Ray you know what kind of a lesson I'd like to see? One about fitting song parts together, like if you use four chords in your chorus, how many chords would you like to have in your verses, how to modulate between parts of the song so that it sounds deliberate, etc.
Hey Pakanahymni, great to hear from you! Because transitioning between different parts of a song can only be taught in the context of a whole song, it's a far more time-consuming topic, and therefore the video would be way too long (analytics show that people don't watch long videos on TH-cam). This is exactly why we launched our online apprenticeship program. In it, our apprentices watch behind-the-scenes videos from our studio sessions where we write songs from start to finish, and teach all the theory along the way. They gain insights into every step of the songwriting process and learn our most advanced hacks, including how to transition seamlessly between sections. We also do live Q&A sessions every month to answer questions about the process. If this sounds good to you, then you can find out more and sign up to our apprenticeship program over on Patreon, here: www.Patreon.com/RevolutionHarmony. We'd love to see you behind the scenes! Thanks again for your interest in Hack Music Theory, and until next time, take care and happy songwriting!

Cool , I’m starting to get the idea of the syncopation and offbeats now I think. The offbeats where you can syncopate are the ‘and’ in 8th note bars . If you are dealing with 16th notes I’m guessing the same ‘and’ and the ‘a’ could you also use the ‘e’ in One -e- and -a- two -e- counting 16ths . It gets confusing . Although I’m thinking anything but the 1 and 3 are offbeats so can be used to syncopate. 1 belongs kick and 3 is owned by the snare in rock and pop , . I’ve got some drum programming books to read anyway lol 😂

@@HackMusicTheory Nice to get a reply! I'm producing plenty of music: Deep Dubstep, Future-Garage and High-Tech Minimal are my favorites. I haven't released anything, yet. But HEY: I'll get only a single chance to make a FIRST IMPRESSION. Thats why I keep on learning until I feel like I can really identify with my sound. I'm very creative and would call me an expert at mixing and so on. But Arranging a whole song is what I struggle with: Having a matching intro for the first verse which leads into the further parts and so on. I technically know how to do so, but realizing the theory on ideas that I reaaaaaaally like is the hardest thing to do to me atm. Creativity vs technicality (if that's even a word haha). I love your channel. I've just started learning to write songs on my Korg Gadget for Switch software, and having loads of fun. However, I am doing it totally blind as I have very little knowledge about music theory. Your channel has been a great discovery, and I am interested in your Apprenticeship courses. Just a quick question. There are loads of great tutorials on TH-cam.. does this mean that there are lots more on the courses that are not available here on TH-cam? Thanks for such a great channel. This is a non boring way of learning music theory, which I really appreciate.
Aww thanks so much for your kind words, Comic Book Cretin, and a warm welcome to the Hack Music Theory community! We're thrilled to hear you're diving into music theory and learning how to apply it to your music :) What kind of music are you making? We love that you're interested in our Apprenticeship, as it sounds like you'd be a great fit for the course. And to answer your question: Yes, there is an abundance of exclusive teachings in our apprenticeship, things we don't teach here on TH-cam, like how to write new sections for existing sections, how to choose the key of your new section, how to transition between sections in different keys, how to structure and arrange your songs, and a ton of other essential music making topics too! Thanks again for being here, we're sending you lots of good vibes!

Having a matching intro for the first verse which leads into the further parts and so on.
I technically know how to do so, but realizing the theory on ideas that I reaaaaaaally like is the hardest thing to do to me atm. Creativity vs technicality (if that's even a word haha). Maybe u have a tip for that.
I'll keep on practicing everyday until I've reached my goals. Music is my passion. 🌐🔥♥️
Greets from Germany 🇩🇪
If u want u some examples:
Boris Brejcha - I Take It Smart
Truth - Direct Blow (the chords)
Trentemøller - moan (Enigma Dubz Remix)
Thats what I'm interested in.. very emotional ans deep stuff
Awesome, thanks for sharing, Calvin, your passion and love for music really shines through and we love it!! From the sounds of it, I think you would really dig our online Apprenticeship course. It's 17 hours of unedited video that captures every step of the songwriting process, from blank screen to finished song. We also dive deep into the topic of structuring and arranging songs, which we don't cover here on TH-cam. And, it's all taught from a practical and creative perspective. If this sounds like it would be helpful to you, then you can find out more here: HackMusicTheory.com/Courses. We really appreciate you being here, Calvin, and we're cheering you on in your music making journey! Have a great week, and we hope to see you back here in the comments soon :)
this is so brilliant

Wow! You explained this so well; thank you.
I'm terrible at writing riffs and melodies. This video was immensely helpful, thank you!
I love you guys. Your channel is fantastic.
I'm going to leave a comment, but first "TEA"...
Your channel rules! Thank you so much for all of your videos.
Haha!! You Rule Patrick!! Thanks so much for watching and welcome to the Hack Music Theory revolution! Take care and please keep in touch :)
Contagiously awesome!!! 👍👍👍

lol, wow, we have the same guitar. Don't know many others with a koa Godin XTSA!
Awesome. Thank you so much!
Wow! Loved the video it was so helpful! What music software are you using?
Another brilliant video, I've always wondered how to make riffs from chord progressions. I'm learning so much from you guys, thanks so much!
Hey Conor, great to hear from you! We're super pumped that you're learning lots, we're honoured to be helping fellow musicians. What kind of music do you make? Hope you're having a lovely weekend. Until next time, take care and happy songwriting! Kate :)
Technically speaking, none right now but hopefully soon it'll be lots thanks to you guys! I play guitar so anything from folky acoustic to heavy riffy stuff. Although I think I'll be investing in a keybnoard/piano soon after learning so much theory from you :D
Hi Conor, thanks so much for sharing! We're super pumped that you're going to dive into making your own music, we're cheering you on! Keyboards are awesome for visualizing theory, plus they help keep our fingers dexterous and nimble! Speaking of heavy riffs, I think you'll really dig next weeks Halloween special...it's based on a riff from Ray's upcoming metal single. We're getting super excited for the reveal! By the way, where are you based? Until next time, take care! Kate :)

I love all your videos, they are so informative! I have a question, not that it matters but I'm really curious about what virtual instruments you guys use :)
Hey hey Ricardo, thank you sincerely for taking the time to watch our video and connect, we truly appreciate it!
We use Native Instruments Massive for our synths (not just a clever name haha!): www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/synths/massive. And the bass guitar we use is: www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/scarbee-jay-bass. The piano we use, which is absolutely gorgeous and we highly recommend it, is: www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keys/the-grandeur. For drums we use ToonTrack EZ Drummer: www.toontrack.com/ezdrummer-line. And we also use their Dream Pop expansion: www.toontrack.com/product/dream-pop-ezx. Hope that helps with your curiosity! Have a great week :)
Thank you!

Your videos are so helpful
Hey Rodney, great to hear from you again! We're happy to hear that you're enjoying our videos :) What kind of music do you make?
I like surf music, blues, punk, jazz, depending on the weather, any kind of music.
I'm beginner level. Im interested in getting some software. I like green tea.
Thanks so much for sharing Rodney! Green tea is awesome! If you haven't already, may I suggest that you check out our free music theory book, '12 Music Theory Hacks to Learn Scales and Chords'? It will solidify the foundations of your music theory knowledge and it's a super fast and fun read. You can download from our website: revolutionharmony.com/books.
Also, just so you know, we use Reaper and are big fans of the software and the company for so many reasons! They give you a free 60-day trial of the full program and it's relatively inexpensive to buy at US$60. You can check it out here: www.reaper.fm. Take care and have a great week! Kate :)
Excellent! May I ask, with regard to #5 Harmony... you add the A above the C (9 steps)... is there theory behind that choice or were you simply going for a high note to catch the ear? Thanks!
Amazing!!!
We're really happy you enjoyed our video, Europa's Ocean! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, we're deeply grateful to you. Until next time, happy songwriting! Kate :)

Hey Dan! Many thanks to you for watching and connecting again. We really appreciate your gratitude! Kate :)
fucking super nice, incredibly opening my eyes.
What are you using for that organ patch? Sounds great.
Nice
If I want to apply this to a polyrythmic riff (let's say 7:4) can I also put the harmony notes in the strong 4/4 beat like u do here or would it sound awkward?
I love these videos! Very informative! One question, what software are you using here? Thanks👍
Hi Chua, thanks so much for watching and connecting! We use Reaper and are big fans of the software and the company for so many reasons! They give you a free 60-day trial of the full program and it's relatively inexpensive to buy at US$60. You can check it out here: www.reaper.fm. Take care and we hope to hear from you again. Happy Songwriting! Kate :)
should i switch to tea? I got lots of riffs but problems making them go anywhere
Hey xisotopex, sorry to hear about your riff problem. And yes, tea should definitely help, along with a little Hack Music Theory ;) By the way, if you want more riff lessons, here's all our riff hacks: th-cam.com/video/UAeW3U-bHmI/w-d-xo.html. Hope that helps, and we look forward to hearing from you again soon. Take care, and happy riff making!
Please put in intro what DAW you use as people constantly ask you on every video and I don’t know why it starting to annoy me! My problem but can’t help it! Love your videos and ebook is great.Just having bad day!
Thank you so much! This really helps.
By the way...Any idea of how you would do this the other way around? Like you have a melody in your mind and you want to find the chords that best fit it.
Hi Marcos, thanks for watching and connecting! So glad this video was helpful to you and yes, we will do a TH-cam video on that topic in the future, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we've just covered writing chords for a melody in depth in our online apprenticeship program. Apprentices watch behind-the-scenes videos from our studio sessions where we write songs from start to finish, and teach all the theory along the way. We also do live Q&A sessions every month to answer questions about the process. If this sounds like it would be helpful to you, then you can find out more and sign up over on Patreon, here: www.Patreon.com/RevolutionHarmony. We'd love to see you behind the scenes! Thanks big time for your interest in Hack Music Theory, and until next time, take care and happy songwriting! Kate :)
