Hi. I got this imac 3days ago & im stuck in install disc2 because the previous owner didn’t give it to me. Only disc1 that was inside the dvd driver. So my question is,do you sell those discs. Cuz i need only disc2 for it to proceed on my imac :/. Apple support don’t have it cuz it’s like crazy old like Greece 😝.

Not for nothing but, I miss the whole "Aqua" look in OS X.
Dark Mode is nice and all but, there is something about that Aqua look, especially before Tiger ( with those striped lines ) it was just more colorful, more alive.
Now, everything is getting darker... cooler looking but just dark and eh...not aqua.

Most don't know, since they never really publicly announced it - those Front Row sounds were actually created by Pixar after seeing the software. The team showed Steve Jobs with placeholder sounds and he was basically like "I know who to go to" and a team drove to Pixar in Emeryville and had them create the sounds.

this was an awesome video. As I run a Mac shop, I occasionally get vintage stuff in, and it's so fun to go back to Tiger, where it all started. I was bored with windows waiting for VISTA to finally come out. My Archos Jukebox MP3 player died, and even though I didn't want to spend the money, I ended up getting an iPod. It was just super cool, and there was SO MUCH INFORMATION on the web on how to use it. Im an apple repair business BECAUSE of the iPod halo effect! I bought a Mac mini g4 with Panther, a year before the switch to intel. then I bought an intel iMac and the rest was history. Apple gave you SO MUCH, people really got hooked with all the stuff you got from a Mac.

My dad started his IT business in the mid 90s back home in Florida specializing in Macs. This stuff takes me back.
By chance would you know what specific CDs he used for this install. I need the tiger CDs for an 06 iMac I just got but I'm not sure if they need to be specific to the machine.

    • @floridaapplemacprosinc.2224

if your talking about the disks that came with the computer, YES they do have to be for that machine (iMac for iMac, Mac mini for Mac mini) but you can find the general install disks on auction sites, those are NOT specific. @@Papa_Izzy

Hi Ken! I'm a long time lurker and follower but this is my first time commenting. This video really struck me though because we seem to have a similar history with the Mac as a platform. My first computer was my step mom's Mac Classic back in 1992, but after that I used Windows pretty exclusively as a kid and teenager until I went to university and really fell in love with Apple as a company. TECHNICALLY my first return to the Mac was the Hackintosh dual-boot I built in school, followed by my first official Mac being the 2008 Unibody Macbook, but my first in-the-flesh experience with a Mac was the aluminum unibody update to this very machine in your video, which my best friend bought back in 2007. It immediately drew me in, and like you I proceeded to learn and grow immensely creatively by playing around with the creativity software on the Macintosh. I also learned way more about computers by switching to Mac than I ever did when I used PC in high school. Anyway, this video really took me back (especially since I also recently restored a 2007 iMac - the very one I mentioned earlier that my friend passed down to me since he's moving and can't take it with him) so this rang true for me too because DAMN did that restoration process really tug at my heart strings. I know I'm 3 years late with this comment, but thank you so much for this video. :)

Entourage was the email client. It was good until you hit the 4GB wall. Then it would crash. Entourage stored all of the email in one file, which had a limit of 4GB. If it tried to store more, it would crash the application. That's when I stopped using it. Of course that was back around 2004 or something. Hold onto those install discs. It's nice to have those around with all that stuff on them.

As an almost completely blind individual, I fell in love with the mac OS and Apple in general, when I got my first mac: a macbook air in 2012 running mountain lion. And strangely, I never updated the thing until high sierra literally 2 years ago (although I used Yosemite and Sierra quite a bit on my father's 2014 iMac). I now run Mojave on a 2010 mac pro 5,1 as my main machine and dual boot with windows 10. Nobody does accessibility like Apple does accessibility.

With every iteration of the iMac, each one brings its own charm to the table. The G3 started it all, the G4 pushed the limits of what designs could be, the G5 began the realization of the iMac’s future, every intel model from the white plastic units to the thin retinas innovated on the slab, the iMac Pro showed what a powerful iMac could be, and finally the silicon iMac returned to its roots with color filled innovation just like the G3… a colorful new start to a new era of the Macintosh legacy…

well my first mac was the 32 bit MacBook1,1 ... and this very machine is still with me, tho it got its 3rd logic-board (it used to have a 2.16 GHz C2D for like 6 years, but after that broke it got back the original 1,83 GHz CD). This machine already was split into pieces when I needed its LCD and built up my main MacBook from a machine I used to buy spare parts (but it had a housing in much better condition). Later when I got an even brighter LCD from another MacBook, I put back together all parts from my original MacBook1,1 from 2006 and re-built this very computer with all their original parts I could find. I tried Tiger, but then I installed Snow Leopard, as Tiger is way too outdated when it comes to my internal networking and some other stuff. You even can run the lastest version of SL-compatible Firefox and get a nearly complete modern web experience. On the other hand, it runs debian GNU/Linux 9 with the MATE desktop customized to look at least as good as Mac OS X - even if debian 9 MATE does not have a working Global Menu. Beside this I got my self-made dark-mode-theme with lots of style lend from Mac OS X. Anyway ... it's half past 9 P.M. ... good night!

I completely forgot that Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger was my first _actual_ Mac OS as well (I'm not counting Mac OS 8/9, which I used fleetingly on elementary school iMac G3s). I remember using wages from my first job, plus Christmas and birthday money, to buy the very first polycarbonate MacBook ever released-in "iPod white", of course-back in 2006 which, incidentally, shipped with Tiger. Man, I wasted so many hours in PhotoBooth and iMovie. I have fond memories of bringing it with me to Florida to visit my girlfriend at the time, and having to spend hours sitting outside in Florida's swampy 98-degree heat to steal a neighbor's WiFi because her father was too cheap to pay for internet. I loved this version of Mac OS. It had such a nice flow and aesthetic compared to Windows XP, which I had running on a Gateway PC at the time. I hated the design direction Apple pursued in Leopard and beyond.
I wish I still had that MacBook, and Mac OS X Tiger with it. I should have kept the thing in storage, but I ended up wiping it and gifting it to my ex-mother-in-law, figuring it was the best option for a non-computer user to get acclimated (it was, but still). Thanks for letting me relieve the memories, Krazy Ken.

I had very poor luck with OS X. My first Macintosh computer was a mid 2013 MacBook Air. I bought it just when Mavericks came out so the first thing that happened when booting it up and getting it up to date was losing all the pretty UI elements I had been lusting over for years from my little Windows corner. I still appreciate all the multitouch gestures and clean, easy-to-use interface stuff but I miss the way it used to look. Good thing I now have three iMac G3 DV and one iMac G3 DV SE so I can get all the early OS X I want (three machines will be auctioned off after the pandemic so more people can enjoy the glory of transluscent plastic.

Oh man, I have so many computer nostalgia stories that I don't know if I can fit them all in one comment.
I'll stick with the Mac side of things: When I started elementary school, it was all PowerMac 5xxx series computers (the really old all-in-ones, from before the iMac was introduced--the school mostly had 5200s, with a few 5400s and 5500s here and there). They switched to iMacs either right before or right after winter break, with some 5400s and 5500s staying around until... probably 2005 or so, when the whole district gradually transitioned to eMacs. But yeah, lots of nostalgia for old Macs, even though I was a PC user at home. (Incidentally, I'm on the lookout for a _very_ obscure program called ClassWorks--not to be confused with ClarisWorks--which we used on those older Macs...)
Oh yeah, and at my middle school, we were _not_ prohibited from installing Dashboard Widgets, so everyone had a lot of fun with those. There was a Mario clone called JumpmanIV that I used to play a lot. It sucked, but it was still fun in its own weird way. And because I liked pretending to be a radio DJ, I would load up my Dashboard with a bunch of weather widgets for different cities near Chicago.

The first computer I used was a Zenith Z160 PC compatible that ran a very primitive DOS. As a little kid in the single digit age, I could figure out (EDIT: Actually, I was taught by my parents) a command line interface, drive letters, and 5.25" floppy disks. But I wasn't the most careful with handling them so a lot of them got destroyed :-(. I played games in monochrome CGA (the computer was one of the old lugables with a built in monitor) with PC speaker sound. My elementary school had Apple IIe Enhanced computers (the ones with gray keys and a number pad and came with color monitors) because Apple practically gave those away to schools in the 80s.

I still use it for some retro gaming and to stream music occasionally to other Apple devices

Back in '06, at 9 years old, I was fervent for Windows Vista to come out. However, I always loved the design of those white plastic iMacs and OS X Tiger. I remember being at the Apple Store near Cedar Grove, NJ and begging my dad to spend about $1400 on one of those machines running Tiger. Long story short, he said no. :( Although, I found an education Late 2006 model on eBay a few years back for $50. Installed Tiger on it and was not disappointed.

My first computer when I was really young was an iBook G4, same one I featured in some of my own videos. But I was super young back then so I barely knew how to use it even. Then my next was a 2009 Windows Vista tower which was low end and costed $300, but surprisingly good for the money, and I ran Minecraft, Roblox and Terraria (Terraria required a gpu upgrade tho) which is all I really did on it. I used it up until 2019 when I built my own PC, running Debian 9 on it (now Debian 10). I also used 3 laptops since 2019, first I used a 2011 MBP 13 inch, then upgraded to 2011 MBP 15 inch, then got a newer computer which is a 2018 mobile workstation laptop running Windows 10.
