I cut all those thin roots, it helps make a fatter caudex.but this one looks decent. I like mine to look like a bonsai not leggy. But that’s about how to prune as well. U have pretty plants.

Nice video like always Maria people have to remember that you are in Florida…It all depends where you live. Over here in Southern California I use more of a perlite ..sand and a little bit of desert mix for my main soil.. our summers stay averaging around 90 and 100° so we need something that we can continuously water throughout the growing season …But also in the winter when our plants go dormant .. we can still water once in a while but have no worries about root rot.. I had several specimens that I had grown for about 10 to 15 years and one year was Curious about a couple of your soil mixes and how they would do out here in the West Coast I noticed all the plants that were repotted in your type of soil did not flower for the whole year and not only that I lost three very old plants that Had got some type of weird weird fungus and root rot these were very old specimens that were also giving seed pods before this incident. You have very nice plans but everybody needs to remember that it all depends on where you live and what your zone is if you’re on the West Coast remember you need something that drains fast like retarded super fast🤣🤙🏽🌺

I have had mine for a couple of years trying to figure out how to get a big trunk. Now that I have watched your video, I am ready to tackle this... this weekend. I subscribed to your channel so I am excited to see what else I can learn. Thank you!

Hi Maria. I'm both a "liker" and subscriber from Lake Charles, LA. I love your videos and your passion for growing desert roses. I have 5 that I purchased from a vendor off of Etsy that are between 6-9" in height. They've been in 6" wide terra cotta pots for about 3 weeks now. Three have regained their leaves and 2 have not. It may be too late in the year for them b/c they're about to go into dormancy anyway. It's the day after Halloween (Nov. 1, 2022) and we are still warm here (in the 80's during the day) so I've been keeping them in full sun the majority of the day. At first I was worried about their leaf loss, then I found out that it's normal after being uprooted, wrapped in newspaper and shipped for 3 or 4 days without sunlight. I've learned a lot from your videos and happy gardening! 🪴

Oh Maria, you remind me of myself, I talk to my babies when working with them and name them too! I have my one and only and first ever, her name, but of course....Rose! I have had her for many years but unfortunately, for many years now, she and all of my other plants have had to survive or die. Rose is a survivor. Recently I have been able to begin to work on my plants again and get my soul therapy back on! YAY! It's a whole new learning process again and yesterday was Rise's turn. I wish I would've seen the video BEFORE I did the transplant. Rose is still a small plant and I don't want her to get to large just yet but did upsize her pot for growth. I've always used a cactus potting mix though so though is what I used again and I am used to washing away old soil a pulling away old spider web roots to encourage new growth than just before I set it down into the pot, I sprinkle rooting hormone. I guess I am just creating extra work for myself but Rose seemed to enjoy it and looked like she was turning greener as we went along! LoL I do think perhaps I set her down inside a bit low/dirt to high up so think I will raise her up while she is still in shock mode. I did not realize you should leave so much of the root on top of the soil. What I have used over the years for fertilizer is miracle grows bloom boost which of course is mixed to a liquid but I found I also have some "Bayer Advanced Rose & Flower Care" granules which I believe is also used to help control pests, I can't recall what plants I used it on since it has been so long that I was not even able to lug the hose around to water! Lost many plants to drought and yes, even here in Florida! I live in the Tampa Bay area but for some reason, the little city I am in, we are in a protected trough with all the rain going to the noth, south and east of us. Do you have a nursery? I would love to visit you sometime! We have been meaning to get down to Sanibel anyway!

I have two 35 year old desert rose plant that belonged to my late husband. I replanted them after his death 12 years ago because they were in smaller pots. They're healthy, hard and bloom. But I feel they are lacking nutrients. I never knew these beautiful plants required repotting every now and then. 🤔👍🏽

Hi my friend not worry many of us didn’t how to care for back them it’s possible they’re dehydrated or root bound all you can do to improve they’re life time by applying Epsom salt unscented around the trunk about three tablespoons and water very lightly until the salt disappears only and this will help the plant to get green and strong you see the difference with them two weeks, at this point that’s all you can do best to used the Epsom salt unscented in the bigger of spring when you temperature get between 60 to 70 degrees very light water thank you Maria’s garden

Bob C Hi Bob the best way to get you cuadex large is to use the right soil mix 80% pine bark 20% peat moss also mix some good fertilizer like 14-4-14 slow release also you need to cut the leaves in half to have all the energy in the.cuudex don’t cut the flower or the tips of the stems just the leaves if you follow my instructions you cuadex we’ll get bigger and bigger thank you Maria’s garden 🐝🐛🐝🐜

Maria, I just ordered a desert rose from you so when it comes do I need to repot it? Also is that custom growing mix just for nurseries? I goggled it and found that it’s Jolly Gardener’s soil products but there was no place to order it. Also, where do you get those beautiful large pots from? Keep doing your thing with your videos because I love them. Very informative and I’m glad that you decided to help us get desert roses to look like yours. Are you saying SULFUR for that little plant that wasn’t doing good and if so how much do you use and how do we know if the plant needs SULFUR? Love ya Maria and hope you’re safe from the hurricane!

Hi, Maria. :) I’ve seen several videos where people bare root the desert rose and hang them to dry for several weeks (in some cases months) during the dormant period before repotting. They say this gets the plant thinking there’s a serious drought and it stores more energy during this period and grows more rapidly when repotted again. What are your thoughts on this practice?
Also I hope you and all your babies are safe with the storm rolling in.
    Cheers, from Texas.

Exactly! I dry mine out first. I also always cut off those tiny roots!! It helps the caudex. You notice most of her plants are leggy! Not bushy, I like a bushy desert rose, lists of branches. But that’s from doung a ‘hard’ prune!! Cutting just above the caudex. If u prune to high up, it can grow like a tree and leggy! Just saying. I dry my seedlings for a few days too. Every cut I use cinnamon to prevent fungus where the cut was made, u don’t need anything special from the store!!! Just cinnamon! You can see this plant, was pruned high! I would have pruned closer to caudex. Replant every year, and prune! See how her branches r very long, I prefer a bush, and it creates a lot of flowers when pruned for a bush. Look up pictures you’ll see what I mean, and the difference big time! I saw some in another video of hers where she pruned much shorter. Guess it depends on if u want it stemy, leggy or bushy.

Hello Maria. I saw that you mentioned that you are now shipping desert rosas to the US. Does that include that taller variety with less leaves like some of the ones you repotted in this video? I want one of those 😊🌹
