I call it "Get-there-itis" and it's definitely one of my bigger faults. On a motorbike, sometimes I'd go fast and sometimes slow, I always enjoyed the bike. But the car, it's a necessity, driving is essential and boring and I don't want to waste time traveling. There was a journey I did on my bike many years ago, 99 miles in 55 and a bit minutes, and yet in summer days I rode the country lanes going home from work, almost doubling the journey time.
Mark Twain said "Worrying is like paying a debt you don't owe."
Having survived 2 events that humans don't normally survive, it's obvious to me worrying would have harmed me.
Heart disease? The ticker defect I have is very different to the usual idea of 'heart disease'. And it has direct effect on my sleep, I have sleep apnea (can be spelled apnoea), described as low blood oxygen while I sleep. I'm told the oxygen level plunges deep into the danger zone for a short time and then returns to 'normal', this happens over a very short time, but again and again. This doesn't worry me in the slightest, I know I'm going to die at the right time. However it worries the crap out of the respiratory specialist at the heart hospital. So she absolutely insists I wear a CPAP machine when I sleep. So I put this mask on and air gets pumped on my face, but I can't (so far) get to sleep, it's too intrusive. And the ritual goes like this; get ready for bed, put the mask on lie down, switch the machine on and try to relax, do this for a hour or so. Take off the mask, switch off the machine and go to sleep within minutes
Mark Twain also said "Politicians are like diapers, and must be changed frequently for exactly the same reason!" 🤣

I used to be a perfectionist and over think things I was working on. I soon realised it was making me miserable and stealing the joy of making things. Now I go head first into projects, forget the what ifs and being perfect and now I enjoy building stuff, end up doing a better job and creating something superior to my original plans.

Thanks Clay I’m a person that suffered a traumatic brain injury from a mountain bike accident 4 1/2 years ago. My journey has been about accepting what I can now do. Exercise is key for me as I’m trying to grow more neurones and trying to start my journey on rope flow. I have done various diets you have mentioned and lost weight very interesting about the heart. What do you think of fasting? Well thanks for sharing.

Fasting has a place but over all the main driver for good health is a nutritional-dense diet, good sleep and daily exersise.

exercise and fitness has saved my life and has transformed me from something pathetic to something I can be proud of. The routine and physical transformation can do wonders for a lost man. Its a lesson/fractal in life; do hard things to grow and thrive from building muscles to building a business or community. Also making a choice to be positive in all situations can make the universe go your way, and finding the lesson or gain from bad situations can lesson the pain.
Thanks for the killer vid once again.

I have been getting out hiking for the last year. I can see so much improvement in my old injuries that i just might get a couple of hunting dogs again. Another goal is to be able to get in and out and sit comfortable in a kayak by age 60. Thats a year and half away.

You're right about the physical importance of getting out and doing something when you feel like total shit. Many moons ago I broke up with my long partner and felt the worst I've ever felt, all I was doing was laying face down in bed feeling like I didn't want to be here anymore. A mate of mine called me asking if I wanted to go for a hike up the hill, I said "nah I'm good". He then said, "bro I'm gonna be at yours in 20 min". So we went for a walk up the hill and damn man... It wasn't the magical be all and end all cure, but fuck it got me out of that bad place and helped me with that first step of pulling through and moving on.
(I should also say, to anyone who knows someone going through some shit, be that guy that called me and got me out of bed and out for a hike, he probably saved my life)
Also when you said we are all beautiful in our uniqueness is gold mate, real good yarns Clay.
Hope you're well, and congrats on the van.. I mean truck 😅

In Australia in the current social system, the big issue is Boys do not get time to share time with men, The only time young men share time with older men,( Wise men of the tribe) is when hunting and sitting by the fire after a hunt. Honestly, that is the only time Males can share and learn. ..................Social media is the teacher of values in these times.

I once had a job interview to go to Clay but on my way to get their "early" I was in such a panic I actually had a small stroke and I forgot who I was, where I was, what i was doing and even more scarily how to drive a flaming manual !!!!!!! Luckily I managed to pull the car over to the side of the road without any problems and stalled it. I sat there for which seemed an eternity (but was only about ten minutes) I thought maybe I should go to a police station. Where the hell was the station?? Was I wanted by police ????? I looked around and thought what an awesome car I was driving. I had just purchased a brand new Honda CRV. My memory eventually had returned when I saw a picture of a library card typed out in old type writer print in my mind which had my name on it and it all came flooding back much to my relief. I made it to the interview - the only one I had been late to in my life! I never got the job because someone already working there asked for a promotion and got it I later found out !!! No need to rush at all in the end.
Would love to see some of your carvings Clay as I am a wood carver. Gee we have similar traits. I used to get panic attacks in crowds or just going out of the house but this has now passed.
Funny how life turns out it never like I planned ...... I still worry heaps and am lucky to get two strait hours sleep. I'm going to try your technique and see how it goes. I know if I think of something I have to get up and write it down so I don't forget !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah mate, I've got one I'll share.
One must be very careful trying to catch orange lights.
I had a near miss in Aust one day. It was at a set of lights out of town on a two-lane highway with low density traffic and great open surroundings vision and like your example I was running late for work. Of course, we're talking full highway speeds. The lights ahead went orange and naturally given the distance, speed and timing of lights I thought "I can do this", so I powered up a bit... thinking the cars in front would go through the intersection as normal. But NO, the first car must have really stood on their brakes the moment the lights went orange leaving me approaching their rear end at speed with decent momentum to deal with (not a bike). Luckily, I drive with situational awareness of traffic around me and I knew the only reasonable non-crash option was to quickly swerve left into the other (clear) lane and continue through on the orange. If that lane was not clear it would have left bad options. These sorts of things happen in the blink of an eye, so reactions have to be quick and importantly correct.
    So, three lessons.
    1. Always be aware of the traffic around you and their positions. This has also saved me on other occasions!
    2. Don't be so keen to get through on orange lights.
    3. People don't always do what you expect them to do so it adds another dimension to anticipating other drivers.
Being late for work has cost me a lot in life, including a loss of license. Employers are not worth it most of the time. They don't pay the tickets, for the injuries or for wear and tear on the vehicle or have to deal with the pains of physical recovery (or even death). The best option is to leave earlier.

How is Julie? Food is an individual thing. My Mum has a bad heart. I take statns to keep my blood pressure down then there is Dad.... 80.5 Healthy 85kg, No Asthma, no heart or eye issues, married 57 years. Another question, I have a thing now I dont get angry or worry, sleep is all over the place. All since my piturity was removed. Steroids have made me bigger only eat when hungry. So that's what's what's feed up with me. Food in moderation is good, all food. Like you said and I do now, is we are here for a good time not a long time. Enjoy your food and take statins, etc etc. A fistfull of food on your plate is a good thing..... If we had a bigger income we would have a lot more good food but with one income we buy what we can & what we grow. Two pigs are fat enough now to become freezer food. Maybe I'm a lost cause now, but I feel OK where I am... Dr is happy too. The last BP was 120/80 so something is working, Clay..... Will chat to you about your live streams too....

bro, during my time in the army and working amongst the family, I was known as the planner, I planned everything, thought of all the angles of a project and catered for all possible glitches and possible work round's to achieve the goal. I would work with the team over the creation of the 'plan', at every aspect and once I issued the plan, brief everyone of their tasks and responsibilities and timings, I let it all go bro ... now its out of my hands and now the team or whanau have it. What whanau and work colleagues didn't realize was that for me I got pleasure in the planning process but once it got put into action, it wasn't mine anymore.

I'm learning that my thoughts don't necessarily correlate with reality.
I'm teaching myself to recognise when a thought arises that is incongruent with what actually is.
Consequently, I surrender any loyalty that I may have had to that thought.
Thoughts that have no connection to what is actually happening are dangerous.

Great video Clay. Im going to be blunt; you sir have undiagnosed ADHD. Its was obvious to me in the first 4 minutes. Perfectionist, shocking time management (almost non existant i bet), shocking patience, sleep issues specifically about how others perceive you, the over eating...i bet you dont eat for most of the day until you're out of control hungry then go hard...I could go on; you're ticking all of the boxes. I display the exact same traits as you at 35yo and after a ton of research I truely believe its ADHD,... would you say you've severely struggled with certain things in your life that others have found seriously easy/basic?
