Good jobðð
I have a 96 Tohatsu M50D, im building it into a race outboard. My question is can i gain more top end by porting without pulling the cylinder sleeve and running .20 over pistons. Im trying to keep it as stock as possible. Thanks for any help, this outboard in a short shaft con. is impossible to get in S.C. so i got one shot lol
Hi Mate,
Yeah, you can. I would not bother with oversized pistons, you wonât even notice a difference.
You can buy high compression heads for those but I would join tohatsu racing on Facebook and ask the guruâs there what the best options are for your needs.

@@25hpboatracerman yessir I'm all up in the forums! Been rocking with FastCats Racing and TSR products. All the wheels are in motion and I'm running a TSR Billet Head with Fast Cat reed plate. Upgraded jets, carbon reed's, 50 carbs though. So besides 70 carbs and a mikuni fuel pump and a 70 bore 50 reed plate from fast cat I'm only left with porting and a couple other options. When running a 11X15 round ear I get 48mph on a Fast Craft XR14. Rev limiter is unplugged. I'm thinking I need a semi cleaver prop to get more top end. Thanks for the advice!
@@knightcustombuilds6988Iâm in sc as well Iâm porting a 59ci merc 60 Iâll give ya my contact info if you wanna get together and share ideas

@@carsonbaker4750 I would 100 % love to link up and get some go fast ideas flowing! NTM the motor your building is also on my build list! We definitely could help each other out!
Nice mate.

I like the tool but i only have acces from the piston shaft. The head of the motor whit the spark plug has no opening.
Why canât you remove the head?
@@25hpboatracerman it hase acces only one side, the sparkplug side is cast to the cilinder block

Oh, ok.
That might make it hard to port unfortunately.
Keep me posted

I have a 2 hp Yamaha engine, can it be upgraded to 3.4 hp?
Hi Champion,
Unfortunately those cannot be upgraded without custom mods which mean pulling the powerhead apart. you might only add 1/2 hp with those custom mods which you will not really notice.

do you do dental work? what if the purpose of porting? thxs
Hi Mate,
I donât do any dental work, only motors ð
I do know some people use a dental drill for porting small motors. The purpose of porting is too increase the flow of the motor and increase power. Allowing better flow of air and fuel mix into the combustion chamber and also the better flow of exhaust gases out increases engine performance.
