For Good is one of the best musical theatre duets... and it really belongs singularly to Idina and Kristin. It’s just perfect.
Is anyone else incredibly impressed by how much Idina’s vocals have grown and matured over the years? She sounds like she can get such a full sound now even when relaxed. I’ve always LOVED her voice, but I’m amazed at how much she’s grown since Wicked
You just don't mess with "For Good." Idina & Kristin forever! They should have the roles. This is how you bring relationship into performance. This should be study material for every musical theatre person.
I still think they could take on the roles it is perfection and magic to watch them together!
I love how this song is truly a narration of Kristen and Idina’s friendship not just their characters 💜
It really is eh? The song just fits that at times I forget it’s about Elphaba and Glinda and not Idina and Kristin haha

This was one of the best performances of this song, since the original Broadway recording that I've seen them do. AMAZING! WOULD LOVE to see them in the film!
I agree, these ladies need to carry the movie. Idina is so relivent at the moment. She can carry it and so deserves it. She is and always will be Elphaba. 💕
Of the many things that are so great about this song is that ... it's one of the most perfect 'love songs'. You can sing it to anyone - a sibling, parent, child, bestie...even the lunch lady if she made an impact in your life.

Every time Kristin sings the opening verses into the chorus, im teary eyed! She has a great way of putting emotions into her words and then we are followed by Idina with the other half with the violins. Ugh, beautiful beautiful performance! they really bring the characters to life even in this stage!

One of the greatest love songs of musical theatre. I love that it celebrates friendship instead of romance.
When you think of the part of musical that this is, Glinda and Elphaba would be that bit older, so Idina and Kristin would be perfect. You could even have two actors play the younger versions until the house falling and let these ladies take over from there. I think Idina said the earrings were emerald, she had a ring too and green nail polish as a nod to Elphaba with the black dress. I adore these ladies and loved your reaction Marc.
Yeah! Totally! I can see dove Cameron as a younger Kristin, and Lea Michele as a younger Idina. The family resemblance is incredible and undeniable.
This song just makes me think of my best friend who passed away in 2017.

I've cried everytime I saw this live. I think it's such a moving piece because the connection is so simple and palpable between the two characters on stage. You dont need to think about the story or themes or anything else. It's just human connection.

I can never understand how any duo covers this song and doesn't end it in a hug.
I remember the criticism Mel Brooks received when he made the film of The Producers with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane so soon after the musical won the Tony. But Brooks said he wanted to make the movie while the original cast was still believable in the parts.
Perhaps the producers of Wicked should have done the same.

Thank you for pausing when you did cause I was about to be a blubbering mess. This song gets me every time, and then add Kristin tearing up and it’s over. This performance is solid gold.

Forgiveness is one of the most powerful things in the world, and their relationship is such proof of that. Watch the one they recorded a few years ago, and watch this one back to back. Whatever happened between them back that was.. clearly not good, even though we all knew that, we don’t know the depths of it. And, their love and admiration for one another is better then ever. Kristen seems to be a much more emotional person then Idina. She always seemed to be the stronger one of the two, so for Idina to get emotional? This is something so special. I love this.
This was my favorite part of the Tonys too! I love watching those 2 perform together its so natural for them and they seem to have a really close friendship..
Just when i thought i watched every For Good performances on TH-cam and nothing could make me cry again, then i watched this one. Timeless classic by this 2 Legends
I know - it will forever make me sad that they didn’t make the movie when these 2 could be the leads. Honestly I’d almost rather they animate it so they can get the original cast without it looking weird

@@perryjones7771 Finally someone who agrees with me! CGI and makeup are very powerful things. But no. There can't be anyone older than 30 in movies now. I never got the chance to see Idina and Kristin on Wicked, and it has been a dream of mine. I thought I would get to see them in the movie. People I know have asked me if I am excited about Ariana. The honest answer is no, I'm not. They should have given the role to someone who did a really memorable Glinda on Broadway. They could also have Idina and Kristin play the roles in act 2, so they can do this song and No good deed.
On another note, do you know if there is going to be a 20th reunion for Wicked? I have searched everywhere and all I found was a 2021 clip of Idina saying how they still text back and forth ideas.

I will admit that this was one of the Tony Award highlights; my favorite being the duet with Audra McDonald & Brian Stokes Mitchell. Kristin Chenoweth, for me, is the crown jewel of Broadway. She is one of those rare singers who can shift from an unencumbered chest voice to her soaring, glorious coloratura voice. She is a brilliant, intelligent singer who knows how to pace herself. I saw her in "Wicked" and she was brilliant. Idina sounded more vocally relaxed and rested with this Tony [performance. . When I saw her in "Wicked" she barely held her top notes in Defying Gravity and No Good Deed. She was strained and harsh sounding compared to Kristin's flawless vocals. For me, Kristin is a genuine performer who delivers genuine performances in the characters she is playing. Marc, I will continue to remind you how much I enjoy your videos and watching you and listening to you. Sigh! That said, I will always hope that you will one day present a video all about you. Thank you so much for all you are doing for musical theatre.
Roberto. I trust your judgement more than my own most times and dont get me wrong I love Audra McDonald & Brian Stokes Mitchell. But that performance?? Idk, it felt forced and didnt hit at all (for me).
@@MarcDanielPatrick Wow! I got to hear directly from you. What an unexpected, welcomed surprise. I 100% respect all of your assessments/opinions. Because Kristen always delivers authenticity, her duet and emotions were equally authentic.
I think the voices of Audra & Brian as love interests in the early 1900’s coupled with the stirring music communicated the hopes of racial minorities during that period of history. So, for that reason it worked for me. I was moved. And yes Kristen and only Kristen moved me.You are my absolute favorite on TH-cam and Patreon. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Absolutely one of my favorites!! I love this song. I wish they could do the film. I agree they should have done it years ago when they could have done it. I personally think they could do it now, we turn a blind eye to age in casting a lot of the time anyway.

The first time I'd ever heard of Kristin (I'm a latecomer to the world of musical theatre) was when she made her first appearance in The West Wing! Some bright spark decided to set this song to a tribute video to Jon Spencer, who died while filming the final season of the show. If you want waterworks, that's the video to go to.
Also, on that final "because I knew you", surely it would have sounded GREAT if one of them had harmonised with the 3rd note above... am I right?!

What theater goer wouldn't love this performance! I agree that it was (is) wonderful. I also really loved the complex and beautiful duet with Ben Platt and the amazing Anika Noni Rose doing "Move On" from "Sunday in the Park With George." I can't remember it being sung better. Great show for the Tonys! So much goodness!

This was my graduating class from high schools xhoice song to represent us. This was the same year we lost 4 classmates, 2 teachers and our campus security guard who was out whole world. The security guards family brought his ashes to our graduation and a lot of us gathered around his asjes and sang this

I struggle to fathom how much meaning this song has for Kristin especially after she sung it during the funeral of John Spencer, who she got so close to during the filming of the two final West Wing seasons back in 2006 and 2007... Along with everything else, that must weigh very heavy on her when singing this in more recent days

This was also one of my favorite performances from the Tony's, but my favorite duet was Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell singing "Wheels of a Dream." And favorite solo: Jennifer HOLLIDAY (edited: I incorrectly wrote Hudson before!) singing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" - it was INSANE!
I think you have a type. It’s jennifer Holliday, not Hudson. Although Hudson does a great job. This song will always be Miss Hollidays and for very good reason. No one moves a room like she does when she performs the song, that’s why she’s not going and you will love her.

Maybe not the best Elphaba actress but definitely the best Elphaba singer. And she has sung it in three different languages and many more locations. Including Broadway and West End. I really love her singing. ❤

Great reaction to a great performance Marc. I've had the chance to see them both do this live together and separately. But this as you called it; this reunion is really a full circle moment and oh, so touching. An aside on Idina. have you by chance ever reacted to her song/performance of Always Starting Over from If/Then? How do you feel about the Wicked live action cast? I personally think while Ariana has a gorgeous performing voice and has some lovely wicked covers, her diction is not quite up to scratch delivering an entire broadway story through song. What do you think?
