Ella Fitzgerald got arrested in 1955 for singing to a integrated audience. There's a picture of her and another black woman sitting in jail with the most glamorous fur coats on. Singing was easy compared to her real life struggles. She was trained up by drummer Chick Webb big band Orchestra at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem.
I keep on coming back.💯 This is perfect upon perfection 💯. Every note from the her head. 👁️♥️👁️.. Then the scat section. This woman should be in the Smithsonian and Louvre. Ella Fitzgerald is fautless and incomparable.♥️
I cannot stop returning to Ms. Ella. Each time I am captured by each nuance in every song. I adore this voice. Nothing yet like her. She loved this art form and I am so grateful she shared it with us.❤️❤️❤️❤️
No breaks and nary a breather during this set. La Maestra Queen Ella went wherever her voice desired to go. This kind will not come this way again. Just one breathtaking moment after another. 💋💕💋. Just a inexpressible gift.
In 1955 her voice got her arrested for singing to a integrated audience. She was sitting in jail looking staring down at the floor with a fabulous fur coat on waiting to be bailed out. We do not romanticize her, we know her struggles and singing was easy in comparison. People thought she was dirty and ugly because of her dark skin and nobody would give her a chance but drummer Chick Webb of the Savoy Ballroom. Later Jimmy Rushing and the Count Basie Orchestra. Old Harlem lesson.
I saw Ella ten times , and Sarah also. These were two of the greatest jazzsingers that ever walked on this earth. I was at this concert too , and i remember how great it was. We also are in great dead to Paul Acket for bringing these two great singers só many times . Seeing and hearing this concert , also on CD , because it ìs on CD , makes that , although Paul is gone for many years too , he lives on in our lifes forever too.
Mature Ella at the peak of her powers... No need to say more, I enjoyed every second of this performance. Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to watch this.
Imagine Mrs Ella's head voice. It goes haywire. So the unspoken signals that go to Paul Smith's fingers is genius. And the other musicians perfectly band together in collusion. ♥️💕
A word of praise for great Paul Smith, who's been Ella's pianist for ages and a wonderful rhythm section of Keter Betts and Mickey Roker. What a great pros they are!🙏

(Wiwidi is Werner Matrisch) Thank you so much !!! I love the concert so much. I mean, she was not young at this concert - almost old - but her energy was unbroken. As always. Ella gives everything. She was just a wonderful artist. I feel hugged by her.
I wonder if it was due to the periods where jazz artists had issues getting work (I think in the later 60s and 70s) so maybe Ella was thanking the audience for still appreciating her work as times changed. I think Sarah Vaughan and even Frank Sinatra had rough periods because of the music changes.
@@googleuser7454 She seems simply so humble, and such a kind person! While you probably have a point, it seems to me that it's just her adorable personality. For one to be truly great, one must also be humble, and she clearly shows it.
Correct, please: "Dindi" is a reference to a farm named "Dirindi", in Brazil, a place that Jobim and his friend/collaborator Vinicius de Moraes. Thank you
Well past her prime Ella here still can handle the slow songs....but none of that matters....cause we know Ella at her best.....and she certainly was the best
Ella, Carmen, Sarah, Betty, Shirley, Ernestine and Billie. I'll die happy having had these singers in my life.

Ernestine Anderson...Betty who?....Shirley who?
no list is ever complete without Dinah....
There's no one like Ella. What a gift she was to all of us.
ELIS REGINA IS BETTER. ELIS IS THE GREAT SINGER OF THE WORLD!
Verdade.
Gosto muito dela também. @knickertwistcopperby6066

It's amazing how her voice held up in her later years even compared to her contemporaries. She truly loved her craft

A world class woman and singer ... and so lovely and humble

Her talent is unbelievable what a wonderful jazz singer. Grammy material.😊
Friday the 13th in July of 1979 was my 13th birthday. I'm glad Ella sang that day.
And I was exactly 2 weeks old on that day.
This is fascinating.
Sublime untouchable supreme icon legend quite simply the best and always will be.

It's always been weird to hear Ella thanks US after she's just sang her heart out. As if she doesn't deserve even more praise than we gave her

1:36 What is the song title?
There Will Never Be Another You
O homem que está de camisa vermelha, sentado na fila da frente se parece com o Cantor e Compositor brasileiro, João Gilberto. 😂
00:28:46 "Ella hums the blues" --> Isn't the actual title of the song 'Flying Home'?
I also heard Mr. Paganini, Tisket, Chat Choo cho so....it's a medley I think
Quel dommage de ne pas avoir le scat à 28 mn 50 isolé en vidéo partageable !
at 45:40 is there someone screaming something like " shiny stockings!"? or am i hearing things?
