- My good friend Dana and I set off on a ride from Grand Junction to Moab on our Priority 600 bicycles. This 168 mile route takes us on scenic byways and dirt roads for a fun 3-day adventure organized by the San Juan Hut System.

Happy Sunday Everyone! I hope you enjoy this little adventure with my best pal Dana. The route we took was sooooo beautiful, and went through sections of Colorado I'd never seen. Any of you have bike touring plans in the near future?

I was really into biking a few years ago, but somehow, I slipped back into my "old ways". Lately, I am really wanting to get back to it, but I need to exorcise some of my demons. Thanks, Ryan! Looking forward to it. At some point if you don’t describe it in the videos I’d appreciate hearing if you think that catching a shuttle from Moab to GC on the front end is better than leaving a car in GC and catching a ride back at the end.
we don't talk about that...Dana's wife came and picked us up at the end, but the guys we met from Denver did the shuttle, seemed smooth

Thank you for posting your adventures.. i'm riding with a childhood friend from Portland to the Oregon coast late June. Thru the Banks-Vernonia trail (an old railroad that was paved over...that means it is pretty flat. LOL) . Come join us..

Your lucky you have wild sage in your area, I have to grow it in the garden. If I have congestion due a cold or allergies I like to make a tea using 1 part sage leaf and 1 part mullein leaf. Natures wild medicine! I could be the only one that does this but I enjoy seeing the road side plants in different areas in your videos.
That sounds like a great tea, I'll have to try that. More roadside plants coming in the next episode
@@duzer you can find the herbs at food coops. Just put it in a tea ball and put it in hot water. Nothing like the smell of sage in a hot tea!

If you went on 50 about 3-5 miles you could have hunted geodes! A geode is a sphere shaped rock which contains a hollow cavity lined with beautiful crystals.
Geodes begin as bubbles in volcanic rock or as animal burrows, tree roots or mud balls in sedimentary rock.
Over time, the outer shell of the spherical shape hardens, and water containing silica forms on the inside walls of the hollow cavity within the geode. The silica can contain any variety of dissolved minerals, the most common being quartz, but amethyst and calcite are also found.
Over a period of thousands of years, layers of silica cool, forming crystals of different minerals within the cavity.
Each geode is unique in composition and can only be truly discovered when cracked open or cut with a rock saw. The size and formation of crystals and different shades of color within the crystals make each geode special.

What a wonderful series. Thoroughly enjoyed it and your other videos reviewing the Priority 600. How did Dana modify her bike for drop bars? I’ve wondered about the potential of the Priority 600 if you stripped it of the dynamos, fenders and tried to make it a bit lighter like their Apollo gravel bike.

I cannot believe Dana puts a drop bar on her 600, I would like one with the same setup.
I put kick stands on all my bikes. I put one on my Trek DS, dude at the bike shop looked at me like I was crazy when I asked him if he had one that works with that bike LOL. I hate laying my bike down. So much better with a kickstand.

Really hoping to be able to get my first bikepacking adventure in this coming weekend on the Alabama Skyway, which includes Cheaha State Park and several forest service roads inside the Talladega National Forest near Anniston, AL.

She did, but priority won’t have that as an option, their new Apollo bike has dropbars though

I'm curious about that pinion gear box and belt drive. Do you think that's the future for all bikes? I like how low maintenance it seems to be. Also, I really want to do that Durango to Moab hut to hut ride (but the singletrack version).
We're here for you Ryan! It's easy and worthwhile to customize your bike, like Dana has done. Sometime maybe try the Jones Loop H-Bar or my favorite, the butterfly/trekking style. My hands, wrists and right shoulder are much happier now during long rides.

Hey Ryan, I watched these videos plus some of your 600x ones. If you were going to compare the 600 to the 600x as a touring/commuting bike on gravel with some steep inclines, what would you say are the pluses and minuses of each? Finally just want to say Dana seems like a really cool person; her positivity really came through in the videos!
