A few years back I helped a mate photograph a Camp Quality day for young kids with cancer. Well shit; what a sobering day that was.... I remember thinking how often we experience something that makes us think how grateful we should be for actually being here. But usually after a few weeks it wears off. But that day stays with me to this day. Seeing really young kids missing limbs etc really made me wonder why such shit things happen to those poor kids. Sure they were positive and upbeat, but man, it was heartbreaking. At the start of the day they told my mate and I to take as many pics as possible of one child because they weren't sure how long she would be with us... She was about 9... That day still affects me and makes me grateful to have a pulse....

That is a terrible massive loss for you. I have the best way to give up my addictions is to use my body and start doing something phyical. Maybe take up dancing or biking or running. Join NA or AA and get support or just join a group of positive healthy people doing healthy things. I am very sorry you lost your daughter.

    Another cool vid Clay,
My mother was a nurse and allways told us as kids when we moaned about having a cold or some other minor ailment, that we were lucky to have our good health and to stop moaning lol.
I remember she told us about an old man who came to the hospital who had not changed his cloths for a long time , his hair was growing through his socks, they had to cut the socks off, another old guy had grass growing between his toes, The nurses /doctors/cops/firfighters etc see the other side of humanity that most of us never see,, So like you say, we should be grateful for what we have,, all the best, and we hope you get back to full steam soon.👍

Worked at Ngahwatu Stoke, back in the 1970s. Ended up on the nursing side of things. Gee that was an eye opener for a teenager. Huntingtons, Syphilis, dementia, people born with mental and physical defects. You name it. What happened to the mental institutions?
I felt so fortunate after that. Unknowingly met my wife to be there.
    She was cooking.
I went and joined the forest service culling. That gave me time for reflection and all through out my life I often think how lucky I was being born especially in New Zealand.
50 years marriage in May. Been physically wounded, broken, getting replacement parts. So has my wife. ACC had us destitute. But together we worked through it.
So so grateful for the unconditional love of this woman.
It took a lot of work but the rewards unreal.
    They are out there.
    Just takes work.
    My advice =Listen.
For a reason we have 2 ears one mouth.
    Stay safe.
    Bit long but hey.

I struggled last year with unresolved grief and guilt for having had a bad relationship with my dad before he died of cancer. and also a year of high work stress. When my parents started to struggle in old age i just use to remind them, hey you made it through 6 years of having the heck bombed out of you in world war II (literally) you can make it through anything.. they toyally agreed with me.. both passed recently in their 90s both at home until their last 4 weeks which they each spent in hospital.. fortunately for me they immigrated to New Zealand in the 50s to raise children away from a potential world war III outbreak..as did my polish nextdoor neighbour in hamilton, she would lean out her kitchen window and share horror stories of being in a german concentration camp... the point is all these happenings helped me to have courage in my own life when the chips were down and that we can transition even the worst events in life.. my advice is self value is your best friend and feelings are energy, they come and feelings go.. 🕊occ sis.

Hey Mate ive not been around for a bit,
Thanks to you inspiring me I made some big changes in my life, still loving my simple camp life, but I stopped stuffing my face with rubbish food and I stopped been a Lazy Cunt I was getting bad bro playing Video games all days not exercising or eating properly.
Ive completely changed my eating habits and what I eat an love cooking again I used my tiny boat kitchen as an excuse to only eat can food an bread,
I cut out can foods, breads, and milk an eat alot of healthy meals now an more fruit. I do have a protein shake and a banana for breakfast though.
Ive lost alot of unnecessary weight an gotten fit and in shape again, Definitely a lot harder at 40 then it was at 20 😂 but im getting there,
And every day no matter what I exercise I can run 6-12km now once a week I do 25 kms.
Im getting ready to hike 100km next summer from the Cape reinga to Ahipara..
Much love and thank you for inspiring and motivating me to make such amazing self changes.
Our darkest hours can bring forth our strongest strengths.

Tonight I had a ptsd breakdown... my partner an I have just had our first born (11months) an she's abit sick with blocked an runny nose from a head cold. Tonight she needed her nose sucked with the suction machine the Dr told us to get.. my daughter obviously didn't want it happening, kept kicking an screaming but it's for her own good.. my partner put her between her legs an light put 1 leg around my daughter, I just sat there, heard the screams an just bowed my heard an the tears flowed from my face, I put a shirt over my head an screamed into my palms an after she was finished I could barely breath.. I daughter got up all ok, an walked over an hit me in the head with her pacifier. I kinda snapped out of it, this is the second time it's happend within 4 days an it's the same thing watching what happend that caused it.. I've lived a violent life, a violent childhood an upbringing, i hear voices, an i just try. But I love my girls, an I don't want this to affect them. My partner held my arm during my moment.

Fuck yeah the glass aint half full she's over flowin mate... Life it hard, difficult things are fun... smash it out daily... GOt injured seriously at 25, now 43 and and still no room to slow down and let emotional back draft stink out my cabin.. Gotta keep moving got to keep the wind drift of life flowing off your back bumper. A dog will chase its own shadow and make itself crazy without enough stimulation. People sit around and wonder how they are drowning. Sit arouind in the sea and you will sink too, its the same same... You got to at least doggy paddle bro, you gotta doggy paddle until you can build up momentum then swim to shore... Its the same in real life... Just keep moving.

The old story when the Lone Ranger had a pee behind a cactus and got bit by a rattler on his knob. He sent Tonto cross country to find Doc Holliday. Tonto lathered up the Pinto getting to the good Doc whom was delivering a baby and could not tend to the Lone Ranger. Doc told Tonto if he did not get back to Lone Ranger fast and suck the poison out LR would die. Tonto put another lathering on the Pinto and got to the Lone Ranger who was strangling his knob to stop the poison spreading. The Lone Ranger was curious where was the Doc. Tonto informed he was delivering a baby. Well what did he say to do Tonto. Tonto said well Lone Ranger, Doc said you gonna die................................................................ What a mate Tonto turned out to be. All the trails him & the Lone Ranger had ridden, the bullets dodged, the beans n coffee shared round the camp fires and when you needed ya mate he let you down....................................................................................... The moral of the story is don't surround yourself with jolly Tontos'. Surround yourself with one or two good mates-blokes or shelias!. Dont matter as long as they know you are there for them and they are there for you. No matter what. Lone Rangers together. That band of close people never need talk about it-Its a given. ........................................................................... Dont be a Tonto if you want the Lone Ranger on your side. Top man Clay-good bastard and thank you. You are a Lone Ranger. Authentic. Regards Sam.

If your woman leaves you fairly quick while youre having a shit time, and only puts the boot in rather than try to understand and offer loving support, you have to come to the realization that you arent losing what you thought you had, you are only losing what you actually had, which evidently wasnt much.

That's women these days though, society has told them for their whole lives that men protect them and give things to do them and do things for them. It's too much of a shock for many of them when they need to return the favour - way easier to just go find some other dude that isn't going through any difficulties.
