Keep in mind the reason mainstream helicopters are so expensive this due to the certification process, that literally flat out doubles the cost of any aircraft on the market. Pound for pound the equipment r&d craftsmanship and time to build an r22 should put it at effectively no more than 120 to 150k, competitive with this helicopter if it weren't for the FAA's overreach
A friend of mine has an older one of these and it's a handful to operate because everything is manually controlled. Not sure how much the newer electronics help but it seems like a very good deal for the money. I'd rather fly one of these than get in a Robinson that has the ability to mast bump in turbulence.
@@RealRickCox It will cost you $250-$300 an hour alone in fuel in that new helicopter. All 2 blade helicopters are susceptible to mast bumping. Happened a lot to Hueys in Vietnam. Bell 206 has had a lot of issues also.
@@chippyjohn1 I’ve never heard of a 206 mast bumping and I don’t have to get a special endorsement to fly the 206 like I would for the Robinson. The rotor systems are completely different in their engineering.
I flew the factory 162F. I couldn’t get over the chain drive in an oil bath and multiple fan belts to drive the tail rotor. The pre-flight at that time was about 1 hr. I couldn’t see putting my family in anything less than a turbine helicopter.
Their drive system looks about as strong as a mosquito but has 3 times the power. They have had issues with the old chain and even the new belt system snapping as well as drive shafts. The design from the beginning was very novice, not sure if the still have a belt running to the tail rotor.
New design has a drive shaft for the tail rotor. Not enough hours logged in the newer machines to know how much more reliable it is, but I'd definitely trust it more than the janky triple belt setup they used to have based on principle alone.

My dream was to have a Helicopter of my own since I was a kid, but once I researched and decided to get my sport pilot licese I am not looking back, I still would like a heli, but you really have much more fun and actual flight time in a Fixed wing, helis are cool, but hard to fly, heavy maintenance and not fun to fly, or so I have been told by helicopter pilots, these buggers dont want to fly so you really have to have your hands and feet always on the controllers

I feel sorry for the people that lost their deposit because Rotor X just went bankrupt and your video only made it worst by peddling a company that knew was going bankrupt. Giving discounts while inflation is going up is a sign the company knew they are going out of business and tried to steal deposits from new buyers
Nobody touches a very touchy subject of flying small craft.... Code Brown.... in other words when the pilot or anybody else has to poop (think diarrhea) and there is no time to find a place to land.
It’s not really “home built” more like home assembling from a kit. not for everyone but anyone with a little mechanical sympathy could do it, and it would still need to pass inspection

"cheapest helicopter" famous last words
lmfao 😂😂
There's a fireworks stand on the side of the road not far from my house. "Cheap-cheap Fireworks!" is its name. Run by a three-fingered guy...
It’s nowhere near the cheapest, it’s mostly the maintenance that’s cheap. Yearly costs are half that of an R22 and they come with avionics

@@DirtFather407 So the Robison is now a standard? oh , help us!
Beautiful aircraft, thanks for sharing 👍.
Rotorway(now Rotor X) has been building their own custom engine for decades. It is an opposed 4 cylinder but not a VW engine.
And @ 160BHP, not 140.
The first ones was Subaru engines i think
Rotax engines
As a retired corporate jet pilot I would love to have one of these to fly nowl
Such a beautiful design.
Thanks for another great video 👌

Since they changed more than just the colour of one rivet does that mean that the UK CAA regard it as a totally new aircraft design?
If you have more from the expo please post
I’m a A&P mechanic I work on helicopters and can make some up grades to the mosquito
good looking 🚁
I’d buy one of these IF (and only if) it had a turbine engine.
They make one called the jet-exec
That is a lot of helo for short money. Good video Bud.
What is their safety record?
It has nice lines too.
WOW!!! that is one badass choppaa 😂
What type of maintenance(engine time before overhaul and max rotor time)….plus…would an helicopter mechanic need special training?

long time ago yes

I think the neighbors might not like it very much.
If I’m not mistaken, you can also get this helicopter already built, just contact their sales department about it.
