 90 Seconds! The difference in air quality was at its clearest when the Iceland volcano grounded all flights but car usage was unchanged , compared to lockdown, when most drivers were at home, but flight kept coming in.
Why would he do that? it would mean him tackling big business to acheive his 'goals' which isn't easy, while normal car-owning Londoners are far, far easier 'soft' targets. This is exactly why the government is basically blaming the average person for climate change and forcing us to spend our OWN money to fix it (EV's, heat pumps, solar etc)
Fills me with nothing but joy when i see Sadiq Khan squirm. He could not be more out of touch if he tried, what is his obsession with trying to make the poorer even poorer?
Most struggle to afford it if they have to drive to and from work every day. What is missing from Khan's explanation is the number of people earning less than £10,000, and the number earning between £10,000 and £20,000. It could be that there are only 100 people in each category, so it would matter not that 70% of them do not have a car. It still leaves 30% who do. Still doesn't mean that ULEZ should be imposed on us all. He believes that by reciting it incessantly he will make it true and proplecwill believe him...
@@lottieallen9458 Especially as household. Household that earns less than that has to either be on welfare - therefore don't really need a vehicle - or a single parent on a part time job. Impossible that two workers earn less than 10k a year in London even part time.
@@isaacs3413 Two? Are you assuming everyone lucky enough to be married? Bold assumption. Quote: "In 2022, over 28.9 million people in England and Wales were single, compared with 24 million who were married."
@@rogerexcell249 Ye re-read my comment. If you're single and working fulltime you earn more than 10k so irrelevant, if not then you're on welfare so don't need a car.
@@isaacs3413 Well, yes, but there's this wonderful world where you're not full time, aka agency where you 'get the hours they give you, and like it'. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a full time, contract job and if you work agency, you dont get benefits. We exist. We're not made up. Accept it. Let me break it down for you. Most agency workers get let go as a lovely Cristmas bonus right before the end of the year. Companies enter a slow period between the end weeks of December and the start of the new business year in April. That means the number of jobs drops sharply for those 4 months. A lot of those workers will be unable to find gainful employment for that period. For those individuals they will end up working, unwillingly, an 8 month year. Based off a 48 hour work week of 12 hr shifts, 4 on 3 off, at £8.60 (Min. wage went up this year. YAY). 3/4 year employment you will earn around £16,000. Last year it came to £14,000. This assumes no sick days for injury. Now imagine paying rent or mortgage, utility bills, car maintainance, and food on top of this and you can see why people are struggling. Worth remembering, if the average UK wage is 35K, and yet some people are earning 100K+ or even millions a year, that means most people earn less than 35K, and some below 20K, and an unfortunate few less than 15K. Not everyone is average. Think of the outliers. PS. also note jobseekers only works if you have zero savings. As soon as you have 3K in a bank, a mere 3K, you get NOTHING for jobseekers. What is amazing is nowhere in UC does it ask you how many debts you have. Hillariously, if you had a maxed out credit card with 100K debt and 10% interest, but 3K in savings, you dont get anything between jobs. Thats a -97K debt... but you get no financial support when between jobs. This always makes me laugh. Litterally as soon as your job ends, be sure to wipe out all your life savings to clear as much debt as you can, or you dont get to eat that week! Just pray your car doesnt get written off by a drunk driver, or the boiler doesnt break down. I'm sure it'll be fine! "♪♫ All ways look on the bright side of life! ♫♪"
Sadiq Khan’s, to reduce toxic air by expanding the ULEZ to greater London will not work. He doesn’t really care about toxic air quality and here is why: - He has already made the toxic air far worse since he has introduced the LTN’s which have increased the toxic air on the main roads because we are forced to use them as there are no other alternatives, especially during rush hour. The roads are now grid locked with traffic moving at walking pace and the fumes are getting denser and not dispersing. LTN’s need to be reopened as it is causing more damage than good. Among all this, the mileage in vehicles has also increased due to the fact that we are forced to go the long way round to get to the required destination - all accumulating to even more emission being emitted! Bravo Sadiq & team. - The health for pedestrians and children as they walk along these main routes to get to stations, schools, shops is deteriorating. Even the drivers inhale more fumes when we are stuck in stationary traffic. This is really aggravating and makes no sense! - Cycle Lanes: Should not be taking up an extra lane of the roads, large pavements could be divided into two for cyclists. - The introductions of 20MPH roads are also a problem because emission fumes don’t disperse quickly and the air is getting even more polluted because of the need to drive in lower gears. Sadiq’s statement: “It is to reduce toxic air pollution” is clearly not accurate and is making matters worse. The situation is getting extremely out of hand and something needs to be done to stop him from ruining our climate even more. He should resign and Londoners should vote for someone who will make London a greater and more desirable place to live in. There needs to be a more logical and strategic plan that is well thought. Vinnie Lauda
Correct on every point, politicians create a problem to then offer us the solution. I had to take my van to work in Hammersmith the other day, a 7.5mile journey. I left at 7.10am, and got on site at 8.45am! As you say not being able to use side roads, 20mph zones and the fact in that area the Hammersmith Bridge is STILL shut 3yrs later, the main roads simply can't cope, it's insanity.
I know of two carers living and working in the expanded zone who cannot afford to upgrade their cars. Both will be resigning from their jobs as they can't get to their different clients using public transport.
With cities no longer designed around the pedestrian but the car, suburban residents are much more likely to own vehicles, as they are physically removed from city centres, which are themselves vehicle dependent spaces.. poor people do own cars, many of whom can't afford them, but own them out of necessity. These vehicles are a lifeline for them, otherwise cut off from schools, work and all other necessities..
If you live in inner London you are less likely to own a car whether you're rich or poor. There's no where to park and the transport system is better for getting about. We can argue till the cows come home, this is just another cash cow being implemented.
Khan and his TFL research looked just at what they call the "doughnut" surrounding the existing CC zone and Ulez, and came to the conclusion mid 200k cars would be affected. The RAC have done their own research with data from the DVLA and simply counted up the cars not ULEZ legible and came up with a number around 650k. Do we even need to ask which group is lying/manipulating the truth?
A simple question....even if one could afford to replace their petrol/diesel vehicles in favour of an electric car how on earth are we expected to charge the vehicles if a property does not have its own driveway? Do the politicians expect charging leads possibly at least 10 or 15 metres long to be draped across footpaths so as to meet the demands of I'll thought out schemes. ULEZ will simply drive down the fabric and infrastructure of life as we know.
You’re to live in a pod and eat bugs In Your 15min city. National grid is already overburdened, what do you think 15million electric cars would do? You’re not to own a car! You’re to stay in your allocated district and pay fines for leaving it.
It also doesn't factor in those people who may live outside the Mayors fiefdom,, but travel into London for work, family or social reasons. In some outer boroughs buses services are being cut in frequency so he keeps repeating his own spin.
Never underestimate peoples potential for evil, especially for party or ideology or destroying everything the English culture, values and history stood for
Those numbers quoted by Khan must include those on minimum wage in the first years of their employment. Back in the 1970's I was young and did not earn enough to even think about an old, secondhand car. I'm now a pentioner, and like so many others we tend to keep our cars for longer, and now will fall foul of the ULEZ expansion.
A Labour mayor who cannot comprehend the impact ULEZ has on poorer people. Primary school levels of logic would tell you that the poorest in society are most likely to own the oldest cars and therefore the least compliant with later emissions requirements. They have however, bought these cars in good faith and if they're MOT'd, taxed and insured surely those three things should be the measure of compliance to drive freely on the national highway network.

The London Mayor just doesn't get it. Ot he does, but dodges the issue. Let me answer the previous question, which he made up in his answer to dodge the issue.
The man is a complete fool. Even my dog would be able to understand the questions being put to him, and my dog would probably have been able to answer the questions, a feat that seems totally impossible to the Mayor of London. I was no fan of Ken Livingstone, but at least he was able to, and did, answer questions.

I agree, he probably doesn't understand outer London because he doesn't go there. He does however fly over it quite a lot. Khan, his deputies and officials are thought to have clocked 360,000 air miles since he he was first elected in 2016. Generating an estimated 23.1 tons of CO2. His publicly-available flight expenses feature trips to the US, Zurich, Mumbai and Warsaw. His more recent trip to the Buenos Aires C40 eco-conference added another 14,000 air miles to that total. And he has the nerve to preach to us about emissions and climate change.
you only have to walk/drive down any residential road on any day/evening and almost every house has a car on the drive or parked outside,Khan is a complete clown.
This push to ban cars is all about government power. Coal and precious minerals are required to generate electricity, so banning petrol powered vehicles is contradictory as there will still be air pollution from continuing mining operations. By the way ev batteries cause more pollution when they are being recycled for the very little minerals recovered.
He knows he is lying, you know he is lying and we know he is lying. The only reason I can see that he is still able to continue down this path of destruction is that he has the green light from Westminster.
Grew up in Bexleyheath - had a car as soon as possible. Moved to West Oxfordshire where you need a car, particularly with three children & a husband that worked distances we had 2 until the teenagers started driving. Following a divorce & moving to Rotherhithe we got rid of the car & have not had one for five years but we have a great public transport system here! Not in Bexley, Bromley, Sutton, etc. We also have a car club that allows us to visit Oxfordshire to meet my family. One cannot equate life in central London to the poorly served South London having clay, poor public transport options and a serious requirement to own a car. I voted against the extended ULEZ

Thank goodness for standing up to this tyrant
Whenever I see khan being asked questions, he just mocks the person asking the question or abuses them, he’s not professional at all.

It makes him and his rich mates richer.

What about those earning between £10k and £20k. They wont be able to afford UZEZ. He's a conman
He doesn’t really care about toxic air quality and here is why:
- He has already made the toxic air far worse since he has introduced the LTN’s which have increased the toxic air on the main roads because we are forced to use them as there are no other alternatives, especially during rush hour.
All of this is correct
TELL HIM
If you live in inner London you are less likely to own a car whether you're rich or poor.

The called scrappage scheme.

So virtually nobody gets their vehicle paid for...
Omission is a crime when a public servent does it.
The mayor is quoting sub £10,000 earners. Does he think a person on £20,000 a year and kiving in greater London is wealthy?
A simple question....even if one could afford to replace their petrol/diesel vehicles in favour of an electric car how on earth are we expected to charge the vehicles if a property does not have its own driveway?
Do the politicians expect charging leads possibly at least 10 or 15 metres long to be draped across footpaths so as to meet the demands of I'll thought out schemes.
ULEZ will simply drive down the fabric and infrastructure of life as we know.
I keep wondering that?
You’re to live in a pod and eat bugs In Your 15min city.
National grid is already overburdened, what do you think 15million electric cars would do?
You’re not to own a car! You’re to stay in your allocated district and pay fines for leaving it.

According to Khan' s logic, those cars don't belong to the residents. They are paying £10,000 pa in parking fees so they can go to work in the city.
It’s quite obvious that the mayor is completely out of his depth ! Which begs the question , how did he manage to get the job ?.
This push to ban cars is all about government power. Coal and precious minerals are required to generate electricity, so banning petrol powered vehicles is contradictory as there will still be air pollution from continuing mining operations. By the way ev batteries cause more pollution when they are being recycled for the very little minerals recovered.
