You don't have to build 51% of an experimental aircraft. An approved kit has to allow the builder(s) to accomplish 51% of the needed tasks to build the aircraft. So if an experimental kit airplane has 30 ribs, the kit can supply 29 finished ribs and the builder has to fabricate one to get credit for a "rib making" task. Some kit manufacturers offer two week to taxi programs where the "builder" goes to the factory where the staff "assists" the builder in accomplishing the list of tasks equating to 51% and they essentially build the rest and you have an aircraft ready to taxi under it's own power in two weeks. Sure, there are scratch builders out there who take raw materials and hardware and build off plans but most kits today are quite complete and mostly require assembly and finishing work.

Materials which are used in aircrafts needs much more inspecting when those are manufactured so its more from that and another reason is because not so much demand and that makes lessmass production and that is another reason for higher prices, surely its lot of money

Lot off ppl are scared to fly and the other lot just dont care about flying or owning one so no mass production i do understand, and the extra safety that it needs coz u cant just pull off the road and inspect the engine as with a car.
But with all that been said and understood, its still extremely expensive to whats needed to build n fly it.
      Just my opinion.
Im in the process of stealing one, just sorting out some fine details.

I don’t like the term ship and I fly them. I guess it is just easier to say than helicopter. Most fixed wing pilots refer to them as aircraft. Another general term but more appropriate in my opinion. A ship is a large vessel that floats on water. Most helicopter pilots when talking about them say ship with such regard as if it is the love of their life. I get their affection but it is still hard to hear the word ship and not think about a large boat. Just my two cents.

There's good reason an R22 costs more than this thing - quality engineering. These rotorways use a dozen belts between each system and a modified car engine for power. They're also amateur built so who knows what mistakes/shortcuts the owner took, if he had a few beers that night assembling the tail rotor system, or if he became impatient and got sloppy with the rivets. The R22 uses the worlds most reliable piston and is built by professionals to exacting standards. Is your life really not worth 50k?

They show it like he did created himself a helicopter and builded himself, while he simply got helicopter in parts and did all, i mean all the work helicopter company should have done instead. While they should had build bunch of these for same price you bought, It should cost only 30 000 $ max with all parts they made and build. In my opinion all aviation business is big scam. Manufacturers simply pockets all the money. Its like if you would have car price of ferrari on all cars, but ferrari would be no more than toyota prius at best. Its damn simple these aviation companies are bought by corps. And refuse to release cheap products, to not get hit theyr main sales. This is how they work. Small company creates the product, which at first is so so cheap, but to create in quantity and pass all test they need money, so they sell theyr stocks and it ends up people who own stocks will never agree to make it cheap as this will hurt them, and if they dont buy it they will make so what this wont go out, like bribing inspectors etc. To sell one expensive piece is better than selling millions for cheap for them. Thisis what we get bunch supoer old planes flying and not loosing price, only increasing value of new ones. those ultra light ones just now started to increse and more competition lower the price it is.

Here's my comment-- After watching hundreds of helicopter videos, my conclusion is they are simply too dangerous for recreational flying. Helicopter pilots can practice autorotations to infinity, but when a real emergency happens, it usually ends in a fatal crash-- even with experienced commercial pilots. I think helicopters should be restricted to vital situations like search and rescue, medical evacuations, military operations, police surveillance and not much else. Was just watching a video this afternoon of the helicopter crash that killed one of the country music singing duo Montgomery Gentry. He took the flight just on a whim for entertainment before one of their shows-- both he and the pilot were killed. ALL flying has risks, but I think the risk exposure of helicopters is way too high for non-essential joy riding. There's my unsolicited opinion.

I would never, never refer to it as a ship! If it was a blimp I would call it an airship. I was a yacht builder for over 25 years here on the coast of Maine. The marine industry and fishing her in my blood. My dad is a retired Air Force colonel, and one of my hobbies is Aviation. I have been building and flying model aircraft for41 years. I now have 56 RC helicopters, and over 35 airplanes. And that includes jets. Most all of them are scale. They span from World War I to the current time. I have never ever heard anybody call an aircraft a ship never mind the helicopter. That’s stupid! Oh fondly refer to them as birds. And I would look that guy in the face and tell him nice bird!
