Fun fact- originally Demi's character Mitchie was going to be the one to go over to Camp Star. If you listen to some of the songs, you can actually hear Demi in them. They had already recorded the music, before changing the plot.

That's a way better idea than reversing Tess's arc, it held no emotional weight at all. This would explain the rift between her and Shane better

Pretty sure Demi's hoarseness here is _partly_ due to their then-silent battle with bulemia at the time. They were already doing Sonny With a Chance at this time as well.

That’s very true. And at the time, they were introduced to multiple substances so the hoarseness and squeak in their voice was from a lot of strain on their body and mental health. They still had wild vocals and pulled through and I still have so much respect for that 😭
It could be all of those reasons. Horrible sleep schedule, bulimia as well as strain of tension on their body and mental health and smoking. All of that in general doesn't help with how they're going to sound in the end. Right?

During this movie Demi was actually struggling with Bulimia & unfortunately the excessive vomiting took a toll on their voice and overall health😓I have forever loved Demi and their voice has only gotten better with time! These movies would have been dead in the water without Demi😂and even with their amazing vocals, the movies are INCREDIBLY cringy!! Great reaction video Hannah💕

Wasn't the first Camp Rock worse?
Demi's voice was actually having some complications here, yes. They had a bad bulimia situation going on at this time, which was the source of much of the weird vocal moments you mentioned. For more clear examples, listen to Skyscraper, recorded at around the same time as this. Demi went into a treatment facility after recording it and supposedly recorded it again after, with a cleaner voice, but they decided to keep the original recording in the end because it more clearly reflected the pain and struggles they wanted to express with it. The vocals there are full of the same issues you mentioned here, with the breaks and cries, and the airiness and even hoarseness in some notes
The girl was on drugs, bulimia is only the effect

Demis hoarse voice is partly because at the time they were (and they’ve said this in interviews) going from the first Camp Rock to Sonny, made an album, went on a tour for their first album, went to do the second Camp Rock, Princess Protection Program, album, tour, tour for the movie, and had their bulimia on top of all that which was worse after their first tour. Definitely contributed to the hoarseness of their voice in this film. Watching this back I’m going through and reliving the what’s what edition and I’m loving it hahahaha
OMG. Yep, makes sense, totally checks out. Vomiting from bulimia, horrible sleep schedule, getting her voice barely any breaks from singing so much, smoking; damn; I'm cringing so hard out of empathy for them and their self-sabotage. That is so sad, I feel so bad for Demi. I hope that they is doing better now and doing well.

@@00AgentKrabie they've said they're doing well now. they're actually preparing to release a new pop rock album. but, yes, their childhood was riduled with suffering. it is heartbreaking. they were a child and had no idea how to cope with their trauma, had no idea what it was that they were suffering from (mental illness. they were diagnosed with bipolar but recently got re diagnosed with adhd). and no one helped them, people only put more pressure on them. and for some reason they're the one who's blamed for their self harmful decisions. 💔

the only part of camp rock 2 that stuck with me this long is nick's song "introducing me" particularly the line about how the moon looks like toenail. now whenever I see the moon as a skinny cresent this song comes to mind and I start singing it in the car and it gets stuck in my head for a day or 2.
So many times when I'm procrastinating I start "I'm, good at wasting time..." and then end up performing the whole song :D
Starstruck is also a fairly good dcom to watch (my opinion). I liked Sterling Knight too much xD or maybe you can do the cinderella story series (not disney). The first one isn't based on singing though but all the rest has singing and dancing even the christmas one with Laura Marano.

In the extended version of camp rock 2 Demi sings a song called different summers its amazing you should definitely watch that as well its easily one of the better songs in this movie
One of the reasons I never really got into the JoBros back in the day is because of their vocals. I always felt like they were straining their voices too much and it didn’t sound organic. They got much better with time though & I think they are crushing it nowadays!

When I was a kid I totally convinced myself that the stakes were whichever camp lost had to close down… Kinda wish that’s what they actually did.
Those might not literally have been the terms of the competition, but they did kinda portray it that way, tbf. Camp Rock was convinced that if Camp Star won, everyone would sign up to go there instead of Camp Rock next year, and without enough campers, Camp Rock _would_ have to close down

My friend and I once broke into song (the Phineas anf Ferb theme) while we were alone in a public bathroom. So every now and then when one if us is in a bathroom, the other one will start singing it from outside at MAX VOLUME to scare the other. When you and your friend break into song at random times...That's how you know it's real ✨😂

Nick and Demi were actually 17 during the filming of this. I know we tend to conflate actors ages with the year the movie releases, but I usually subtract a year from their age.
Fun fact about the final jam. It was filmed in Toronto in like the middle of winter. It was like -10° Celsius and everyone was putting on their winter coats in between takes
Thats not true. It was actually filmed in autumn. The one that was filmed in the middle of winter was the first Camp Rock.

Ok, it’s so odd that I know this, BUT the dancer from High School Musical you mentioned, her name is Sabra Johnson. She was on season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance and she won! She was 19 when she danced in HSM in 2006 and she was 20 when she was on SYTYCD the following year! I only know this because I remembered they talked about it on SYTYCD! lol I have no clue if she’s also the dancer in Camp Rock! 😂

Camp Rock 2 was actually filmed in the winter. During Demi and Joe’s duet you can actually see their breath at some points, and so production actually had them lip sync while breathing in!

Yes! I grew up as a theatre kid in a household where my parents HATED musicals, they despised DCOMs, but for some reason they didn't hate Rags! 😂 I watched it so much as a kid.

I have a core memory of watching the camp rock movies during a behind the scenes special where little cards would pop up with BTS facts, like the bus was emptied out to be lighter, or that Shane wasn’t supposed to fall in the bush in the first one. I cant watch it without those popping in my head.
