You should talk to the #1 5 cylinder MAN @irozmotorsport . Hank Iroz. They have the Syvecs standalone ECU. Don't know if that would be an option or not...but just a thought. Good luck!
Hey dude. The other plug by the ECU plug is most likely to be your ABS pump plug. Just check if you already have the pump but I reckon it's worth a try. Peace🙌

you'd save time soldering if you switched to butt connectors. vw/audi doesnt use solder for repairs anymore as butt connectors are much more consistent

of course it wouldn't start with another ECU because the ECU communicates with the immo (key/steering ECU) and also with automatic transmission ECU, regardless of the canbus, these 3 components exchange messages separately from canbus. It needs to be paired with the other 2 working components on the car to be able to start the engine.
@BackYardBoys the worst wire restoration on cars is by soldering. Soldering a wire will cause it break before or after the solder joint. The correct way is to user wire clampers. When engine is running it is moving back and forth in engine bay, all this movement will cause the wire to snap near the soldering joint. This is why all the electric harness on cars is not soldered by factory. As for swapping ecu, you need to pair it with the car keys, otherwise it will trigger the immobilizer and injection won’t work. Another option is immo off (works on older models i think) anyway, keep up good work!

You can buy a set of ecu with key/ignition immobilizer used... to avoid programming.

Immobilizer is your issue. youll need the same box code ecu for you to even have a chance at starting it

Was testing my luck! Haha I ordered ecu by vin number so there was a 01% of it working without programming 😂
