🐿️It has finally come time to release Pine & Oak, our two squirrels. These past few months have been such much fun to watch them grow. We knew this day would come & we feel confident they are ready to get back to their roots. We just hope they feel the same way.

I'm happy to see the squirrels take of on their own. The tractors cleaned up nicely. Ladly's beautiful eyes in the camera was a treat. She's really growing, and becoming a real farm hand. Thanks for another great episode!
I knew a tree service and they had a lot of squirrels that were left behind by the mother. I took one on myself. Got a kitten bottle and formula and it wasn’t long and he cried when hungry and nursed no problem. Had to give him away when I moved and they were let out to the wild. They do grow so fast. Yall are amazing
I caught a baby squirrel when I was a teenager and when it got old enough, we let him go. For the first couple of days, he would come back. But then the taste of freedom took over. 😢
He was so much fun. My whole family enjoyed him.

Squirrel's make excellent pets, they do become attached but eventually squirrels will adapt to the outdoors.

i just released 3 a few weeks ago. They were all boys. Found them in my yard when they were little pinkies...only a couple days old. Storm knocked them out of the tree. But all are still alive and they come say hi to me everyday and i feed them. Fun experience

Congrats to the winners! I was late to the party and was thinking around 30-35 lbs. Then when you both went higher and felt confident I started thinking around 70 lbs but then thought 69 lbs. You believe me right?! Actually, I was in the 55 lb area. But 200 Lbs wow! Squirrelly, nutty squirrels? That last treat probably made them a bit corny too. I'm going back in my corner now.

What a fun episode this was. Jim looked like he had a hard time leaving those squirrels behind. I was wondering if he was going to set up a tent to keep an eye on them. And while I'm thinking of raising youngsters to go out on their own someday, Happy Mother's Day, Lydia!

So cute! Back in the '80s there was a female security guard that did foot patrol around the building I worked in. She had tamed a couple of squirrels to come to her for treats. One morning I was walking in to work and the squirrel was on the ground between me and the door. I made the mistake of talking to it. It immediately ran to me, then climbed up my legs panty hose to get to my shoulders. You never heard such screaming, me - not the squirrel. lol Thanks for the sweet memory!
I was so close at 71lbs. I do fishing tournaments and tried to strategically calculate by volume weight. However, if I wasn’t so far away in Wyoming, I would be adding another Ford to the fleet!!

Squirrels are the best, I used to hold peanuts in my teeth and they'd take them. Was also outside one time reading a magazine and feeding the ground squirrels peanuts and I guess one of them got tired of waiting for me to feed it and jumped into my lap and scared the hell out of me.
They need some kind of walkway from the tree out to the platform on their house. I don't know how they are supposed to cling to that slippery house surface.
When I was a kid in the mid sixties we found 2 baby squirrels when trimming a large maple tree hanging over the house. We raised them much like you did here. Whenever we fed them we clicked those little metal clickers. After a year we let them loose and whenever we clicked the clickers they would come racing to us and run up our leg and sit on our shoulders. We always had peanuts whenever we did this. They would come to the clicker for a couple of years until by the third year we never saw them again.
The squirrels are cute. It is nice to see them in their natural environment. Good job getting them ready to survive.

Good morning Lydia and Jim. It was nice seeing y'all this morning and sweet little Ladly Rue. She is growning so quickly and is certainly quite the little helper around the property. I can relate you the feelings you experienced on release day as I too have rescued many animals over the years that released them. It's bittersweet and glorious at the same time. I was glad I got as close as I did on my weight guess - I think I guessed 71.7 pounds so that is a lot closer than I usually am 🙂 Selling the tractors was a good idea although I understand why Jim struggled with ol blue. I hope the rain diminishes so you can get to your projects outdoors. Jenna and Ted will be contacting you two to consult on a dry pour project, likely has already. Have a great week my cajun friends. I’m not sure how the squirrels in your area are but up here in New Jersey squirrels are destructive. They chew on our garbage cans, the siding, dig up gardens and have a real bad habit of getting in the engine area of our cars and chew on wires and hoses which ends up being costly for us!

In the future, hinge a side top or bottom wall so it's easy to clean. Good move on letting them be Squirrels. Read the other day that Squirrels can't fall and reach terminal velocity. Whether true or not i can't say but I hope it is.,.

Nice work with the squirrels. They should be fine. I know it's hard to let them go but it's the right thing. There is a fox squirrel family in the trees behind my mama's house that I'm fond of. We don't interact but they set off the cameras from time to time which always makes me smile. I remember both of those models of tractor when I worked in tobacco as a teenager. Good memories. I know it's hard letting them go but a tractor sitting idle is a terrible thing. Ladly is growing up so fast. Y'all are giving her a wonderful life.

I think I probably would have put that squirrel bed in that squirrel box you made. And I hope you do an update ? My son rescued three baby squirrels that fell out of a tree he had them until they died of old age for 8 years. Hey tried many times to release them. They never wanted to leave him.

You should right the height off the ground of the squirrel house on the side and measure it every year to see how much the tree grows
