- In this video I show you how we tune the 1988 Corvette. Please let me know if you have any questions about the car or the process in general and I will be sure to help you out! Thank you for your time. #tuning #diy #camshaft
You’re supposed to put it on the number one spark plug wire
Correct
Thanks for making this, I definitely learned a few things!
That's not how you "tune" the car. That's how you set timing. Two different things.
🤣You hooked the timing light up to the #5 cylinder at first, I was wondering what you were doing but I see you moved it to #1 cylinder when testing.
Ps the cars ecm is what controls fuel and timing curves not the distributor. Set it at 6 degrees and have somebody write you a new prom.
Partially right
Good vid kid except u hook up ur timing light to cylinder 1 don't misinform ppl or catastrophe damage can occur
I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to hook up the timing light to cylinder 1? If I’m wrong please let me know
This is like the blind leading the blind and I don't think that engine has ever been apart.
Thats is just setting timing. Tuning involves way way more than just timing
Yeah very true, setting timing is all I know but I’d love to learn what goes into actual tuning on a computer
Can’t even start the damn car so idk how to do this!
Great video. Does the car computer need to be programed for the tune as well? This is my next project for my 87 once I'm done installing the headers I just purchased.
I'm wondering the same thing
Yes it does need to be tuned. The ecm changes timing and fuel, not the distributor
Lol .....the ecm handles air fuel ration and advanced/retards timing but you can absolutely advance or retard timing manually. These ecms can not be tuned by today's means. You must have a custom chip made or add in a tunable stand alone ecm
my c4 vet 89 having problem with the idle running high all the time .how can i bring it down. IATS TPS IAC MOTOR .something i can not put my finger on it .maybe i need an ECU . by the way i rebuilt the engine too .distributor plugs . wires are all new
How many horsepower did you gain by the 501 comp cam and after the tune
I never was able to put the car in the Dyno, because of the way the injection system and intake is set up I didn’t gain much whp but I did gain lots of torque
How much did it cost for you to do the cam in the end
I would say between $800-$1000 since we had a machine shop do the heads.
@@apprenticeautomotive Thanks I was thinking of doing the same to mine.
Would you use the same process for a gt45 turbo?
Nice job on the video. What degree did you start at before the new cam and were are you at after?
Thanks, I did not think to check the degree before cam which I should have. Right now I am advanced 8 degrees of timing and the car seems pretty happy. No spark knock or anything but it does seem to be running a little rich.
@@apprenticeautomotive thanks for the info. I’m having a similar issue, running rich. If you find a solution please share. Thanks!
@@darrellcounts5140 I have mine set at 10 degrees, I also bumped the fuel pressure 5psi ,I had the fuel pressure bumped 10psi but the car was running rich specially on cold start,I am running a jet performance chip but not sure if anything else done to the pcm
How would you do this on a 93 vette with the LT1 engine?
I’ll have to do some research and get back to you on that. I don’t want to give you any bad information. The LT1 in your 93 doesn’t have a distributor correct?
@@apprenticeautomotive yea but not like yours
I know this is old, but did you ever find it out? Trying to fix timing on my 1993 LT1
@@apprenticeautomotive how does it run?
This was hard to watch
Didn't say what wire to hook on to.not good
Jet chip
