I am from Mississippi and my wife is from Louisiana. We live in Tennessee and our 12 year old at the time had an assignment for school to build a crawfish trap to capture invasive species. I was on it! I love sharing our culture.
Man there ain’t nothing better than enjoying the outdoors, meeting new friends while doing so, and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Keep up the good job and stay safe on your travels
Great video...I grew up in Central Texas (bass fishing area)...in 1959 I started the 1st grade at St. Bernard, La. close to where you are at Campo's Marina...in 2010 the company I worked for in Dallas got a levee/rebuild reinforcement job just north of you on Lake Borgne (first time I had been back to south Louisiana since '59)...the flys and knats were unbelievable...they were like teeth with wings...
BlueGabe. The crawfish died because they could not breathe because the oxygen in the water was depleted but if you set your trap with some of it sticking out the water the Crawfish can also breathe air as long as their gills are wet. Check out the pillow trap design which is used in the swamp and the pyramid trap used in ponds, both designs stick out the water
Kelly, easiest way to back up a trailer: Put your dominate hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. You want the trailer to go right? Move your hand/wheel to the right (counter clockwise). Want the trailer to go left? Move your hand/wheel to the left (clockwise). Once you do this enuf it will come second nature & you can concentrate on other things like, keeping the tires in your lane, etc. Im an unusual woman with unusual skills for a woman, I fly, ride a Harley & Design America's Elec Dist Grid. Hope this helps you. Great Vids of LA, one of my FAV places! 👍
Hey Gabe! My day gets made when you upload! Thank you sir for everything you do! I love the videos and I would love to be doing some of the things that you do! Keep up the amazing work! God Bless!!!
2 THINGS.......#1: I would LOVE to go there some time.......and #2: That little dog Red Neck has got to be the most entertaining dog on youtube, lol. I can hardly wait to see the rest of this series from you and Kelly.
I was told to leave part of the Trap out of water so they can get air. Don`t know how true this is because I`m here in Florida also and the Lake I live on I haven`t found many Crawfish. Enjoyed it Blue Gabe and Kelly.
Your trip on the barge was easy. In the 60's, We lived in northwest Tennessee. When we wanted to visit my uncle, in Northeast Arkansas, we had to cross the Mississippi River on a barge. I can remember riding on the barge, when it was so full, that they had my mother pull on the barge and put on the emergency brake, because the trunk was hanging off. They had to pull the chain under the back of the car, behind the back tires.
I lived in St. Bernard right before Katrina. I've been down to that dock pulling mullets out of nets. Great to see it again, and know it's still thriving.
Your shows be amazing I see alot of others that copy your show u the original to me keep making us laugh have fun n keep teaching that outdoor life of fun
I lived below Venice as a youngster -hand catching crawfish at night was the thing to do when a crawfish migration was happening-sometimes traffics would have to stop on major highways as people were running around filling up ice chests-the unique life of people living and working on the river and bayous and lakes should never be underestimated -even Katrina or any other storms can make us move
Hey Gabe !!! Love the vlog style vids. No one does them nearly as well as you. Thanks for what you and that AWSOME lady do. I’ve been around from the early days and your vid’s only get better each time.
Awesome video BLUE GABE. this one brings back memories. I spent a year in NEW ORLEANS. 1982 and 3. The first time I pulled my service truck and trailer with ditch witch on it. Onto the Ferry I was freaking out too. So cool. I loved the crawfish but I didn't do the head part lol. Wash them down with cold beer yumm
Super cool looking crawfish! It'd be cool to keep a couple & set em up n a small freshwater aquarium with some small rocks on bottom, some plants, then some bigger rocks or wood to hide in/under!
Gabe, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and my favorite ones are the ones y’all are with the boys and redneck and of course with Kelly… You kids make such a beautiful couple, Kelly is definitely your best other half and I CANNOT WAIT for the wedding, well maybe 🤔 you could think about giving that beautiful young lady a ring 💍 and she’s so good with the boys and you can see all the love between them… Boy, I haven’t commented in a long time but I always hit the like 👍🏼 button… Sending y’all love and blessings from Pennsylvania 🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️
Gabe, Glad you finally got some good crab pots. Been crabbing in Chesapeake bay my whole life, and these are what you need. Don't be disappointed when they don't catch a lot right off. They need to be in the water for a couple weeks to get the new "stink" off of 'em. Look forward to some good crabs for steaming!!! Best Crab Seasoning...: 1 part Old Bay, to 1 part Kosher Salt, to 1/4 part ground red pepper. mix and sprinkle heavily as you layer them in the steam pot for cooking.
We boil crabs on the gulf coast…..which puts the seasoning inside the crab where it belongs, not on the outside of the shell. I’m not knocking steamed crabs though, had plenty in Virginia and Maryland and they were good. Excellent crab cakes as well. I prefer boiled seafood because it’s what I grew up eating. Folks on the Chesapeake grew up eating steamed crabs and that’s what they like. Blue crabs are awesome either way!
Buddy worked on an oil rig down in Venice and invited me down for a weekend of fishing and shrimping. Great time and some of the best fishing in the states is right there.

Nicely done Leave part of the trap above the water line and they won’t drown We lived in Baton Rouge for a year or so last time the construction industry had a slow down here in north Texas I love that area and the “muddy water “ surely got down in our blood even more that before ( you can see that in the places we try to go in our videos ) Thanks for all you do and let’s get after em
I'm in Seattle Washington and those dungy traps are great. It's great to see that even people up here are connected to there. I'm gonna Google his shop and maybe get some crab or shrimp traps. Thanks for the upload.
Thank-you for sparking a memories. Grew up in New Orleans. as kids we used to catch crawdads in the drainage ditches using a piece of kite string and whatever bait we could get. Chicken necks, ham bones or even a piece of bacon. Great way to spend an afternoon.
We have a little skiff that we’re going fishing in early tomorrow morning to catch some red belly’s and we also have a 19ft Carolina skiff that we go salt water fishing In . Love your videos 😂😂😊
Cruise Ships also go through the Mississippi as well. Just watched a video from M Hood Fishing in New Orleans where a Cruise Ship was passing by while he was pulling in Big Blue Cats! Lol. That River is a huge wonder of the South!
When we set crawfish traps we usually tie them to a tree where the crawfish can climb to the top of the trap out of water. Don't know if you have to but that's how I was taught.
I have a 2500 HD Duramax also. I absolutely love that truck. And I think it is the sharpest looking truck out there. My dad used to have us kids sein net road ditches like that here in Nebraska while he had a beer. But he did the cooking.
Gabe you got some good eating right there brother. Gotta say it you are putting out some great videos just like your brother Rob So is Kelly. Keep it up. I'm actually looking for some property in the Stewart Jupiter area to move to. Love both fishing and hunting. Hopefully once I'm down there I'll get to meet up with all you guys. And maybe you and Rob can stear stear me towards a good place to get a boat. Grew up fishing both in Norway working on my families fishing boats and also working on fishing party boats and also fishing around the New York New Jersey area. First off that truck's a beauty . Second I get a little worried about you and Kelly burning the candle at both ends . I used to drive instate rigs and out of state and caffeine has real fast off switch . One minute you feel " okay " then LIGHTS OUT . I thought I was indestructible and could go for a couple of days with no sleep . Then about 3 am one morning I felt a big bump and it was me flying over the center median and skidding to the shoulder on the wrong side . Once again God was looking out for his favorite knucklehead ( me ) and the highway was empty . All I had to do was drive back to the right side and let my heart out of my throat . I would rather you miss a day working ...get some sleep and be safe . I really don't mean to lecture . I just know how lucky I was . We would much rather you be careful and live to film another day . PK
in the 1950's, my Grandfather took me crawfishing North of Laplace on Hwy 61 (to Baton Rouge). We'd drop those nets in the drainage ditches next to road, and almost as quickly as they were placed, he'd go to the other end and start hauling up tons of mudbugs. These were the wire hoop topped nets, picked up with a strong cane pole, the bait held onto the bottom with a huge safety pin. When all the hamper baskets were full, we went home to purge, rinse and boil. Uum uum good.

You have to leave part of the trap out of the water so they can some up for air! Also, if it has 3 leaves, leave it be!!
You're exactly right, Brandy! That ditch doesn't have much oxygen and the crawdads will die if they can't get air over their "gills".
Looks like what we call itch weed.
No, crawfish don't breath from the atmosphere. They have GILLS, just like fish.
