Don’t Forget People Living in Pain: War on Opioids and Chronic Pain Patients during COVID-19

  • Governments are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by temporarily suspending or relaxing regulations that block access to health care. State and federal officials should also suspend regulations that restrict access to opioids for as many as 50 million adults living with chronic pain.
Social‐distancing measures exist to protect health by stopping the spread of COVID-19. But shelter‐in‐place orders, lockdowns of nonessential businesses, and prohibitions on elective medical procedures can threaten the health of patients suffering from chronic illnesses, immobilizing disorders, substance use disorders, and mental health problems. The combination of preexisting regulatory barriers and social distancing is causing increased suffering, isolation, and despair among these Americans.
Chronic pain patients, those who advocate for them, and those who treat them will discuss how current opioid policy is making the public health emergency doubly dangerous.

There's actually been a great deal of discussion regarding this over the past 7 years among many chronic pain patients. Unfortunately, most attorneys aren't willing to even look at a case, let alone take an un-winnable case. And unfortunately, when you're fighting govt agencies, it's always considered un-winnable. It would also be incredibly expensive. Unfortunately, chronic pain patients don't have the deep pockets that anti-opioid organizations have.

@@HeyIntegrity They either claim they are not taking cases like ours, that it is against the government and they cannot win against state and federal laws and then there are the ones who just hang up mid sentence.
Personally, I think they are all of the opinion that they do not want to take on the cases because they are not guaranteed a win and because it is not politically acceptable to fight for patients to have access to pain meds. Many have bought into the idea we are all junkies looking for a fix.
If I were a "junkie" I would have sought remedy on the streets in 2016 when my meds were cut off. Personally, I am not willing to do that.
      1. I would be risking everything my husband and I have, if ever caught with illegal remedies.
      2. I am not willing to place myself or family in danger of having unknown substances within my home.
      3. I am not willing to take something that I do not know where it came from or how strong it is, I would never place my husband in that situation.

Thank you Richard Lawhern Phd for speaking up for pain patients. It's the 1st time I've heard a doctor speak out in pain patients defense. It actually brought tears to my eyes. Pain patients are afraid to upset our pain doctors. My new pain doctor's wanting to take me off my pain medication I've taken for 20 years when I didn't do anything wrong from the pain contract. I have serious back issues with MRI's to prove my pain. I've had a pain doctor tell me that he sees in the near future that pain medications will only be prescribed if you have a terminal disease like cancer. I'd rather die from a overdose than live in unbearable pain ! Our pain doctors are killing us ! That's discrimination . The govt sets up heroin clinics and methadone clinics for drug addicts , but won't treat chronic pain patients that have legitimate diseases ! This is plain craziness!

You are seeing that medicine is no longer concerned with patients, but the almighty dollar. Medicine and drugs are multi-billion-dollar businesses. While my concoctions of daily 2x 30mg Morphine and 4 10/235 oxy haven't always reduced me to much less than a rare 3 on the pain scale for more than 10 hours total, at least I haven't been reduced to tears at the thought of going into withdrawal in order to "try" the injections first then be further scarred up to have this insane heavy round pump placed in my abdomen!!! Why in utter hell didn't/can't they have said pump in a pouch ON the waist for Christ sake?!?

@Laura-bi5dc I believe it's criminal also, and perhaps abandoned pain patients should be talking to a malpractice attorney. Since I saw how the medical system buckled to demands during covid I've lost faith in our medical system ; it's broken and it's corrupt . The govt should never be in charge of our doctors and how they treat us, because the govt is corrupt . I've gotten a lot of pain relief from going to the chiropractor, so try a chiropractor. The main thing that was so sad about her condition is that she could not get adequate pain relief medication. Watching my friend suffer day in and day out due to her pain was heartbreaking. I think that we as fellow humans should keep fighting along the sides of individuals to get adequate pain management. God bless you Wendy.

There are plenty of other drugs on the market, that people have overdosed on, including antidepressants. Did we see anyone stop prescribing those? Everyone focuses on opioids. Take a look at overdoses done with non-opioid meds. Nobody banned those.

Why is this problem of targeting the sick, pain patients and aged in mainstream reporting..??? Why is it so hard to understand that addicts have a choice to take drugs to get their highs? We have no choice to get rid of our diseases...???

    • @kmkcopkiller
      @kmkcopkiller 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@lil NYOOM except there is a fundamental difference between somone who if sober wouldn't be suffering from any pain vs people with a legitimate condition who suffer from pain and would be in even worse pain or even worse yet suicide if they were "sober". For addicts the drug causes negative life effects. For dependants the drug is liberating and allows that individual to do tasks they couldn't while in pain.
To put it simply if you put an giant supply of opiates infront of an addict, they will do it all basically as fast as they can to be as high as they can as often. While somone who is dependant and higher functioning would only take what they need to releive the pain in order to do certain tasks and will usually try to limit intake to the lowest amount they can handle before taking another dose. One is using the supply very fast without much thought but the other is trying to prolong the availability of the supply in order to do certain tasks. Like work...
Addiction is dependence despite negative life consequences. If your having positive life consequences such as being able to work when you couldn't because of pain before that would normally be considered a good thing and progress in life...

Then my doctor prescribed me hydrocodone and my next 2 years were nearly back to normal. It helped SO much! Tylenol and Advil didn't touch it and I was blown away at how well hydrocodone worked. I was able to get out and do stuff. I was able to work. I enjoyed my life and wasn't suicidal anymore. I then became pregnant and my pain went 100% away. That was 11 years ago. I always am afraid the pain will come back and I won't be able to get medication again. Thank you for addressing this issue. Thank you all for even broaching this topic! It’s nice to hear some common sense in a time when it doesn’t seem to be so common any longer.
I’ve been dealing with chronic pain now for years & I’m currently going through the process of getting a diagnosis. My PCP & I both suspect MS because the symptoms have gotten worse over time & they’re all MS symptoms. Although I’ve had other doctors tell me that MS doesn’t cause pain. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Touching on what Dr. Trescot mentioned about the physical exam. One of the craziest things I’ve seen was a sign on a dental office saying “ Telehealth appointments available” 🤔
I was a general & surgical dental assistant & I’m still trying to figure out how you’d go about that!
Also now when it comes to dentistry (which can be unbelievably painful) good luck getting anything for pain! It’s not going to happen!
On a side note A story I heard second hand from a very reliable source (someone very close to the doctor) was that a relative of my state’s former governor was prescribed opiates for a legitimate medical condition & our Governor decided to contact the doctor and have their meds pulled!
Of course the doctor obliged as it came from the Governor! Talk about an abuse of power! Now that pos governor is in Washington DC!
Living with chronic pain isn’t something I’d really want to wish on anyone but there are certain people who really should be able to feel what they’re doing to people.
Taking people off their meds who have had NO issues for years is turning many into criminals because some will turn to the streets for pain relief. Our government has done more damage than Purdue Pharma could have ever dreamed of!
If it wasn’t for all of these absurd regulations I whole heartedly believe that we wouldn’t have all this Chinese fentanyl coming in & killing people!

Thank you CATO institute. Yes, the war on opioids has finally fallen on the doorsteps of the average, law abiding, American citizen. For the millions who experience chronic pain, this war is real, life altering, and often devastating to normal life quality and function.
From the tragedies on display in this comment section, from a relatively small number of viewers of this TH-cam video, one can only imagine this sampling covering the vast population of America- the implication is millions of people suffering just like this.
Imagine prescribers who really want to help, but cower in fear before the all-powerful DEA and their counterparts at the state level.

Sadly chronic pain patients have been abandoned by the medical community. Doctors have been targeted by the predatory DEA agents who have no boundaries. They have destroyed the lives of thousands of people who suffer from untreated chronic pain. Chronic pain patients have been stripped of their Constitutional rights by the government by creating guidelines that are not required by law for medical care. Yet every state has adopted them and doctors are required to adhere to them in order to maintain their license. This assault on pain management using drugs that are effective in treating chronic pain have lead chronic pain patients to turn to street drugs for relief and others are driven to the point where they end their lives. Is there an end in sight to this madness? This legalized torture has become the norm, when will Washington wake up and face the truth about this cruel act against humanity?

Its pretty fucked, I always had the additional stigma of being a POC when I went to see the Drs they assumed I was "drug seeking". I avoided getting treatment for my chronic pain due to the fear of being labeled an addict or drug seeker and now that its severe I cant even get a script for vicodin due to the insane new policies. I had like 5 teeth extracted (3 wisdom 2 molars) one time and the drs told me to use tylenol and ibuprofen. Dentist assumed I had ruined my teeth with meth but it was due to un-diagnosed diabetes.

    • @TaraConti
      @TaraConti 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@jorgevespucci9878 The way the medical system treats people now is just cruel! I was a dental assistant for well over a decade when we were giving people scripts with no issues.
About 5 to 10 years ago I started having a variety of different symptoms. With much of it very painful. Within the past 5 years I’ve been trying to get a diagnosis. MS is suspected & I’ll be having an MRI done in a couple weeks. At this point I’ve been tested for all kinds of things & as much as I don’t want to have MS I just want answers. (I just exist I don’t have a life anymore.)
Within this time my teeth started becoming very brittle & breaking. The pain from exposed nerves & infection was excruciating! I went to an office that I had previously worked at but had been sold to another dentist. However there was still some staff there that I had known for years. First round of extractions I didn’t even bring up pain meds & all I got was ibuprofen (which does nothing when you’re in that much pain). Second round of extractions went really bad. Upper left multiple teeth & with a really bad infection that was also affecting my ear. Now mind you I’m 5’5” & 100lbs on a good day so even before this I had always dealt with peoples assumptions that I was anorexic and/or a drug addict. 🙄 (Sorry world but I’m just skinny!)
The appointment didn’t go well from the start. It was a different dentist who was probably no bigger than me! She slipped with the elevator and jabbed me in the soft pallet. I really upset her when I grab her hand to try & stop from being stabbed in the soft pallet!
The way she extracted the molars was towards the buccal or cheek which in turn broke the bone & an adjacent bicuspid (which I had to extract myself in the car before the lidocaine wore off or I was going to be really screwed!)
I was already dealing with pain throughout my body from my other medical issues & the teeth just sent it all to a whole other level!
She asked me at one point how long had I been dealing with my dental problems & I told her it was rapid & that everything fell apart in about a year and a half. Her exact words were “That’s not possible!”
Um yes it was possible because I’m living through it! So at the end of the appointment I asked about antibiotics & pain meds. You would have thought I threatened her child! I couldn’t believe their reactions! The assistant who I had known since I was 15 actually said to me “what did you think we were going to give you a bottle of Vicodin!?”
      What!? No not even close!
Honestly I was thinking more along the lines of maybe 5 or 6 Percocet (Vicodin gives me horrible heart burn) to get through the few days after the appointment. I was already in pain & knew from how the extractions went that the pain surely wasn’t over.
They didn’t even give me a script for ibuprofen!
I’m still so infuriated about that appointment.
People look at me and make assumptions because of my size. In this world it’s not possible for someone to be skinny without them having a “problem” & god forbid you have dental problems on top of it! Did they really believe that I would choose to lose my Teeth for some weak painkillers!? This has been a nightmare come true for me. The embarrassment, pain, & not being able to eat has been emotionally & psychologically devastating. And I’m sure it’s not helping my other medical problems.
Dentistry was my career & I won’t deny that I was always a pretty vain person. I just can’t believe how patients are treated now when it comes to pain.
These restrictions have been the cause of this opiate problem getting worse!

In 2019 I had to tell my children their father was dead of a heroin overdose. He was found in a ditch where he died alone and in pain.
When my brother was 10 years old he climbed a pole to reach a birds nest. He grabbed an uninsulated wire and over 7,000 volts went through his body and exited his head. He has severer internal and external scaring, nerve damage, PTSD..you name it. He was doing great while he was being treated appropriately for pain and anxiety. I can go on and on but I will say the other problems are the added stress family members and care givers when patients like myself are being under medicated! I feel like a wounded animal at the side of the road…. I’m in so much pain I can’t even help myself! Why do I feel pain? BC IM TAKING ONLY WHAT IS PRESCRIBED! Hospital lowered my does bc they didn’t feel comfortable with it when I’ve been on it for many yrs! Now that it’s been lowered NO ONE WANTS TO INCREASE IT TO WHAY IT WAS! So that pain doesn’t just Go AWAY bc they lowered my meds!!! So ppl like myself get desperate and will resort to doing other things to get some relief! Does a diabetic need to fight for their meds? Bc my experience is also the ignorant HOSPITAL STAFF will say JUST BC OF THE TYPE OF MEDS I or other are on!!!! It’s terrible! We already feel like a burden to society so to say such things is UNACCEPTABLE! Not having my pain properly managed due to scared doctors had really put ALOT of strain AND stress in my life which already very stressful due to pain! I’d rather have 1yr of life with minimal pain Vs 10 yrs debilitating pain! Hanging on by a tread indeed! AND ITS NOT BC WE ARE Suicidal it’s BC WE ARE TIRED OF LIVING WITH TERRIBLE, EXHAUSTING, AWFUL, DRAINING CHRONIC PAIN! This madness needs to stop! Ppl living like me can’t stand up and fight …. Bc we can hardy make it to the bathroom for the love of GOD! I’m telling you, ppl like me are not weak… bc dealing with ALL these challenges AND more it’s a miracle we made it through the day! I only found this video bc I’m begging pleading for HELP WITH THIS CHRONIC PAIN! I don’t even reply to txt msgs ! Why… bc I’m in such awful pain! Heck, that’s why I’m writing this at 4am…. I CANT SLEEP! WHY? Because of PAIN! I just want this MISORY TO STOP!!!!! They are killings us by not giving us the proper medical care WE SOOOOOOOO DESPERATELY NEED, not WANT…. Need! Just crazy how THIS HEALTH CONDITION IS ONE WHERE U HAVE FIGHT FOR TREATMENTS AND OR MEDICATIONS WHEN OTHER HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT IM AWARE OF…. DONT! I still have sooo much more to say on this subject bc I have dealing with this BS for quite a while now and the kicker is…. I SHOULD’NT HAVE TO!

But she never offered any of my former meds, she said I could only get rx'd antidepressants for my severe and acute pain.. not helpful & I've tried them all back when my pain was so little compared to now, which is where I'm isolated, I want to cry every morning I wake up in pain, I dont know which issue is causing me to feel like I got almost sawed in half (I do have a disc issue & levoscoliosis) but so many other issues. This dr said my pain is from opioids..but...my pain came before ANY opioids. She also doesn't believe diagnoses from other docs. "How did you figure you have Hashimoto's?" Was her response to me telling her I was diagnosed with it..by a doctor.
The more they take pain meds away, the worse this heroin /opioid epidemic will be. I dont understand how medical professionals say they dont know why it is happening.

I was hit twice, in the same accident, by an 18-wheeler. I was in a coma and in hospital for three+ mos. Then broke my coccyx and had many stitches during the traumatic birth of our third child all because they felt he wasn't being born quickly enough for their schedules. After that, I was in a cycling accident where I fractured much of my spine. I also have severe plaque psoriasis, severe palmarplantar psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, and many other painful conditions. I'm immunocompromised and immunodeficient because of my autoimmune disorders.
I have completely lost any semblance of a life. I have four children whom I can't enjoy or participate in their lives. I have a husband I love and can't do much with. I'm bed bound and only leave our home to go to the doctor because it's horribly painful to do anything. I hate going to the doctor and have no primary care physician. I have hypertension and am going untreated because the cardiologist doesn't want to treat me. He's not the cardiologist I asked to see, he's the doctor the cardiology group referred me to after telling me the doctor I asked to see was too busy to see me until a couple of months later. Now my hypertension is going untreated for 6 more months, until I can get in to see another doctor, because he won't treat me.
I've tried everything for pain Including spinal injections, physical therapy, acupuncture, psychotherapy (which was an absolute joke! Just accept it or distract yourself isn't helpful!), TCM, supplements, herbs, high dose acetaminophen which has messed up my liver, NSAIDS that caused internal bleeding, psychotropic medications and anti-seizure medications, PEMF, Vanderbilt medical magnets, grounding mats, chiropractic, dry needling, incredibly expensive stem cells, rheumatologists, neurologists, yoga, and even (out of desperation) energy and faith healers, etc... Nothing has helped me, other than high dose opioid analgesics, which I can no longer get.
I've become a very lazy person, I have no real life, because I don't have adequate pain mgmt. I'm very grateful for what I do have but unfortunately, my very wonderful PM doctor is currently under fire by the DEA. If my medication is taken away I'll have two options, street drugs which I have no idea where to get, or suicide.
My sister had Multiple Sclerosis and her physicians refused to treat her severe intractable chronic pain. The pain and spasticity got SO bad that she couldn't take it anymore. The same doctors who wouldn't treat her pain, offered her physician assisted suicide. She was so desperate she agreed. They put her in the hospital, on a morphine IV and gradually increased the morphine until she died. I resent losing my sister because doctors didn't want to treat her severe pain! Because the DEA is a rogue agency! I'm headed for the same if my medication is taken away! How can I do that to my husband and my beloved children? I despise the thought but what other alternative do I have? Without opioid analgesics, my pain is unbearable!
How is it that addicts can get nearly 100% of their treatment online through a telemedicine app called PursueCare? They get nearly 100% of their care catered to them, including having their OPIOID MEDICATIONS SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO THEIR HOME through the pharmacy owned by PursueCare called Comprecarerx? How is that? When I'm immunocompromised and yet I have to see my doctor face to face and my prescriptions have to be picked up in person?! Also, this app says they understand that addicts will relapse and take illicit drugs. PursueCare will not quit treating them even if they take illicit drugs! These are people who absolutely deserve treatment but they're also people who, more often than not, made incredibly poor choices. They chose addiction, chronic pain patients through no fault of their own are suffering! We didn't choose chronic pain. Their addiction was based on their choices and bad judgement and yet they get unconditional treatment, Including HAVING THEIR OPIOID MEDICATIONS SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO THEM AT THEIR HOME!!!
Again, chronic pain patients, who through no fault of their own, suffer from severe intractable chronic pain. And if any chronic pain patient would ever have ANY alcohol, medical marijuana, or nicotine in their system, they are summarily and permanently terminated from pain mgmt!

Im in so much unbearable pain from my spine I feel I'm going to lose my mind. I'm having really hard time to get opoids I need for pain. I'm in misery bad. And with the war on drugs it's hard to find anybody that understands there is that much pain because everybody is brainwashed to think people are just being addicts. My spine is so bad I suffer unbearably.

I would like to mention to Dr. Trescot that all of this started in Washington State by the director of the University of Washington Medical Clinic in 2011. Even though doctors went to the state and warned them that the path they were taking would backfire and they would see rising deaths from the use of illicit drugs if the state followed through with their plans to cut opiates [which is of course is exactly what did happen]. We also can't forget PROP's role in CDC's guidelines that soon followed in every state in this country. So I would like to ask Dr. Trescot if she had any role in the implementation of the current pain patient environment that came out of the university she was at and if she had any part in creating the nightmare now experienced by CPP? Oh, unless you are very wealthy, famous, or best of all a politician, which I am sure they have no problem getting whatever pain medication they need for themselves and their families. To the other's on the panel, thank you for your continued efforts to help end this modern-day witchhunt and for all the advocacy you continue to do. Let's just pray it changes soon for the sake of the millions who are suffering.

It angers me that there has been such a public out lash on opioids when so many people truly need them for chronic pain. It makes opioids seem like the worst possible solution. Yet I was non-functional. I almost killed myself. And it was only through very compassionate doctors who started at conservative methods such as physical therapy and then ramping up to injections. It wasn’t until I finally called and told my physicians I couldn’t live in excruciating pain day after day. I was ready to die.
That was when my physicians finally prescribed these medications to me. And I have not increased my dose for over a decade. I am an example of someone who has thrived and can focus on work and family with these medications. And I don’t know why the medical community cannot do studies on people like me. I work in a highly technical field.

I’m in severe pain no withdrawals, why is this happening? I was taking four day no drug abuse of any kind. Pain management doctors are not very good. At least mini art. regular position did a better job controlling my pain. He took blood test make sure liver and kidneys were good function and he did not have a hard time keeping track of what was going on. What can I do? I just want my life back. When the doctors are going to fight back? We could kill babies but we can’t treat people with severe or moderate pain because of diction. And that is not true because not everyone that drinks is an alcoholic. This is a bunch of BS and people should not be suffering. If someone’s taking 4 to 6 a day it’s not bad. When you’re taking 15 to 30 a day that’s a different story, they need to have some common sense it’s not rocket science.

Pain Kills... And there's not a person on the planet that can endure intractable pain 24/7 365 days a year at high levels and not die from it one way or another... I am in pain24/7 ,had a fusion of my cervical spine c2 to t1,left hip replacement, right shoulder replacement degenerative disc disease, and spinal stenosis in thoracic spine, and lumbar spine is compressing on nerves.I have to say that I am familiar with pain, enough to harm myself enough to draw attention to the lack of pain control available to the blue collar man ,or should I attempt humor, and say us " working stiffs" ,the tradesmen that built houses, buildings ,and showed up every day to carry out an allegedly mundane, yet necessary job to help keep progress moving forward. It is now a revolving door from Dr , to pain clinic, where they will do injections, infusions ,and not give pain medication .The ER tries to help, but they can't much,so its back to the Dr,then Pain Clinic, then ER.In my honest opinion it is quite apparent that I need to die,but not on any of the 3 above mentioned watch, for the fear of losing their job is a real problem. There has to be a way to keep us comfortable by switching from different types of opiods to fool the brain, and go back and forth.Otherwise was Jack Kevorkian really such a bad person for supplying a " relief clause" from
Chronic pain that's just going to escalate as we age? I hope there are some answers, right now it guess work, and if you guess wrong, you will most likely fall into the category of " addict" if something happens, and whiner if you keep living with such pain.......God help us somehow, where money isn't king

Me too! I was forced to go into an office that refused to clean. I had to use a tablet to,sign in and even though I registered online, I was forced to fill out the same forms in the office! I have an autoimmune disease and three spinal, diseases as well and they refused to let me to telehealth until the vaccine came out and then they allowed tele health visits, but instead of monthly, I had to do them every two weeks!

My doctor was treating me like an addict. She even told me I sounded like one. Finally I got in to see a pain specialist. I needed emergency surgery on my neck, the very issue that had me called an addict. They removed 5/7 lamina in my neck and fused c2-T1. Due to the delay in looking into this problem I had my spinal cord was very compressed (myelopathy) that turned into compression with damage that was restricting blood flow to my brain. This explained why laying in bed made things easier I was falling down a lot. This is a symptom that was ignored. I was even asked “Why do you keep falling?” I replied “if I knew, I wouldn’t fall!”. I couldn’t believe what was happening. In 2012 I was on a lot of heavy pain meds after a car accident. I had a bad reaction to nucynta which was slow release. I started using medically prescribed cannabis. 6 grams a day. I was married and it made things harder financially but we managed. I became a single mom and couldn’t afford it anymore. Im glad I get my script now of Percocet and dislike hydromorphone. Personally I don’t think that hydromorphone metabolizes very well with me. Im being honest. I didn’t even have Tylenol in my home for quite sometime. My family Dr (I’m back tracking here prior to surgery, had offered me Fentanyl!!!! The sane doctor that called me an addict. When I said no, I just feel safer on Percocet. I’ve taken it off and on without issues. To me Percocet is just a bit stronger than T3. She went off about how Percocet had a street value! She mustn’t watch the news as fentanyl that she offered is killing people. Anyways, I am writing a lot. I just wanted to share. Everything i complained about basically was being ignored. Then when I had x-rays, MRI’s ect that proved I had issues that were all under the broad spectrum of chronic pain causes. Be your own advocate. Don’t allow people or doctors to put you down. Only you know your health.

Term "opioid Crisis" is so overused, where is all the chatter on a "meth crisis", huh?!

A common phrase in life is "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy" but you know what?
Over the years, I actually do hope and wish these doctors end up in the same kinds of pain and look back and think to themselves "these people weren't lying".
    Sorry not sorry.😢

i'm living with Chiari Malformation and Pseudotumor Cerebri and Severe Stenosis they put me on Palliative care But my Pain Clinic cut me off cuz i can't have injections due to Chiari . there seems to be alot of Clinics that will only give a Person in Severe Pain a small amount as long as they can have injections.

That's because the injections, which often cause more damage to the surrounding structures due to the corticosteroids used, makes them boatloads of money. It's all about $$$.

I don't understand how a govt with any intelligence can treat people with chronic severe pain so horrible. Not even allowing adaquate amounts to keep pain managed. They think they're saving people from having to many drugs to get addicted or die on and have no concept some people are just in horrific pain and it's not about abuse. It's like taking tylenol except opoids actually stop the pain. Whoever is regulating the medicine is looking at it as only for abuse and making it agony on the patients needing it. Someone needs to stop whoever is trying to prevent addiction and prevention on pain patients and let people in agonizing pain have medicine. They're turturing people in pain.

I wish we had amazing people like you all here in Australia. Our health system is going down this road too. I have MS and suffer chronic pain every minute of the day, my dr and pain specialist prescribed me Targin after a long road of trial and error. Targin was a life saver! Literally! Before this I was depressed suicidal and had no quality of life. All through my late teens and early 20s I was isolated due to the pain.
We have been "out of stock" or low on stock of targin for over 3 months. Due to this I have had to call around and travel to different chemists that happen to have a box here or there.
Because I went to different chemists, Medicare flagged me and called my dr, who now is extremely hesitant to prescribe my medication..even though she was aware of the shortages, I literally told her everytime!! I take 2 different strengths 20mg and 10mg , 50 a day. She refuses to prescribe me my normal dose and only gave me a script for 10mg..thats 5 a day, 28 pills in a box 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ that last 5 days and a bit. I am hoping to see my neurologist soon and preying she can help.

Neuroinvolvement which has continued to impair mobility and second, chronic pain issues from at least arthritic source and other issues affecting my lower back, hips and up to shoulders. The pain is constant and varies to severe on some days where I can barely move a muscle. I have a PCP from a visiting physician service. I cannot get opioid prescriptions which is all I have found gives me ANY relief. I have tried and tried every brain path modality I can find. Being bed bound precludes me from many options. It does not MATTER if I am addicted, in any case I am dependent. I am non-productive in any case and in my condition and age, if I should make a mistake and overdose it will only hurry my approach to death by a little bit. I am not wanting to suicide, though continued severe pain could wear me down. I am
