Shhhh..... | Gazzew Bobagum Silent Linear Switch Review

  • Hey everyone! Today we're going to be looking at the Gazzew Bobagum Silent Linear switch. This review is for the 52g variant, but in the video I make some modifications including a spring swap.
    Overall I think this is an excellent addition to the market if you're looking for a quite mechanical switch without sacrificing your wallet or feel. After some tuning, these are quickly becoming one of my favourite switches to type on.
    All tests were done in the same keyboard, my aluminum KBDFans 60%, with an aluminum plate, and recorded with a Maono AU-A04 cardioid condenser microhpone.
    SWITCHES USED IN THIS VIDEO:
    Gazzew Bobagum 52g
    Gateron Yellow
    Glorious Panda
    Seal Linear by Minterly

    Tried the 62g here with opaque top. 3 person other than me also tried typing on it as well.
    All their response was... weird switches.
    Person A, it was not bad, but it is weird. The switch kinda offer you two typing modes. Do not bottom out, or must bottom out. Nothing in between.
    There's no pressure diagram we can found on the internet to tell the curve but, the spring is progressively stronger as you near bottom out.
    Typing without bottoming out will introduce bouncy sensation, as if typing on a membrane keyboard or a pillow.
    The progressive resistance from the spring will help you to achieve that.
    Do not get it wrong, it is not as bad as typing on a cheap membrane keyboard. This speaks quality.
    If you managed to bottom out tho, it has nice sensation. Person A used to use Gateron Silent Black Ink.
    He still prefer his Silent Blacks due to the linear spring.
    Person B tried it on DOTA 2, he said, the switch messed up my timing, definitely horrible for gaming experience. The press feeling however, is nice.
    Also, it is too silent to my liking. So i didn't have the necessary sound feedback when pressing a button. He used to use Cherry MX red.
    Person C said, weird switch overall, i prefer the previous one. Previously, were Outemu Browns.
    Myself agreed with the person A. The more i used myself to the 'weird' curve, the more i like it.
    Yeah, the switch definitely a bit scratchy, not much when it were new, but getting pronounced the more i use, i think.
    The spring is a bit squeaky on some switches. Pretty much as you described. But the scratchiness is still better than cheaper switch; like 'Gateron Yellow' KS-9 model.
    The squeaky-ness also not as bad as let's say 'Content Pink' switch i have.
    Talking about silent switch, i also tried 'Outemu Silent Yellow' and 'Kailh Silent Pink'.
    The Kailh silent pink is very light and i think has no squeaky spring, but also has pronounced scratch, but not as loud. I think mainly from the railing. I used it for my spacebar. This was my first favorite silent switch.
    Outemu Silent Yellow is a budget silent switch. Do not expect too much on the build quality, but if someone need a light silent linear+ cheap that's one way to go. The weight is about the same as other yellow switches. Tad lighter than Gateron Yellow i think. I'm not fond with the sound.
    My friend Gateron Silent Black probably the best overall tho idk what mod he used.
    Bonus, person X opinion,
    actually the seller who sold me the Bobagum. I got the switch from him at discounted price, about 30% cheaper for a bundle of 90s.
    "Why you sell the switch?"
    "Too silent"
    Basically 3/5 person still prefer non silent switches.

    I want to purchase the Gazzew Bobagum Silent Linear switches, but I joined the customized keyboard game too late. Most vendors are sold out, and only have the 68g switches. I would be okay with at most, 62g, to start off. After watching your review, I agree with you about the key strokes. I am going to order the 68g. Thank you!

    Using Silent Alpacas V2 in a KBDFans 65%. Really liking the 62G springs for gaming; quick and light key presses. Waiting on some Gazzew Bobagum 62G. Might also have a go at changing the springs to something longer with a similar or slightly lower weight. Great review!

    Always hate when people do comparisons with other switches and press hard af on the other switches, but light af on the silent ones to make it sound even less. Unrealistically light. Almost too light to the point where it should not be allowed to be called a press.

      @@PatrickRennie I don't think it's to that extent. I have the gat yellow, boba u4 (silent) and the u4t (thock) and it's represented fairly accurate. It does look like you're not bottoming out as much, but that might be due to the force curve of the boba switches. It is interesting the 70g tx springs are louder than the bobagum springs at the ending comparison. 3:03 comparison sounds accurate.

  • @ithehappy1

    How is the WASD movement? When you hold down the keys for long do they feel weird? I mostly play fps and do counter strafing, do the keys feel weird or get caught during sudden key press when suddenly changing direction in-game?

    Thank you for your review
    I actually bought 52g as well and have been making too many mistakes - although I got used to the 52g, I still want to rest my fingers and not register a key
    I was going to buy TX springs to change the weight - I wanted to get the long ones because I prefer harder initial press with faster bottom down, but was thinking maybe the normal TX might be better as the stock is the same mm as the normal
    you kinda help me decide - I will probably get long TX 67g or 65g
    Could you give me an update on how they are now? do you use them or did you opt out from them? I am thinking about buying silent u4's as well at 62g (thinking less g might be better as it is more tactile anyways) - do you like silents? idk if it's just me but I feel like the travel distance feels less with silent switches? or maybe is it because of the spring length/weight?

    • @PatrickRennie
      @PatrickRennie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're not currently in a board right now, but it's my plan to put them in a keyboard that I will bring to work once I'm back in an office setting. Still happy with my mods though!

      Did the 16mm long spring eliminate that accidental activation and perhaps smooshy feel/shorter travel distance?
      And how do you find the 70g weight?
      I'm thinking about getting either 65g or 67g...but idk if weight will fix accidental activation when resting your fingers?

    • @PatrickRennie
      @PatrickRennie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@axiosw0774 Spring length didn't change activation in my experience, but it did make the silent switch feel less 'mushy'.
      Spring weight is super subjective so I can't really speak to your experience, but my preference is 67g-70g and I don't have any issues accidentally actuating the switch with that weight range. Hope that helps!

      @DeltaInsanity 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PatrickRennie isn't gat reds' 45g the actuation force? And the bobagums' spring weight indicates the bottom out force? Which if that's the case, 52g bobagums probably actuate with less than 45g force, and gat reds most likely take more than 52g to bottom out.
