Which are separate eye conditions one affects the pupil while the other affects the iris. However, you get blue eye colour from the front layer of your iris called the stroma. People with blue eyes have no pigment at all in this front layer, causing the fibers to scatter and absorb some of the longer wavelengths of light that come in. More blue light gets back out as these wavelengths are shorter and the eyes appear to be blue. Its one of the same concepts as to why the sky and sea appears to be blue. Essentially he had blue eyes, just one appeared a different colour due to his dilated pupil allowing less light wavelengths to be scattered and absorbed in the iris, compared to his good eye.
