    I never get tired of watching you do that. Lovely castings and a very nice engine. Cheers, Alan.

    You should try and make a full scale engine with a real steam boiler. That would be pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Great video as always! Why did you use zinc/aluminium for the flywheel and what's the ratio of the alloy?

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A flywheel needs to heavy. The zinc aluminium is nearly as heavy as iron and machines to good finish.

    Thanks for sharing. What are you using for parting powder? Talc is getting hard to find in the US.

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's calcium carbonate.

  • @gth042

    Where the greensand was touching the mould appears "greasier", or smoother, than in your older videos. Do you add something to the water, e.g. a glycol? This effect could be enitrely video artifact or my imagination. Either way, I hope 2023 is treating you well. Thank you for sharing your art with us.

      @@myfordboy I don’t doubt it. I was referring to the fact that the video shows unmolding the base twice. (13:15 and 14:00). I enjoyed watching both times. 😃

    How many times can you reuse your greensand? Any issues with debris and such causing issues with its ability to adhere together? Or does mulling and screening take care of everything?

    • @danharold3087
      @danharold3087 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Green sand is wonderful stuff.
      Keep in mind that not all green sand is created equal. Can take a while to get a handle on using yours.

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I can reuse the greensand indefinatly. it's about 10 years old now and has made hundreds of moulds.

      @@myfordboy What? I didn't know this! I imagined you were putting it out in the garden or something, slowly building a kind of mound. Oh, this makes a difference! It seems like something that has come up before, but I just didn't catch it. So, I don't think this kind of material is anywhere around here, but if I can buy a sack of it, maybe that's enough!!

    • @rustysteed8414
      @rustysteed8414 ปีที่แล้ว

      In previous videos he said he uses ZL12 which is a commercially available casting alloy. Don't know if that is what this is.

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The metal is ZL12, bought in ingots, 12% zinc.

      @@anttihuttula6547 I gotta say, I'm not convinced. You're clearly a toxic person.
      You could have just said "I doubt he'd be interested" - but no, you decided to be as insulting as possible.
      You know who else doesn't show his face? ChrisFix. How many collaberations has he done?
      Dozens.
      He remains unidentified and has still not shown his face.
      So no, it's not "weird and moronic" to suggest a collab, you just clearly lack imagination.
      So again, why do you have to be so toxic with your replies? Saying there's nothing wrong with your life is not convincing.
      Your responses suggest to me that there is something *seriously* wrong with your life. And so you feel compelled to be nasty to some random person on the internet because your life is so crappy that you want to make others feel as bad as you do.
