@@Wheelsboy I find it funny that, perhaps it is a big SUV maybe larger than a LC, its design lines reminds me of the Armada, like if you mix the old Armadas - like in the tail lights - seen in innumerous UN missions, with the latest one that is sophisticated and luxurious. The Tank 500 is a great SUV in its own right and probably will make success around the world.

A friend of mine bought one and it has a feature where if you are exiting the vehicle and a car is coming their is a light feature on all doors (changeable colours too) that starts blinking. Also you can change the scent in the car. Assisted driving feature keeps you on the road if you fall asleep.

I know it is not a Toyota Land Cruiser - Prado but this one looks amazing especially from the inside and compared to Toyota it looks much, much better. I like it, from the front it reminds me a bit too much of Dodge RAM, but overall the design form the outside is ok and it grows on you. Overall the front of the car is well balanced and proportional with dimensions. And does not look bigger like with Land Cruiser, where the nose -bonnet is just too big/long for the overall length of the car.

They're bringing this to Australia soon, but I hestitate to think of anyone that would pay 78,000AUD for a Great Wall... even the Tank 300 for 56000-61000AUD is a bit much for your average GWM buyer, but considering the other options available (and waiting times for Toyotas) it might sell purely on its availability

Not to the US due to tariffs. Tank is somewhat unique because it has actual off road capability, but let's be honest, most people just like the space of a big 3 row SUV, and the fact that it looks like an SUV. Currently Li Auto is king of that hill in China, with their hot selling L7/L8/L9 models. Those are much nicer than the Tank inside, have better driving dynamics since they are pure electric drive all the time (with gas engine acting only as range extender) with air suspension, and also has longer electric only range of around 200 km.

    • @Wheelsboy
      @Wheelsboy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

The Yangwang doesn’t have a V6, not because BYD can’t build a V6, but because it makes no sense in that application. You don’t need a V6 to make enough power to supply those quad motors or charge the battery. Therefore, they can’t justify the cost of developing a whole new V6 power plant.
The same applies to the Tank 500 Hi4-T; a V6 isn’t necessary, and would only make it less efficient. It already has 300 kW and 750 Nm of torque, which is plenty for this application. In addition, the Hi4-T system with the 2.0L is going to be used in pretty much every Tank product, including the 300 and 400. A V6 doesn’t make sense for those applications (too costly, more power than needed), so a hybrid V6 powertrain could only be used in the 500. That’s a lot of cost for a very limited application.
Oh, and the 2.0L in the Tank 500 Hi4-T is very likely a slightly modified version of the same 2.0L in the Tank 300, so it turns out GWM is utilizing with what they already have in order to create this product.
But if you’re asking me if I’d like to drive a Tank 500 with a hybrid V6 powertrain making more like 400 kW, the answer is, absolutely yes!

The TANK 500 PHEV shows off with a great exterior and it is quite impressive in-side but for a car > 50k (it‘s a lot for China) still some few things are missing (the same applies also for the WEY brand):
1.This is a heavy car and one should have a Diesel engine plug-in hybrid. Diesel shows always a lower consumption.
2.The interior is not that different compared to the HAVAL SUVs. Check the interior of the Cadillac Escalade. GWM should really hire one or two interior designers that were working for Cadillac (GMC). The wood quality is higher, the whole space in the front is covered with leather.
3.There should be at least one more trim level with real leather interior and self-driving (autonomous cruising) capabilities.
4.Think on a design for the trunk. Every manufacturer is neglecting the trunk. It‘s always black and covered with some cheap material. This is also the case for Bentley for example. So, check some design LED lightning and more leather and/or color.
    5. Include some luxury features: like back-seat infotainment screens (system), small fridge and in the trunk a 110V/220V outlet.
6.Self-driving functions: XPENG and NIO have LiDARs. Where is the LiDAR on that car? I would not skip it as people may want to have a back-up system of their safety front camera. Also it adds additional functionality.

Thank you for taking so much time and effort in your reply! I will try to do the same.
      1. The sale of diesel passenger vehicles is discouraged here in China, because diesel is considered a limited resource that should go to trains, construction equipment, and logistics rather than passenger vehicles. For that reason, you are unlikely to see a diesel hybrid in China any time soon. Perhaps it would be possible to develop such a powertrain for export markets, but this would seem like a poor use of resources.
      2. Completely agree. This is something I pointed out in my review of the Haval Cool Dog, as it shares a considerable amount of equipment with the Tank 300. Considering the fact that Tank is their "high-end" brand, that seems like a misstep.
      3. This car is equipped with a real leather interior, I mentioned this in the video @3:31.
      4. There is a reason that the trunks in cars ranging from a Chevy to a Bentley use similar materials: they need to prioritize durability. The idea of lining even part of the trunk in leather assumes that you are never going to use it, because that leather is going to get scuffed, stretched, or dirty very quickly. This is especially true on a vehicle like this, where it is marketed as something you could take camping or off-roading. I do agree regarding the use of LED lights or other colors (though you have to be careful about using colors that are too light and will immediately look dirty).
      5. Back seat infotainment screen and fridge would be nice, I agree. It already has a 220v outlet in the trunk.
      6. I don't think this car needs lidar or any of that. You have to recognize that the potential buyer for this car is very, very different from that of a NIO or XPeng. That's especially true of the 3.0T version. They aren't buying it for it's high-tech driving assistance system, they're buying it for the looks and the capabilities. It already has adaptive cruise control, and that's plenty. Great Wall also doesn't have the tech needed for that kind of system, but that will change at some point.

@@CrumResearch It's unlikely for Li Auto to go global anytime soon because they've just stabilized their supply chain and production in China and barely meeting the domestic demand, plus they are new in the Auto business so they don't have the capital to venture globally yet. For Tanks from GWM they are already selling in severally places like SEA, Australia, Russia, Middle Asia and Middle East. It's very unlikely for them to go to countries that US can force a ban on them as well.

Agree, in our heart . . . In the early 1980th I did start in a 1700kg Toyota Landcruiser with a rood tent, but we did ride close to the Himalaias with little paved roads.
So it was used like it should.
But since many, if not most families in the EU in 2023 now are solo or duo households, and about all roads are asphalt, why do people still ride around solo for 99% of the time in an EV that weighs over 2 metric tons? Mental problems?

The design is a mix of a Toyota Tundra at the front, a Volvo XC90 on the side, and a Land Cruiser at the rear. It is not coherent. The interior looks good though, and has lots of gadgets. They made some weird design choices there. I have the impression that there are better quality Chinese cars, though not many will have locking differentials...
