This is the full review of the very affordable electric scooter - The NIU NQI GTS PRO.
This has to be one of the best city commuters ever built. Great for everyday A to B city riding.

We stuck a shad 29 top box on both our NQI Sport and my wife’s MQI+ along with panniers and shopped a full shop at Morrison’s and Lidl. Amazing! But this is why it worked. I have the space under the seat for the second battery, but only have the one under the floor. So that’s about 19 litres of shopping space gained. I also put tool kit, can tyre weld, Oxford monster chain/lock, gloves, two disc locks in there when not shopping. So bloody versatile bikes. Made for city commuting. I’ve done 200 miles in two weeks

thanks for the video and real life test. had a look at one today with the 29ah battery in but may just go for the newer 35ah battery bike. what is it like on the hills? do you have to use sport mode all the time for these?
Did you see the first ride video? The other modes are useless so just leave it in sport. Up hills is fine up to 40mph. Yes I think the 35ah bike is the minimum you want and will be right up to date then.
@@exeterrider not seen the first one but yeah, may be the way ahead. can easily use the standard mode just commuting, then use sport for the longer stretches in the big smoke of Plymouth i.e. embankment road. ok will see about obtaining one :)
@@minimad8793 yes, eco will only go to 15mph, and standard to 30mph, might aswell just leave in sport. Big smoke a! I'm down there sometimes for the bmws. If you have any other questions just give me a shout 😉👍also watch the first ride vid, it shows a bit more filtering etc👍🍻

Nice little scooter, although not quite enough range for me, as I would need a minimum of an 80 mile range. Another disadvantage of this one is that there is no under seat storage, as it's taken up by batteries, so it's crying out for a rear rack to come standard with the bike from new. I know motorbikes very rarely have any storage with them, other than the NC, which I have, and have, therefore, become accustomed to it. I think that one of the main reasons people buy scooters is because they have all that useful storage.
I, also, have a Suzuki Burgman 200, and that's the main reason I bought it. Maybe, NIU should consider putting a rear rack and a decent sized top box on it from new and, maybe, restyling it, for the next generation with some built in storage.
Well done with the review BTW, particularly the bit to camera with all those people walking past you. Did you get a lot of interruptions from them asking you what you were doing.
I think you know - but I used to have a burger 650years ago. You can get backboxes from NIU. Yes this walkaround was completed with a old couple walking by and decided to sit right opposite the camera and stare at me which was a bit odd.....walkrounds are always a knitemare mate for so many reasons....I should do what the others do and just do it via the helmet cam but I want to make it my own . Getting mine next week. Thanks for the review. The 2022 version comes with the new Niu motor not Bosch so I'll see how that pans out. It is 4600 so the power will defo come in handy as here in Malaga there are some steep hills to climb.

@@exeterrider according to the dealer here the technology behind the motor is not patented and in true Chinese fashion they copied it and made it more powerful. Niu also bought the second largest battery company in China and they are now making the batteries themselves too. So basically the bike is now 100% their own.
Living in Seychelles, riding a 113 Yamaha Ray ZR petrol scooter. Indian made, good quality. Tempted to go electric....temp never below 25°C and range not a prob here. Torn between this one and a TVS I-Qube from India......

Does the charger fit under the seat? (minus the splitter of course) If I wanted to charge the batteries after reaching my destination? I'm not keen on that power bar on the display. Getting flashbacks of the 'clapometer' on Opportunity Knocks.
No it dosent for under the seat. Clapometer😂they should fit one of those in every young party town😂🎉
Seems to be the first truly practical electric scooter on the market! TH-camrs in the states are getting 50 mph on sport mode too🏁
I think they are rescrited... Yes incredibly practical, shame about no storage but as a every day city commuter its perfect!

Just got mine one week ago.... fantastic little scooter, and super for normal life. I find that it charges faster than was suggested in the video. The last 5% though (95 -100%) is quite slow. Still, I agree with the other commenters, that with all this electric scooters. The ONLY handicap, is the speed of charging. Personally, I prefer electric to petrol scooters, but even with a 50 cc scoot, it is possible to do days out and longer trips now and again, especially in good weather, purely because you can fill up anywhere, and it only takes a few minutes. And, of course, there are almost no public charging posts with normal plugs, which a scooter can use. Once the problem of charging is solved, petrol scooters will be dead in the water.

Niu is releasing a hybrid gas electric moped scooter this year. The other way is to charge at any lunch or dinner area for 1 hr while you are eating. You can remove the batteries
many years ago I had a lambretta LD 150 which had the headlight fixed in the forward position like that ...it's much better having the headlight on the handlebars..pointing exactly where you are going.

Very interesting, but with all electric vehicles these days the down time while waiting for your batteries to charge puts me off.
I watched Long Way Up recently, and i was very impressed with the range and capability of the bikes that Harley Davidson supplied for the show but again, once the bikes had hit 0 charge there was a 7 hour wait wherever they were for the bikes to be ready again.
I'm not apposed to electric but i hope that faster charging batteries are being developed, I did read somewhere that they were working on a charged gel, the theory was you would empty out the discharged gel to be recharged and fill up with freshly charged gel at a recharge station, but I've not heard anything about it lately or if it is indeed not just pie in the sky.

Just stumbled over this review. One Question. How do the chinese rubbers perform in dry and wet?
Not too bad, thing is it's hard to test a tyre, because the only way you find it on a bike like this is to push it till you fall off.
@@exeterrider thy for your replay. I own the NIU N1S and the tyres on that scooter were really bad in wet (wheel slip on full throttle at an intersection). Also on dry roads I had little confidence. Even the road markings made the ride sloppy and wiggling. So I changed to Michelin City Grip. Now riding is fun and safe too. But I want to upgrade to the faster NIUs.

Nice little commuter tool. Especially useful in this current climate. Never owned an electric bike or scooter, but blimey was taken aback a bit by the insurance cost 😳. No doubt the insurance company came out with some cock and bull story why the premium was so high ! Another phrase for insurance....that is legalised theft.

Thanks mate- Yes it used to be worse but as with anything new - the prices are coming down. The issue really is the insurance companies don't know what these bikes are.

Its a power bar, so the more its lit the more power your using. 3:18
I have one as well and you don't change the indicator noise via the App; it's done via the indicator switch. Please correct me if I am wrong because I can't find where on the App to change it.

Nop, that would be a top box or backpack job.
The Vespa Elettrica 70km version (43mph) has linked brakes, but the 45km (28mph 50cc equivalent) doesn’t have linked brakes - so potentially this requirement only kicks in when the vehicle is capable of a higher speed.

@@exeterrider Great video! I’ve had a car licence for awhile, but I’m doing my CBT on the Niu NQI GTS Pro on Wednesday to unlock my full moped licence (as car licence was after 2001).

@@JakeM218 : How did you find the CBT, did they cater for electric mopeds? I did my one on a petrol moped (that’s what they had) and got a Niu electric moped, took me a while to get used to the difference between how I was trained and how the electric one operates (e.g. you can’t apply power with the brake applied). Funny enough my main reason for doing the CBT was for that moped entitlement (but now I really want a “proper” motorbike, I’m getting jealous of the bikers overtaking me at 30mile/h lol)
@@fetchstixRHD I still haven’t actually ridden a petrol moped as yet! I found the CBT great, and the self cancelling indicators were a great help.
For the manoeuvres, the instructor said it would be best to leave the bike in eco, and I only got into the quicker modes out on the road.
I’ve since bought a Vespa Elettrica second hand. I really love the convenience of plugging it in and avoiding petrol stations, but I have found a marked difference in performance in the cold weather. Looking on the app, it runs about 1000w down on power when it’s 5c. On a hill near where I live, I could maintain 29 on the Speedo up the hill (Speedo tops out at 31mph) during the summer. But during the Winter this has dropped to 22 on the Speedo at the top of the hill!
Sometimes before I go out, I’ll charge the battery for 15 minutes, and this seems to add a bit of warmth and give me an extra bit of power, but apparently lithium batteries don’t like cold weather!
30mph has been great in an area with lots of traffic, but I only stick to 30mph roads. In this sense, I’ve never felt pressured or even overtaken - but the flip side is I want to explore more areas and have longer adventures… but I’ve reached the limit of where I can reach on 30mph roads! I still can venture between villages, one big city and one town on only 30mph roads though!
I’ve recently discovered that the whole of Guernsey has a 35mph top speed and very narrow roads. Most speed limits are 25mph - and I think this would be a great place for an adventure! There’s a ferry from Portsmouth, but I don’t think I can get there without some National speed limit roads, which I’m hesitant to do!
Part of me has now considered a 125cc, but it feels like such a backwards step after electric. I’m not an “eco warrior”, I bought the bike for the silence and convenience. The fact that servicing is pretty much non existent. It feels high tech and modern.

Seems like they almost got it perfect but 45mph limit doesn't make sense to me. Would rather it's 50mph so you don't hold up traffic in a 50. Also don't like the indicator sounds, are the other noises on the app more acceptable?
It was a press bike so I couldnt get the app. But yes , the thing is if it were 50 top speed then people would want 60. Its great for around town though :)
Assuming that 45mile/h is really the conversion of 70km/h (similar to how moped 28mile/h is really 45km/h). Not sure whether 70km/h is a common European limit though?
@@fetchstixRHD UK limits are in mph. I understand that the limits may well be set in kph. I can’t really comment because I have never owned a motorbike or scooter (I have done my CBT) but there are a lot of roads that are 50mph. I probably wouldn’t want to take this on national speed limit (60) or motorways. Not sure how this would be at 50mph but the reason I’m suggesting 50 is due to the fact that there are so many roads that are 50 so just that extra 5mph would open up a lot more routes, granted you could still use them but it wouldn’t be as safe.
@@oliverpolden: Can agree on higher speed being more useful to be fair: riding at the 30mile/h on a moped will still get you overtaken (and trying to keep many urban 20mile/h speed limits is a request for people dangerously overtaking you) - both from personal experience!
I would guess that assuming the Highway Code 11kW output for A1 bikes applies to electric motorbikes too, I don’t see it impossible to design a bike that’s even 60mile/h capable in terms of motor output, though on the battery side, I wonder how much more energy it would cost them? (I’m also demonstrating the point that you’ll always get people wanting higher speeds, but from what I’ve seen in London, the highest speed limit you’ll find generally tends to be about 50mile/h until you get quite far out/on the motorways, so that’d be a fair compromise point. Not sure on EU regulations and how they classify bikes, though!)
NIU MQi GT Evo will do 60mph so you could take a look on that one, it will release quite soon.

And yes, they have the potential to still do a wheely doing 35/40.
Also 0-60 time under 4sec.

Can you use the scooter with only one of the batteries?
Yes but it will limit it to 29mph.
There’s issues with the mirrors coming loose and the rear tail lights bending.
I had no issues with the mirrors but the rear number plate came off but only because of me pushing it in the garage and hitting a piece of wood🤣👍
The mirrors can be really awkward. There’s a certain way they’re set up which took ages to get my head around (had them fall off while I was riding and thought that I’d have to pay out for their replacement!)

Blimey, the battery prices 😮 if you broke it down separately, batteries, charger and motor, the rest of the bike is virtually free.
Yeap- Its clever tech in those battery's and the price reflects that. Infact any electric bike the battery's are generally a third of the bikes cost.
Does it use both batteries at the same time?
You can just use one but it's limited to 30mph and limits the range dramatically.
@@exeterrider Yes, I know that, I just wanted to make sure both batteries are used at the same time when connected, because that should make the batteries live a little longer, since that means that each cell only needs to deliver half the current, which in turn should mean less heat and less damage.

I can see that things are tipping towards electric power nowadays, but a few years ago i had the 125 Honda Innova scooter, i loved the little thing! But......it was rather slow, and car drivers treat you like you shouldn't be on the road, giving little regard to you as a rider and jepardising your safety. When i say slow, it would get to 55mph, not much more. I think a scooter like this NIU with a limit of 44/45mph is not enough to safely keep up with the flow of modern day traffic, as much as i'd love one, it would need to be capable of sustaining 60mph which would give it a much wider appeal to motorbike riders on todays roads.
Yes I feel much the same way mate. I found my self really wanting to buy one but I just wanted it to look more motorbike like and I could portobello live with the topspeed but yes 60mph is the sweet spot 👍💯

Not at all mate, your entitled to your opinion... Yes - it is nice having no sound aswell. It does offer something nicely different but yes it's niche TBH. Massive in western Europe though.
It’s also cracking for no servicing costs, no fuel,oil or chains or unreliable starting to deal with or the fact you can keep it in the house - it’s electric therefore not combustible. So security is A1. We have two in the house. When winter comes, it’s kept in a fully warm dry environment and the car will be used. No brainer. MOT is a joke - yes it’s classed as a 125cc or the 50cc moped market. So it’s licensed,insured and from new doesn’t require an MOT for 3 years. 2years warranty on the bike, 3 years on the battery from official NIU stores - 800 charges = approx 25,000 miles. I can’t be arsed with the CBT stuff when city driving, I live in Edinburgh, is 20-30mph same for a lot of London. Only on bypass/motorway do you ‘open up’ but then that’s the same with a small car.
Most commutes for city people is stupidly low and spent crawling, so what if you can sometimes filter, it’s still limited speeds. Plus your burning fuel sitting waiting. Then we have the future just around the corner when petrol will become like gold in price. Once ICE diminish in 9 years time it will be stupidly impractical to run anything ICE inc servicing costs. Electric will take over or hydrogen, but fossil fuels are dead environmentally.
It’ll just be queues of battery vehicles instead 😂 😂
