Mate, if it is possible, you should see if you could build a city underground, using the terrain forming tool to build a mountain, then build the city inside of it
YOU’RE RIGHT!
Fr
You cant. Terrain above any infrastructure would disappear, it just be a ton of spikes.
nah itd just cut through the mountain
I didn't exactly get your point. Isn't it just a hole in a mountain kinda situation?
21:30 "We finally made an unsuccessful city!" (Forgets he turned the corporate tax rate down to 0%)
😂😂😂
For anyone who's wondering, the latin grave says, "Even though it's sad and soft-spoken, it's a lot more than my valley needs."
no wonder they got killed, how pretentious
@@eKko0must have been an archetect
Wisdom not soft-spoken
I was just about to comment that
Oh heck, it actually says something? I thought it was just a Lorem Ipsum snippet xD
In this episode, Matt "I don't like night cycles in games" The Architect builds a city in perpetual darkness.
I think Erin might be blind, that dog's not a pet, it's a guide dog. She only thinks there's sunlight because the realtor lied to her.
It's a town for auto-immune people who get sun poisoning every time they open the curtains... I definitely do not have personal experience with that exact situation...
Polymorphic light eruption?
@@AlasdairThompson unfortunately for me, fortunately for sunscreen companies. You?
Yeah one of my meds makes me sensitive to sunlight and burn easily, and I live in Australia, terrible combination.
@@AlexandriaWhitney_ Not me, I used to know a girl who had it (apparently it's more common for women than men?). She used to make her own sunscreen! I don't know what was in it other than coconut since that's what it smelled of. Also had lots of wide brimmed sunhats and always wore long sleeves with a tight weave. We lived in Edinburgh at the time, so sun wasn't always an issue lol, but the breakouts were not fun. I'm sorry you have to go through that.
I thought most glass blocked UV rays!
As someone who lived way too long in Florida, I would happily live in a shade town like this.
Same for here in AZ.
Ditto Texas!
Same from Australia, I have to spend half the year with the windows covered.
I hope you recover well from living in Florida
someone from Albania i agree
Around 18:32, "...it's got a maze..."
Can't help but notice that it also has "the strongest shape" as well... Lower right of the garden.
;)
In today’s episode, Matt becomes Mr. Burns.
Who Shot Matt? (Part One)
I think it was Erin.
@@ikrIkarustwist it was Paddy
Haha nice. I havent though of the simpsons in a while. Good reference
How nice of RCE to build a city for vampires
**hiss** Finally, a place to live. 🧛♂️
And Gingers 🧑🦰
@@chrisb9960DAYWALKER!!
@@chrisb9960as a ginger can confirm
Matt you were right, it is Latin on the grave stone and it translates to “Even though it's sad and soft-spoken, it's a lot more than my valley needs.” And, you also got the “it’s a lot more than my valley needs” part correct, good job Matt
Love how the hedges just look like sheets of gillie-suit material hung up on fences 🤣
0:53 You've just made Alaska and a polar night basically. In Alaska, the North Slope has two months of darkness. In Utqiaġvik, which is formerly known as Barrow, the sun is gone for over two months in the winter. The sun doesn't completely set in Barrow from early May until the end of July during the summer
You know more places have polar night than just Alaska? 😉
The Latin on the tombstone actually says "Even though it's sad and soft-spoken, it's a lot more than my valley needs."
2:29 Matt sounds like an architect with that anti-efficiency talk 😡
ARCHITECT MAT
Being european ≠ being american. Grids are the fruit of the devil.
If you can, please make a district in Engitopia called Rowhouseville and make ALL residential ROWHOUSING. If you don't have the demand than just wait.
16:46 "sorry paddy if you're watching this" absolutely love the humour mate 😂
Matt is basically building Rjukan in Norway!
They built a cableway to the mountains, so the citizens can have some sunlight in the winter.
Sure, they have some sunlight reaching the city during summer, but they are in the shade for half the year!
RCE " I hate night mode in games, let's do a whole episode in the shade instead"
This is a really creative video! Can't believe I haven't found you earlier. I mean i found you like idrk half a year ago, but you have my exact humour, I just found you hilarious! Keep up the good work RCE! :)
I love it when he does bridge reviews and he says it like “we need… a Bridge Review!”
Need to make that my text tone
Make the entry road underground, so it can pass under the gigawall and you can then extend the gigawall completely.
1:50 Matt not using a tunnel as it would make sense. Never use a sensible tunnel! 🤣
"but being British I love curvy roads I don't like grids, I don't like 90° angles" what kind of engineer does like curves and doesn't like 90° angles? Who you are and what have you done to Matt?
He explained it in a previous video.
He actually was a road engineer, and road engineers are taught to prefer curvy roads for safety reasons.
A curving road will put you on alert, forcing you to stay focus, where a straight road you kinda lose your attention, and tend to speed up.
It's an intricate balance between maximum efficiency (allowing for speed, grip, rain flow) and safety.
That's the reason roads are never quite straight.
Regardless of all that, Matt really is playing the game like an architect.
@@MrT3aroads are also curvy because there’s just not a lot of perfectly flat places in the world with no barriers to get around or destinations to move towards lol
This rminds me of Viganella, a little town in italy where tho montains cast a shadow on it 24/7. The region had to build a big ass mirror on the montain to get some light to Viganella
This city reminds me of that one episode from the Simosons where Mr. Burns blocks the sun so everyone has to always use electricity, so he can make more money.
I love the Bridge Reviews!!! Could have an entire series of them of real and imaginary bridges!!!
That intro was 🔥🔥🔥(just like where the architects will go after they die 👀)
imagine if Matt later write a dystopian novel called "The City In The Shade"...
My Man literally build Mittenwald in Bavaria, a village which lays directly at a huge mountain wall xD
The 'always turn left' is a legitimate maze solving solution and will guarantee you can solve the maze (assuming it's not got any loops) but it doesn't guarantee you'll do it fast. You'll likely hit dead-ends and have to backtrack, but you just apply the rule every time you come to a junction.
There is actually the setting while building a road, which determines zonable sides of a road. That way you can turn off zoning for every given road, ore leave only one side zonable. So you don’t have to place temporary paths to achieve this.
I just started this game and now I'm addicted to it. You make some great content I hope one day I can show you my city so you can make some suggestions for me.
Challenge Idea:
How about you play City Skylines 2 as Timberborners?
We can’t really make droughts so maybe floods?
Find a map where you have build dams to prevent your town from flooding.
Hmmm, a whole city stuck in the shade? I guess living here could be... pretty cool ❄️
Grove street just did a cameo 18:23
Day 27 of continuing to peer pressure Paddy into making Matt play Mindustry more.
It’s worked twice, the second time even it worked without any help from The_Box_King. I believe in you Paddy, you can truly make Matt do anything if you put your mind to it.
PS: Paddy, cats are not architects, we're too aloof to care what other people think, when we make things we go for functionality and efficiency over form, which I believe is what an engineer does, no?
50 shades in Engetopia? Always Shady in Engetopia?
Wow, amazing intro… Matt should do a Ninjago reference “Long ago, before time had a name”
My sister an I call the maze technique "left shoulder right shoulder". Pick a shoulder and have that pointing to a wall at all times. If you didn't get dropped into the middle of a maze with a circle road you'll always get out.
Matt i'm french and today i'm in London with my class !! It's for me the opportunity to see all of the beautiful bridges of the capital
erin is the sunlight that is why when you came close to erin you saw sunlight which means that she creates her own sunlight without the sun intercepting thats exactly why she tweeted that she likes the sunlight
As a person who hates the heat (and, thus, the sun) living in an apartment that always faces the sun, I’d move to this city in a heartbeat.
You'd hate to live in the country I'm in 😅
the north of england is just depressing id do anything to live somewhere that has sun and warmth
It's amazing what nature can do!
Good video. Keep it up!
I love how Erin's face is the sample clip for the thumbnail.
It's just RCE panning directly into Erin's face while it says "Vampires" directly below her.
3:34 "if I back it up, am I fast enough"
The thing about building only in the shades reminds me of a Bluey episode about the shadowlands
11:21 Latin translation to English: Even though it's sad and soft-spoken, it's a lot more than my valley needs.
14:27 the tweet really got me 💀🤣
I had an idea while watching this, you could make one city in shade and one with sun kind of like a wall dividing them.
Just recently they have grinded off bicycle lane markings (they make it an even bigger bicycle lane...). Sadly i missed to make a picture of it before the rain came, because where the bike symbol together with the arrow above it were, now was a very interesting shape after they grinded the markings off... ^^
super challenge mode: do this in Timberborn, where the sun angle is based on the camera angle
Matt, can you please make a concentric city surrounded by walls ? Like medieval times. It would be see how it will come out
That’s exactly what i was thinking
in Rjukan - Norway, they are so far down in a vlley, that they build mirrors on the mountain, so they have some sunlight at their city square
And now I have to try this, making the road tunnel through the wall.
…what happens when the sun moves?
erin overcoming the endless polar night by becoming a source of sunshine and then immediately tweeting about it 😄
RCE I HAVE AN IDEA, build a multi level city with pieces of terrain acting as diffrwnt levels. So a SKYSCRAPER city, with each level having its own city layer on it. :0
7:53 WOW ITS TIME FOR BRIDGE REVIEW😂
11:18 defines to “even the sad soft wisdom is a lot more than my valley needs” in latin. I searched it up.
Peer Pressure back in action! Play FrostPunk! The engineers need your help to make sure everyone doesn't freeze to death!
Even though it's sad and soft-spoken, it's a lot more than my valley needs.
Hi Matt I love in the UK to "Hampshire" I've just seen a dog that looks like paddy I love near a park keats park in cowplain called Charlie hope one day you can meet her
Matt: I hate night time in games >:c
Also Matt: hehe city always in dark 🥰
Matt, for british style cul de sacs you should be using alleys as they're much smaller and look better for the style of neighborhood you're going for
What about,,,, combining ALL your previouse challenges,,, into one super-challenge? include parts of EVERY challenge into a city? :O
Thank you Mate for building a perfect city for me cuz I'm basically a vampire in the morning
18:22 GROVE STREET! YEAH!
In reality, this challenge is very realistic, there is a city in Italy, I think, that doesn't receive the sun, recently they placed mirrors on a mountain to direct the sun towards the city.
“I’m going to attempt to do this fairly realistically.”
*camera pans to giant dirt wall*
I would have given that bridge a 6.4 - seems like I'm becoming an engineer by just watching your videos on like a daily basis. Noice!
As a Floridian I would love this city!
Matt: Everyone in the shade is miserable like all the time
Me, in Arizona: Holy shit! Free shade? Like, everywhere?? All the time??? Where do I sign up?!
i always go left when playing computer games and exploring poi's cos i have a bad memory.. it helps me explore entire buildings and not get lost or keep going thru the same rooms over & over
So this city is basically how I live my whole life 🇱🇹. The sunshine is something special for me. Sometimes it's like a miracle to see it because it's usually cloudy, rainy, snowy, rainy and snowy and add the annoying wind 🍃 and then the temperature below - 20°C during the winter. Can't complain about the summer time but... I'm so not used to sunny days that I always hide in the shade 🤣. So this kind of city would work but with some really bad consequences.
We need a Bridge Review montage video of all the Bridge Reviews so far
I'll be honest, I was definitely expecting some kind of FF7 Midgard city under a plate. Matt, make it happen! Use your powers 💪
Mr Burns would be so proud of you.
Yeah should we be concerned?😂
with the way you make this city wean the sun moves on the other side the sun I will light all the city because you have add mountains walls only on the one said
in the order make this mor mislabel i will have to have wall in both sides where is the sun is
ideally i will have ceiling as well in the order to not have light at all for the sun.
(i don't know if the Skylines 2 have day night cycle or not but ther is way to improve in the order shadow more on the day.)
The problem with this mountain is the wind will descend and it is gonna be dry and hot!
9:45 Oh, the irony! 11:16 Epitaph... In a city-building game?! 15:37 You made the sun!
Nice video
"Mind your tips, lads, mind your tips"
- Strongest Shape RCE out-of-context
And everyone thought Mr Burns was the only one who wanted to block out the sun.
Showing true architecture nature now 😂😂
8:30 oof, the zoning blocks are broken even when using the grid tool!?!
10:26 cheeky architecture in progress
I was expecting Matt to put down two smaller hils at the start as I saw the shadow extend...
Never thought I'd see the day when I'd get jump scared from Cities Skylines. 10:19
Erin's clearly a super-saiyan
Ngl one of the funniest intros. Well done Matt's basement dwellers.
The return of Sim Shady.
I think in the next episode engitopia could benefit from a *really* efficiently shaped mountain. It would definitely promote tourism?
Mr Burns in shambles right now.
Modern City of Mordor in the shade of Mount Doom
You do have such a nice abutment, 10/10 would engineer it most efficiently. :P
Hi rce, love your vids
Matt unleashes his inner mr burns
I do hope you called that place 'Ginger Town'!!!! :D
i actually need this, it's like 30 degrees celsius in istanbul (at least the part where i live)
I've missed these. I might buy CS2 because of this channel.
