      Thanks for the information. This trap is built for California. I really do appreciate the information. Thank you.

    Since it has been brought to my attention by a viewer I will address this. Always check the regulations in the state and area you live. This trap is made for California regulation. Other states won’t allow this type of trap. Thank you for the information 99neworleans.

      I've been searching (and will continue doing so, though I am certain I once knew) the regs for trap regs for Iowa. But I know in some states they will treat you like committed the worst felony imaginable if your traps aren't up to code lol.

    Big Hawaiian punch type bottles might work as your float instead of 2 literally bottles. They have the rectangle handle so you don't need to compromise the air in the bottle. My father in law uses one with chicken, string and a hook to catch the snapping turtles in his pond.

      That could work as well. I used the ones I had on hand. They work great. I actually have another video coming out for an update on these traps.

    Tuck the rope on the trap end back through itself 3 times if you don't know how to splice. Then you do not need a ZIP tie or heat shrink. After using our traps a few times, we did not get many crawfish? When we swam over the trap lines, we found 50-100 chewing on the lines which had been contaminated with the smell of bait by keeping them in the trap as you do. Bad idea. We now use a short loop to tie to on the trap and keep the line in a clean bucket during transport. Our traps fold open at the center so they nest for storage and transport.

      That’s great advice. I haven’t had many problems with mine doing that but I can definitely see that happening.

    Grand trap design. Thanks for sharing. I plan on building about 6 of these tomorrow when dollar tree opens up,with a few minor modifications. Will let you know how it goes.

    A hangman’s knot would also work for securing the rope to the trap, and then you don’t have to use the shrink tubing and zip ties. I personally use the same knot when putting on a hook or swivel on my fishing rod. And another thought, Dollar tree also sales paracord that is a little stouter than that plastic rope.

    • @sftreeltalk6050
      @sftreeltalk6050  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like that idea, it would help to be able to remove the rope.

    Good idea. Crawfish are plentiful and can be found in nearly any body of fresh water whether stream, pond, or lake. If SHTF, this kind of stuff can help you survive.

    Caught a bunch of Dad’s last week on the homemade trap…. I suspended a box inside for the bait so the dad’s have to crawl inside to get to the bait… I also used the top of a bottle as a cone on each end…. it worked… thanks for the video!

    Hey was just wondering, what do you think about pillow traps? Would they work as good as these cylinder traps?

    • @unknownusr2330
      @unknownusr2330 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pillow traps are good for setting by hand so the hole isn't the wrong way. But if you don't know how deep the water is or if you don't have waiters use a cylinder so it doesn't matter what side it lands on if you throw it out.

    • @sftreeltalk6050
      @sftreeltalk6050  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pillow traps work just as well if not better in some situations. These small cylinders are for smaller spots. You can also place these by hand if you choose to. I’ll be shooting a new video and show different ways of placing these.

    How about using some wire mesh from your local hardware store instead of all the chinese made plastic junk from the dollar store. Ya I get it, things are expensive. BUTT, if you just have a little patience and support your local stores and buy USA made materials, things will get better and cheaper in the future. Crayfish don't give a shit what your trap is made from, but you should.

    • @sftreeltalk6050
      @sftreeltalk6050  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These wire baskets are not plastic. They are wire baskets coated in a black plastic type paint. It’s not a matter of things being expensive either. It’s just a matter that you could make something on the cheap if you wanted to.

      Yes they do. It’s just easier to put your fishing ID number on the bottle.

  • @madjack821
    @madjack821 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s essentially 3/4 mesh right? Insanely retarded regulations here in AR.....we can only have a 2” opening.

    • @sftreeltalk6050
      @sftreeltalk6050  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry for the late response. I’m not sure on the measurements but you can always measure it at the store you get them from. The hole at the end is still pretty small. Nice part is you can customize it so that it fits regulations.

    That's a cool trap, but it wouldn't be legal in Washington State, but with Rot Cord instead of the bread tie, it would be legal.. That's for sharing this trap.

    • @sftreeltalk6050
