Hy Brasil: Irish Folklore or Ancient UFO Base?

  • Have you ever heard about Hy Brasil? Perhaps you've heard of more famous phantom islands such as Atlantis, of which Plato claimed it's inhabitants were half god and half human. If this kind of stuff fascinates you, you'll certainly want to hear about the phantom island of Hy Brasil. It's a completely unexplained mystery of planet Earth. People all over the world have been speculating its origins and history, but the truth remains a mystery. Between ancient alien theorists claiming it has something to do with UFO's and Irish folk tales describing it as a mythical island, it sure piques the interest of many different types of people. How could this vanishing island once be known as a real island and be listed on numerous early maps of Europe? Did the island just simply disappear? Why would so many people have even bothered to try and find it? And why would so many people have claimed to have seen it? There's something up with this place.... It's a place sort of like the Bermuda Triangle, Stonehenge, The Pyramids, etc. Let me know what YOU think in the comments!

    Here is a rabbit hole for you concerning Hy Brazil. An old Celtic theory (I say Celtic because of the stores from my family) believes that our universe is layered. The idea explains how certain things (like phantom islands) appear and disappear. It's still Earth but in a different realm or layer of our universe. There's a long theory of the Earth's magnetism and all kinds of crazy crap that relates to science. It has inspired a story I wanted to write back in college but never got around to it. It's a fun idea. I just don't know if it holds any merit, but something that should be considered.

      It would explain a lot of the strange phenomena on earth like UFO sightings, bermuda triangle, the devil's sea, hollow earth, dyatlov pass, and infinite amounts of unusual cases of things not "normal". If you wrote that story I would totally read it and I'm reasonably certain I can speak for more people! Sounds very interesting

      @@dreammachine432 The UFO thing doesn't inspire me much. There are strange things in the sky but I don't like that everyone defaults to "space alien". As for the 'Triangles', I think there is something to it and if so, is something natural to our planet. I'm not going to give any pretended theories or suggestions, but I do think there is something to it. Our amazing planet is spinning around so much cosmic flack at any given moment. We really are soaring at speeds in our galaxy that are hard to calculate. It's an adventure that we can only discover together.

      You shouldn't write about that story because folklore is impossible to record. I wish I had done the same but by the time I was engaged enough to be interested, the people who had the knowledge and could recall it, all passed away. Don't waste a golden opportunity.

    There are some evidences coming up recently that the country Brasil (the name in Portuguese is also with "s") showing that the country was named after these mythical island. The Portugueses and other Europeans thought they had found the promise land, so they started to call that land in South America - Brasil, and also give its name to the special tree they found there.

    Use a flood map the island already appears exactly at where most maps point it to be if you lower sea levels 20 to 30 meters. During the last ice age not that long ago sea levels were at least 120 meters lower. It is one of the reasons homo sapiens reached Australia sooner then Europe because they could walk there while Europe was almost completely under ice and inhospitable.

    Greetings from Greece! I have a question. How is it possible that the island appeared in 1674 and is expected to be appeared again in 2027? The legend says that the island appears every 7 years for 1 day, so for instance, if we suppose that the appearance to Nisbet was in 1674, the next appearance would be estimated in 2024 and not 2027. Same for 1872 (next appearance in 2026). I could be wrong, or perhaps confused, due to the chronologic difference between appearance and publishing the incident... Amazing video by the way! I love learning about legends and mysteries...😊❤

    People can keep their own thoughts and beliefs cousin. But my firm idea Atlantis of several cultures is the Atlantis mentioned by Greek when them and Romans speak of the Pillar of Hercules and then this Hy Brasil is Ireland's silently changed island also used in their old religious scenes. De Danann Island later high king and ancestor confusion. I'm reading The Song Of Albion Triology and it sound like this is the old island the triology is calling Tir Aflan in its writing because the third book mentions wraiths and similar characters..

    Vera Cruz Island was the first name given to Brazil. This is because Pedro Álvares Cabral's expedition carried fragments of what was supposed to be the true cross on which Christ was crucified.
    `The commanders of large vessels always had remains of the cross, due to the strong religiosity of Europeans'.
    With the visit of smaller ships, in 1504, the island of Vera Cruz came to be called Terra de Santa Cruz.
    In 1511, the Portuguese referred to the place as the Land of "Brasilis" and, later, Terra dos Brasis, due to the presence of Brazilwood in the region.

    Cartographer: a person who studies and practices the art of making maps. A map maker.
    Cartography: the study and practice of making and using maps.
    "In the Age of Exploration, from the 15th century to the 17th century, European cartographers both *COPIED earlier maps (some of which had been passed down for centuries)* and drew their own, based on explorers' observations and new surveying techniques. The invention of the magnetic compass, telescope and sextant enabled increasing accuracy. In 1492, Martin Behaim, a German cartographer, made the oldest extant globe of the Earth." -- Wikipedia

      The 1595 Gerardus Mercator map shows the relative size, shape and location of Hy-Brasil due west of Dingle. How does a cartographer get these facts accurately drawn, unless they are either witnessed or drawn from accurate, older source maps.
      The Porcupine Bank is 650 feet deep. There's no way that the tide levels are going to drop the sea level more than 600 feet.

    • @dreamingmusic3299

      @dreamingmusic3299 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only logical explanation is that the older source maps were drawn more than 12,000 years ago, during the last ice age, when the sea levels were more than 400 feet shallower, thus exposing the sea bank and the islands of Hy-Brasil and Demar.
      Looking at Google maps, 168 miles due west of Dingle, Hy-Brasil and Demar can be seen on the sea bottom. Hy-Brasil is visibly bifurcated, just as is seen on the Gerardus Mercator map of 1595, and Demar is long and thin, as can be seen on Google maps.

    This story was created by the Portuguese to deceive the navigators where Brazil was. Instead of coming to Brazil, they went to the opposite side.

    • @MarceloJoaquim
      @MarceloJoaquim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Searlait Loughlin Hy Brazil was a story created to deceive sailors who were looking for Brazil's gold. So much so that the location is on the opposite side of Brasil, so no one even reached the gold. Unfortunately it became a fantasy for people with no knowledge of history.

    • @MarceloJoaquim
      @MarceloJoaquim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Searlait Loughlin Who created this legend was Portugal. To deceive the English. At that time, many navigators had already arrived in "Brazil", but Portugal did not want the arrival of another nation. Because of the gold, fruit and nature. Remembering that Portugal is a much older nation than Ireland. Hy Brazil is a myth created by the Portuguese to deceive kings and sailors who were looking for gold and land to colonize. History says that Portugal arrived in "Brasil" in 1500, but records show that Portuguese and Spanish were already in "Brasil" in 1100. In other words, Hy Brazil is a myth of military strategy to hide riches such as gold, wood, fabrics, etc.

    • @MarceloJoaquim
      @MarceloJoaquim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Searlait Loughlin Come on! In the year 1000 to 1500 Portugal dominated the seas, along with England, Spain and Italy. However, although Portugal was at the time a maritime power, it owed obligations to England. In 1100 Portugal was already visiting Brazil to look for gold and wood. But for England not to know the location of Brazil they created this myth of Hy Brazil. Putting the false location near Ireland and saying that the island disappeared, so no one found the island. The Irish who were closest to the site of course believed and spread the myth of a vanishing island full of riches. With that, Portugal paid the debts to England before Brazil became a nation. Then look for "beauties of Brazil" in Inter and imagine yourself in its myth, however real.

    • @MarceloJoaquim
      @MarceloJoaquim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Searlait Loughlin Sorry to disappoint you. But it was a myth created by the Portuguese to deceive the English, long before

    • @MarceloJoaquim
      @MarceloJoaquim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Searlait Loughlin You are trapped in a myth of faith. Exactly! Brazil was not called Brazil. But the region already existed and Portugal used military strategy to deceive other nations where it was located and keep the gold. Understand! When Portugal came to Brazil to look for gold, they didn't care about the name, only about the gold. It doesn't matter if Ireland is older or younger than England, what matters is that it was a military strategy designed to deceive the English. Look at the location on the map, "Hy Brazil" is on the other side of Brazil, in 1200 a ship making these trips took months. Only research that will understand, sorry for telling the truth and taking you out of the illusion. And Portugal is much older than Ireland, long enough to create a myth
