    I wish everyone making videos would mention the month in which you’re doing what. I get so confused. If you said the month, even years later a watcher could calculate. At least that would sure help me.

    If you sterilise your tools you must sterilise the table as well.
    Spray dirt off the root system as well before putting into new soil to stop spread or pests and fungus.

    I really appreciate you making this video. My daughter bought me one of these and I knew by the way it was looking it was ready for a bigger home but I wasn’t sure what type of soil it liked. Great information, thank you.

    Making a comment to hopefully help your channel help your channel!! I just purchased my first desert rose ever from Lowe’s. It was in pretty good shape to come from Lowe’s $25.99; Let’s see how this goes!!!

    Hi Carl. I did exactly what you’ve done in this video and one year later I still have just a stump. It’s a beautiful, fat, firm stump, but nothing ever grew back. Amy thoughts why? Thanks!

    I didn’t realize you shouldn’t water immediately after repotting/trimming. Good to know! Thanks!

    Love to watch as I have Desert Roses. I live in Kentucky and it is winter here so my plants are indoors with my grow lights.

    I recently trimmed a mature desert rose. About 2-3 Weeks ago. We have had some rain, but it is under an eave. When should I expect to see new sprouts?

    After cutting away the roots i apply fungicide then leave it in the shade. Pls tell me how long to leave it in the shade. When can i repot n water it?

    • @CarlDoesStuff
      @CarlDoesStuff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most people say 10 days to 2 weeks. I often just leave mine in the sun to be completely honest. Waiting to water them will help swell the caudex

    You are best in class. Great presentation.
    Question: is there an angle to cut at to get a better “spread”? Like angle in towards center or angle out for wider umbrella.

      Doesn't matter. I cut straight across. Thanks for the comment!

    I live in Indiana and I have a very sad looking desert rose. It has bloomed a couple of times, but usually all it usually does is all the leaves turn yellow, and then fall off. I’ve tried potting, taking it out of my sunroom, so it didn’t get so much humidity, more water, less water, and treating for bugs just in case. It will start making leaves and then they turn yellow and fall off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I need help with my baby, I went away on vacation for a month and came home and it started to lose leaves. It was recently purchased 8 months ago. And it has a crack in the root.. I'd like to send a picture. I've tried not to over water it. I had one previously for 20 years and did really well with it.

    I repotted my straggly desert rose and cut back the roots(February in central Florida) , used cinnamon on cuts, also cut back the stacks. I put it inside for 2 weeks spritzing it with water everyday. The leaves are turning yellow and falling off on stacks I didn't cut back. it's 2 weeks and I put it outside in sun, should I fully water it now?

    Are these obesums? Have you tried arabicums? Those have way a bigger caudex. Might i suggest root training while youre repotting.

    My desert rose is so stringy and long 😭 I need to prune it ,but I'm so unsure where exactly!
    I have cinnamon. Am I able to repot the cut of pieces to make new ones ? How do I do it ? In water ? In soil ? I'm so lost ,I had the rose since years now in FL ,grew perfectly. Now I'm in Michigan and I'm worried with rain ,snow less heat . Please help thank you 🙏😊

      You're in Michigan now so you will have to bring your Desert Rose indoors for winter as they can't be in temperatures under 55 degrees.

    really helpful video, I gave mine to much water and he is really unhappy right now...
    im a bit scared to cut so he is now drying in the sun. out of soil but I don't know which root or spot I need to remove...
    he also has a lot of mini roots what makes it more confusing, maybe you have an extra tip?

      o and do you need to cut the branches equal to the roots in case? or is the chance of survival increasing if you trim the branches , cinnamon and sunlight

    My desert rose that i grew from seed has grown straight up. I recently repotted it and cut the tap root off. I think i need to cut the top off but i thought i shouldn't do both at once cause that would be a lot of stress am i heading in the right direction or should i just start over?

    • @CarlDoesStuff
      @CarlDoesStuff  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do it all at the same time. Trim it, apply cinnamon, let it sit either in dry soil or in the shade for 5 days or so.

    • @CarlDoesStuff
      @CarlDoesStuff  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you found rot on a branch, there is probably rot in the roots. Take it out of the soil, check the roots, cut off rot. let dry out a few days before repotting

    What is in your potting soil mix?

    • @CarlDoesStuff
      @CarlDoesStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      For plants in 1 gallon pots and larger, 60% unstained mulch and 40% compost. I may add perlite or pine bark as well. I talk about at length in the video before this one if you are interested. I recently switched to this and for the level of rain I get it works well.

    • @doxtorbork5567
      @doxtorbork5567 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarlDoesStuff awesome! Thanks so much. I just watched that video. I will have to try that mix with a couple plants. I've been using a mix of perlite, sand, and shredded oak leaves. Its ok, but needs improvement.

    • @carlthomas9049
      @carlthomas9049 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@doxtorbork5567 As i am guessing you know, it really depends on how much water your plants get. I have found they can get plenty of water, you just need the roots to not sit in water. All my plants are outside in south Florida so in the late summer early fall they get rain every day. I have also found compost to be the best fert so I am hoping this works well.

    • @doxtorbork5567
      @doxtorbork5567 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlthomas9049 I'm in zone 5, and my plants are only outside during the summer. I use a south facing window, and blue/red led lights. My biggest challenges are over watering, and stagnant air. One of my plants is growing in 100% play sand. It got very stubby this year. Your videos are great btw!

    So do u plant the top u cut off?

    • @CarlDoesStuff
      @CarlDoesStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't because in my experience cuttings don't have good looking caudex when they grow.
