Manilow is brilliant. This piece evokes so much emotion, the composition combined with Barry’s lyrics and gorgeous voice truly make this one of the most beautiful songs of all time. It’s clear that Manilow is passionate and in love with the piano, especially towards the end. To hear his story, of how he was discovered, and to know he never even thought he had a good voice is amazing. His voice is one of Gods gifts to us all, and I’m discovering that he is also truly a prodigy of composition. He took Chopin and remastered it for this song, Amazing. All I can say is BRAVO Barry! Thank you! We saw Manilow in concert in Nashville this past Fri, Jan 20 2023. My husband & I were brought to tears twice at just the sheer beauty of Manilow and his music. We’ve been to many concerts, and this was our second time to see Manilow. Seeing Manilow this past time was the best concert I’ve ever attended. He was absolutely fantastic. Halfway through, my husband and I realized we were watching a performer who was just a few months short of 80 years old! His music is timeless and Barry moves and sings like a twenty year old. The most moving moment was when he sat at the piano and played “Mandy,” which eventually meshed into “Could it be magic.” Manilow sang beside a video of himself performing Magic just as he began his career. I was moved to tears. Barry Manilow-if you read this please know that I’m so grateful for the lifetime of beautiful music you’ve given me personally and so many others! God gave you a wonderful gift and I appreciate so much your sharing it!
Keep on going Barry, I have been a fan of yours going back to the beginning. I am so sorry I have never seen you perform live, but it is wonderful to have videos of you performing. God bless you, and thank you for sharing your talent with the world. You are one of a kind.
I got to back-up sing for him in San Francisco when he assembled a choir for the song "One Voice." My mom was a greeter at the amplitheater. She was so proud of me back then.
I always wanted to be a background singer that must have been the thrill of a lifetime if you are a Barry manilow fan. I love Barry but this is my favorite song out of all of them! When I hear it I get goosebumps, chills, and the hair stands up on my arms. I love this version that was live because it's slightly different than the original studio version!
Here is where I got hooked into this song, because the beginning where we get to see your classical pianist talent, I just was spell-bound and just kept playing it. You were only 32 and I WAS 29 and I fell for you music so fast, I couldn't wait until the next song was out. Your voice was so pure in this video. Thank you and Adrieene for sharing this with us. I love to watch you play the piano. It is so fascinating.................Love ya, Barry............Betsy Basile
I have loved this song ever since it came out when I was 13. Such a haunting and romantic song. The vocals in the background are amazing, Manilow is a true musical genius!
That's the perfect way to put it, haunting and romantic, it's so moving...I've always loved this song he really was able to match the emotion (or magic, should I say) in Chopin's prelude somehow...
I love it! Only problem is that now everytime i play Chopin's 20th prelude, everyone things i'm playing could it be magic. I got really confused when the chords in the song went to a major chord, making it different from the original piece. Chopin would hate this but he is not alive anymore so cant complain :). I also love how when he starts singing, it doesnt change to some 4 chord pop song but stays an interesting well written variated piece of music and how he says its originally from chopin and doesnt claim it to be all his. A truly Humble and amazing musician.
I played classical piano as a kid, in the 70s. I begged my piano teacher to help me with Chopin's prelude, because of this song.. Hes always an inspiration for a young piano player and music lover.
Just showed this to my daughter who is a vocal performance major in college. They have been studying the Chopin prelude and I wanted her to listen to this genius. It gives me chills ❤
I remember hearing this song when it came out back in 1975 I was in sixth grade and I had it on 45 RPM and I thought that it was absolutely rapturous. The way it began with the classical piece and slowly built into that incredible crescendo was so much intensity just held so much passion I didn't understand it then but I haven't listened to this song in decades. Listening to it now I finally realize What it was I was hearing, he had compressed the intensity and passion of lovemaking into a 6-minute song. No wonder I was so swept away. It's incredibly powerful without being vulgar. In fact it's just the opposite, It's beautiful.
Barry was the first artist that moved me. I was 8 years old 1975. And he's one of the few artists that is even better live. Truly genuine and amazing performer.

For many years I have loved this Chopin Prelude and was interested to see Barry Manilow's interpretation, which is actually rather sexy. I thought it sad when he said "It's the Chopin Prelude No. 22 - if anybody cares" - well I care, Barry, and you did a great job. He was a rather unusual looking man when he was this age.
Sexy indeed. And it was the unusual look that captivated me: prominent nose, big sloe eyes, ever so slight lisp, and that hair! Yum. His voice like a Siren, it charmed me entirely. And yes, Barry, we care about Chopin. He says C minor, but this particular prelude was No. 20.
I loved this song as a kid and Jump Shout Knock yourself out (whatever the name of that was lol. Boogie woogie something) I had a little crush on Barry, I liked his face and his eyes 😍
I'd be proud. I *am* proud. I think that the "if anybody cares" bit is likely related to the producers of this show discouraging Barry from even mentioning Chopin.
I found him very attractive when he was younger, not conveniently good looking but he definitely had that something but I don't go for 'handsome' men anyway, too boring and uninteresting.
Chopin is my favorite classical composer. I’ve been playing piano since I was seven and have learned to play many pieces by Chopin. I remember when I was learning this piece my piano teacher commented on Barry Manilow’s version and he said that he didn’t like it when pop musicians adapted classical pieces. But I think that Manilow did a great job here and if anything, this song helped bring Chopin’s music to many people who might not otherwise be very familiar with it.
I always hated fuddy duddy instructors. Mine had a ruler that she'd say our hands with. Toughened me up for when I went into the Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps back in 1980.
Some people are immortal and should be carved in stone for all eternity. Barry is one of these people. He has brought so much happiness to so many people..
@Barrymanilow- I will never ever stop being a fan. My one wish is that I could sing Could It Be Magic with you. This song got me through my breast cancer treatment. 💕

you can see the melancholy in his eyes and reflects further on the way he sings it. Maybe thats the vibe we are missing with the modern singers now. A sad lyric doesnt necessarily convert to an emotional connection without the authentic feelings that should have been involved with in the first place

I’m a dyed in the wool jazz/funk/soul/R&B junkie but 2:32-2:57 is such a stunningly beautiful and shamelessly romantic interlude. No matter what you think of the man, we would all be grateful to have 10% of his musical talent.
Listening to this is like heaven on Earth it's from when I was a teenager and I am so glad to hear this amazing live version and Happy it was preserved. I never saw that show probably because I didn't stay up late back then. This version of the song gives me chills, just like the studio version does but it's slightly different ....I love it
Fell in love for the first time with the little blond-haired girl across the street as a boy in the mid 1970's. This song always makes me think of her. I wonder where she is now.
I had no idea how musically gifted Barry Manilow is. This composition is quite remarkable. I was drawn to his music when I was younger whenever I heard it. I am going to have check out his music a little more closely.
Live.....Live!!! C'mon man!! He is doing this live and flawless! People gave this guy way too hard of a time- as a kid I thought he was brilliant! What a performer...
I was too cool to like Barry Manilow back in the 70’s. I’ve heard this song many times, but only recently really listened to it. After living most of a lifetime of love, loss, laughter and pain this song brings out such deep feelings I didn’t have when I was young. It brings me to tears. The ultimate love song. Barry is incredibly talented.
Totally agree, growing up in the 70’s Mr Manilow was for old people, I guess now I’m old I can see and appreciate what a talented song writer and singer he is. And I always secretly sung along to his songs 🤫
One of the classics of the 20th century. And Chopin would have loved it. Thank you, Barry Manilow. You could have been a great concert pianist - but you chose to give us songs instead. As your grandfather said, in his ?Russian accent - when you were three years old - : “Sing it, Barry, sing it!”
This video Barry is one of my favorites again since I began watching it today. I love your voice in this one. The Chopin Prelude in C Minor always pulls me in. You and Adrienne did it so well . Barry, 1975, we were both so young then and I love your hair and sparkly pink sweater. love, Betsy
My thoughts, exactly, so when I see comments that say, "I hate this", or other ignorant comments in this section, like, "Chopin would (again) _hate_ this", it is not only confusing, but shows how little humans have advance as a race of beings.
All i know is I have loved this song since it was released almost 50 years ago in middle school it sounds just as good now as it did then some beautiful music
I bought the 45, same age, and listened to it all summer. I remembered it yesterday, added to Spotify and it was on repeat all day at work. Absolutely beautiful song.

The passion expressed in this piece is earth moving. So much love, need and want married beautifully together. I miss these sentiments in modern songs. Masterpiece.
I'm soon to be a 56 year-old (in US years:) I LOVE this innocent and sweet pre-empt to one of King Manilow's most iconic songs. I was a teen then, and feel like one when listening to this song.
Imagine telling your girlfriend in 1975, "Hey, I got TV show tickets for tonight, wanna go?" And she's hoping it's for Johnny Carson. But no, you tell her, it's for something called Midnight Special. And she's like, whatever, OK. So you schlep out to Burbank, and file in to the NBC studio. Then, 20 feet from you, is Barry Manilow. 4 backup singers. A string section. An awesome drummer. And other LA studio gig musicians. And then you hear this performance for the first time, washing over you and through you.
What else is there to say about this, really? It's a perfect performance. So damn beautiful. The kind of song that makes me feel like I've got a reason to live. Really hard not to just put this on loop/repeat all day - or ad infinitum, even. All Manilow doubters should be directed here - once they see/hear this, they'll understand.
6 Years later and your video is still here! Great song!

An absolutely beautiful and haunting song
Hi how are you doing?
I appreciate your great love and support you show me as a special fan of mine🌹🌹. I hope you won't stop listening to our music, and thanks for your sincere
Compliment and love towards our music 💞🖤 may god bless you guy. Have you been to any of the show?
He is simply magic
Keep on going Barry, I have been a fan of yours going back to the beginning. I am so sorry I have never seen you perform live, but it is wonderful to have videos of you performing. God bless you, and thank you for sharing your talent with the world. You are one of a kind.
I got to back-up sing for him in San Francisco when he assembled a choir for the song "One Voice." My mom was a greeter at the amplitheater. She was so proud of me back then.
One Voice was an EXCELLENT album!!!
Wow...such a great song. His voice and the voice of the backup singers are awesome. And of course that melody is out of this world.
I love that song!
Had me at "Sweet Melissa, angel of my lifetime" - what a love songwriter..
It is so fascinating.................Love ya, Barry............Betsy Basile
and here's the part where I couldn't agree with you more it's tough to describe how brilliant this song is launching his career '
I wonder back then if these people in the audience realized what they were witnessing....LEGEND!!
I have loved this song ever since it came out when I was 13. Such a haunting and romantic song. The vocals in the background are amazing, Manilow is a true musical genius!
And the violins.... And Barry's piano playing.... The song is like a dream and Barry is like an angel
That's the perfect way to put it, haunting and romantic, it's so moving...I've always loved this song he really was able to match the emotion (or magic, should I say) in Chopin's prelude somehow...
same same same
One of the best songs ever written
Thanks for your kind, elaborate and informative response. Have a great week.
@@marcjacobs5988 you too :)
I still love it 😀
Brilliant piece. Donna Summer does a fabulous job with it too, but Manilow’s original is deeply moving too.
I played classical piano as a kid, in the 70s. I begged my piano teacher to help me with Chopin's prelude, because of this song.. Hes always an inspiration for a young piano player and music lover.
This live version is perfection that brings me to tears each time. Absolute favorite Manilow song even after all these years.
The Midnight Special brought us many 10/10 live versions. Here's one!
Just showed this to my daughter who is a vocal performance major in college. They have been studying the Chopin prelude and I wanted her to listen to this genius.
It gives me chills ❤
To this day, in my opinion, it’s the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. It absolutely transports me to a spiritual place.
Same here. I was 7
My cousin took me to his concert in NY when I was about 15.... it was amazing.... I'm a year older than you...born in '67.
@@chordsofgratitude2073 That’s great. I wish I had gone to see him back in the late 70’s early 80’s.
Same age. Just getting back into hearing him. Saw he has a live show and going to look into tickets.
Barry is a very underrated artist.
Barry sure had some chops on vocals and piano. A gifted songwriter too. Thanks for all the music Barry, you're an inspiration man.
indeed...he makes it look as easy as breathing...truly gifted man
He writes the songs that make the whole world sing

I hope you have a wonderful day Chris! ❤️
He looks more unusual now, with all of his surgeries.
Bugs Bunny done the same thing and we loved it! (Brought classical music to the public)
I always hated fuddy duddy instructors. Mine had a ruler that she'd say our hands with. Toughened me up for when I went into the Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps back in 1980.
He's been my favorite since I was 9. N born in 1965. He was it. N look at him he was just different n God sent him to us. He is so special. Xoxo
He's Beautiful 😍
I’ve had the pleasure to see Barry Manilow twice in New York City. He was a master performer…
Back when music was real music
Some people are immortal and should be carved in stone for all eternity.
Barry is one of these people. He has brought so much happiness to so many people..
Imagine how talented he is to take Chopins piece and turn it into the most beautiful love song ever made!
@@heavnnnsent Yes!!!
The melody is hauntingly beautiful! One of my favorites! Magic!
@Barrymanilow- I will never ever stop being a fan. My one wish is that I could sing Could It Be Magic with you. This song got me through my breast cancer treatment. 💕
I remember seeing this show, the piano burst into flames by the end of it….
Beautiful song. And nobody sings this song like Barry. ❤
One of the greatest love songs ever written!
This is high quality music. Nobody does it nowadays.
The kind of song that makes you yearn for the simpler times when songs were sooooo much more beautiful and meaningful.....Wish I can turn back time....The world now ain't much fun to live in anymore....
I hear this and I am 18 again😢 I used to play this in my dorm room so much my roommate choreographed a dance to it. Sweet memories… and it’s still just as beautiful as it was back then❤
Hello Cheryl,

Barry..... I care about The Prelude by Frederic Chopin in C Minor. We get to see you play the piano with your Classical Style and then hear the beautiful song that goes with the prelude. You and I were so young then, it reminds me of many things from the 70's. Not all good for me anyway.love you Barry, and Adrienne for giving us this video.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Betsy Basile
you can see the melancholy in his eyes and reflects further on the way he sings it. Maybe thats the vibe we are missing with the modern singers now. A sad lyric doesnt necessarily convert to an emotional connection without the authentic feelings that should have been involved with in the first place
I've always wanted to know who inspired this song, truly...
One of his best compositions! The melody the lyrics and of course the drama of using Chopin! Barry the Genius!
you think 🤔
Hello Marie,
how're you doing,
Your comment caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!❤️
I’m a dyed in the wool jazz/funk/soul/R&B junkie but 2:32-2:57 is such a stunningly beautiful and shamelessly romantic interlude. No matter what you think of the man, we would all be grateful to have 10% of his musical talent.
Absolutely! Badasses don't have to have a certain look or sound. They are just badasses!
You're so very right!
Did you ever hear his '2:00am Paradise Cafe' LP?
WELL SAID MAN--- THE GUY IS A MUSICAL GENIUS AND THIS SONG WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS ONE OF THE GREATS
Listening to this is like heaven on Earth it's from when I was a teenager and I am so glad to hear this amazing live version and Happy it was preserved. I never saw that show probably because I didn't stay up late back then. This version of the song gives me chills, just like the studio version does but it's slightly different ....I love it
Back when music has real magic...
Barry is very gifted, and humble. Sadly his early albums weren't recorded the best - making such live performances of the time all the more treasured.
Live.....Live!!! C'mon man!! He is doing this live and flawless! People gave this guy way too hard of a time- as a kid I thought he was brilliant! What a performer...
His music moves me emotionally like no other musician.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Amazing talent.
He was so underrated. what a awesome great musician. I remember when I was young his voice used to mesmerize me❤❤
He is so humble! He was inspired by Chopin, but create a complete new melody. And he almost seems to apologise for this.
This video Barry is one of my favorites again since I began watching it today. I love your voice in this one. The Chopin Prelude in C Minor always pulls me in. You and Adrienne did it so well . Barry, 1975, we were both so young then and I love your hair and sparkly pink sweater. love, Betsy
Holy crap. This gave me chills, for real.
what a voice...
how can you not love Barry Manilow? it goes against logic! Could it be magic? yes! that's why we're fans!

My absolute favorite 💓
I bought the 45, same age, and listened to it all summer. I remembered it yesterday, added to Spotify and it was on repeat all day at work. Absolutely beautiful song.
My gosh! Has it been 50 years already???! It seems like only yesterday… the yesterday that’s never left us. Thank you, Barry, for making the world a better place with your music.
He was from my generation and the older I get the more I appreciate him. Love him !!! ❤️❤️❤️

I loved this song as a teen and appreciate it now. He sings with passion….
A masterpiece!!
The passion expressed in this piece is earth moving. So much love, need and want married beautifully together. I miss these sentiments in modern songs. Masterpiece.
I'm soon to be a 56 year-old (in US years:)
I LOVE this innocent and sweet pre-empt to one of King Manilow's most iconic songs.
I was a teen then, and feel like one when listening to this song.
What a masterpiece!
What a great story! I hope it’s true 🫠
Great story..love it
What else is there to say about this, really? It's a perfect performance. So damn beautiful. The kind of song that makes me feel like I've got a reason to live. Really hard not to just put this on loop/repeat all day - or ad infinitum, even. All Manilow doubters should be directed here - once they see/hear this, they'll understand.
