I think we developed our dark sense of humour during the blitz. It's the same as trauma doctors and nurses use humour as a coping mechanism to make light of the horrific things they have to deal with. A good example of this is my dad who had his left foot blown off in WW2. He would constantly make jokes about his artificial foot, sometimes turning it backwards just to make us kids laugh. As he said "it's better to laugh than cry". Jimmy is actually a genuinely warm and friendly guy.
It's been around for hundreds of years. Having a ruling class who only spoke French and a subordinate serf class who spoke english helped develop it no end. There's elements of black humour in the works of Shakespeare, Marlow and Chaucer. That humour didn't come from the blitz but no doubt it helped us get through it.
We understand it's just jokes. Us Brits make light of darkness happening. Winsten Churchill talking about the Blitz of England during the 2nd world war where 64,500 civilians died through the air raids, called them the unfortunate occurrences. Our films are even dark our TV shows don't always get the happy ending like Hollywood do. Everyone knows an American film ends with the guy getting the girl our films are more likely to have the girl or guy die at the end lol.
Funny thing is the majority of brits and irish who love the dark humour would be the first to help or stop any dark real live moments they witness. If your scared of jokes, you ain’t doing shit in real life. It was dark humour we grow up on. when your in a group with ya mates everyone just takes piss out of one another. I realise watching American shows, they seem to prefer Sit-Com, people acting goofy, ours is more sarcasm.
The British can laugh at anything that's one of the reasons why we're Great. Check out some Frankie Boyle too, if you can tune to his Scottish accent. He has some pretty harsh to the bone jokes too
British people joke. In any type of situation. About anything. We can separate what we believe and what is funny and some situations are so messed up, you have to laugh.
European comedians tell proper jokes from soft to dark humour. Almost all modern day American comedians tell story jokes that go on forever or jokes that are not even funny. Bring back the 80’s American comedians who were your best.
How "risky" it is depends on the audience - the British/European audience is [perhaps] peculiar in their love of cutting satire (I genuinely don't know..). Comedy can be a public relief of tension, as such the ability to find a laugh in the worst things is often how we cope with them. Centuries of warfare - of one army ploughing through the fields, sons and daughters of the town - only for the other side to do the same before the next harvest. Or worse, after.. Ahh the good old days.. Good comedy *makes* us laugh, we're not given the choice as such, Jimmy got that part spot on. Going back to the Greeks - Tragedy and Comedy have been, shall we say, 'entangled'.. Like some of the poets, comedians and the audience need the pain to work with and build on. Without it, it can become a bit of a rice cake, in the blandest sense. Jimmy had a great spot on the Big Narstie Show. The two of them have a little roast and the world was given one of the best lines of comedy since recording began. The 'Gym/vending' joke is simply bloody genius..
You probably should watch 'Cats does Countdown' which shows off a milder version of Jimmy Carr. This title comes from an old TV advert and an afternoon number and word panel show. There is also a show just call eight out of ten cats.
Thats complete bullshit. The UK has gone completely pc in recent years. All of these comedy specials are from before everything went woke. Your delusional if you still think the UK is like it was.
@@NoloTee Dont listen to him. I live in the UK. The UK went pc a few years ago. All these "offensive" comedies and stand ups are from years ago, and some of them have been banned/removed/censored on platforms and condemned even by the very comedians that did them. Its sad, but true. Police will knock on your door for perceived offences, and "thought crimes" here. The guy above has his head in the sand...
That's because comics like Jimmy Carr understand how to frame the joke such that the target of the joke is not the marginalized group. For example, the joke about the stereotypical haircut for those with Down Syndrome. The subject of the joke is the hair but the object is not the patients but rather the caregivers.
@@NoloTee yeah was a couple she did laugh at and a couple she tried to not laugh at lol Didn’t like the rape jokes but laughed when he called it a struggle cuddle 😂😂 Maybe she just doesn’t want to laugh incase people think she’s a bad person for doing so 🤷🏻♂️
You guys have to watch the whole specials he posts. A lot of these jokes are not as funny without comtext. Also you miss a lot of great not as offensive jokes as these (but stihl a little offensive) :D
humour. Americans are more prude, older Brits derive their humour from the front lines of WWI. The trenches. I write humour as they do. To honour that tradition. They smoke Americans at that, 1000 years of culture and history will own. Besides, they created your country. It's understandable.
Jimmy's a bit of a difficult one for Americans to warm to as a lot of his jokes rely on cultural undertones or references, and most of it is a string of simple jokes so it's not like a whole story/rant you can get into. Miss the reference, miss the deeper joke. Jimmy's other schtick is his ability to destroy hecklers.

Jimmy Carr is a national treasure
And is often described as "doll-like" 😅
"He reminds me of the doll from the Goosebumps stories"
Ha, thanks to you I will never unsee that now!
You need to see Jimmy taking on hecklers. He opens the floor for the audience to heckle him and the interaction is hilarious.
British comedy! proper offensive and no fucks given!
As it should be
Couldn’t live in America, way too many fucks given about essentially anything!
we are not censored like the USA is, thats why
Jimmy, Carr is hilarious, l love his dead pan delivery with a twist at the end......

Best comic ever
Love Frankie but that one just drags on too long.
In Britain life floats on humour. If the moment is happy or dramatic makes no difference, there's always space for humour and a cuppa... 🔥Go Jimmy Go💪

@NoloTee naw that's the national sense of humour.. we are all like this

He does look like the goosebump doll😂😂😂😂
The thing to remember about Jimmy - is that these bits are just the outrageous bits His show has a lot of jokes not all of them as risque
You'll warm to him in the end guys, dry British Sarcasm at it's finest
*its finest
Any one of Jimmy's jokes would ruin a TH-camr's career if they said it. 🤣 Man is the master of "I'm going to hell for laughing" style humor.
🤣😂
Humour*

We used to. Have you seen Britain recently? Its a politically correct shithole full of people who are offended.
Long gone are the days you knew.
watch jimmy vs hecklers, he destroys them
Will check that out, i feel like we did one already
Even though we despise evil people and the things they do we love to joke about it.
Like tell my bro to leave his dog alone, she's walking funny 😂
UK comedy is wild. Love it. My favourite is Micky Flanagan. He's hilarious, not shocking like Ricky though.
He's difficult to understand fully outside of Britain to be fair though. Rhod Gilbert has some great rants in his stand-up too
Frankie Boyle 😉😆
Not anymore
Slappy the puppet yea he's been known as that for years 😅 6:08
Babies, Jimmy Carr 100% looks like ventriloquist dolls! Accept that harrowing fact and laugh, then move on. Xxx

Frankie Boyle is a lot darker,
yh but i doubt they will be able to understand him lol 😂 😂
Imo frankie just isn't funny..

Yeah definitely need his old stuff before he sold out, his tb series was an experiment in how to offend
Americans don’t get Frankie. Or can’t understand the accent.
Us brits are just dark asf
I think there are two of the goosebumps movies and Jack black plays in them.
You really need to watch Roy Chubby Brown.Enjoying your vids.
Which clips?
