I wonder the same and even more so the battery life it has. I have a scwalhbe airmax pressure gauge and that battery dies waaaaaaaayyy to fast. Like I put in a new battery, use the gauge, put it away and the next time I wanna use it not even a month later it's already dead again. Stopped using it as well those button cell batteries don't come cheap.
Pretty sure its the "Tune" button, for anyone reading comments about this. I use it when I get to the top of a climb to drop to my preferred pressure for the descent. Accurate air pressures have made my riding experience much more consistent. I get the same feel each ride/run, unlike the finger-pressure-test-guess. And, going 'too low' has consequences where I ride.
Yeah, you beat me to that. I will also mention that my first one became so erratic that I tossed it. My second one gives an erratic reading maybe one out of five times. There must be a better gauge.
I have the Topeak pressure gauge. It works great, highly recommend. It will update in real time while bleeding. There is a separate button to enable that (top left, looks like a spiral).
Actually the Topeak Pressure gauges does update in real time when you deflate the tire. You just need to press the "tune" button before deflating: the display starts to blink, and the reading is updated in real time.
Ronald Tartaglia A few months ago someone stole my bike, I had my helmet on it and they didn’t steal it, it was a $60 giro helmet. Weird that they didn’t, but not complaining.
If I saw your Giro helmet readily available to steal, you'd probably come back to find I'd left another 3 of the same model beside it, or I'd give you my Bell Super 3 so you can stay just as miserable. I'm yet to own a helmet I actually like.
The way you use a clug, low with both wheels on the ground, is great. I've had two bikes fall, though, mounting front wheel high. These were road bikes with narrow tires, which may be more susceptible to losing the grip as the tires slowly lose air.
I watch a lot of TH-cam videos and I love the way you do product reviews. Don't get me wrong I love all your videos, but can't wait to see more of your take on products.
As somebody who bought a Fabric water bottle last year, so far the durability has been well worth the price. I’ve been riding more and more difficult trails on my new hardtail in the last month and a half and it still holds up just fine. Granted the bottle itself isn’t huge so that can be a limiting factor, but otherwise it’s a total steal.
Bought the clug. Mounted it to my sprinter bumper. Love it- hate it when people kick it and ask- “what’s that for?” Also bot the overpriced chain you recommended- love it. And the chain tool. Thanks so much for the video. 🤘
Hi Seth, thanks for this great vid. I have the topeak minitool without the bottle cage and I think you can loosen up the screws that hold it together for making it easier to flip the bits out. I remember you can do it with the included chaintool so you dont need any other tool. Sorry if its bad englisch, i'm from Germany. Keep up the good work!
Hey seth just wanted to say I just found your channel yesterday and I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos since then. I’m really stoked that I found it because I just got back into mountain biking after not riding since I was around 12. Just moved back home after being in the Marines so my 3 month son can grow up around his family, I’ll definitely be taking him out mountain biking when he’s older. I can’t believe I took so much time off.
Ha ha, I've got real hair from my cat balled into a little disk for sound. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks just like what you have on yours. P.S. My cat isn't dead.
This video has a lot of growth potential. I see a firm upshot of views. The length of it is also impressive, longer than average. My girlfriend was impressed.
Tip for the Topeak Mini 20: Cut out a small rectangular piece of electrical tape and put it around one allen key (the middle one), now you have a tab to pull out the key (and the others normally come along by friction)
Cool trick: you don't need a chain tool to snap in the master link. Just hold the rear brake and torque the crank arm. The chain will engage and pull the master link into place.
I have an old-school Topeak Power 21 that's 20yrs old & JUST broke...the chain tool. (Lost the wire to hold chain in place - easily replaceable with a piece of wire hanger!) I found a whole replacement tool (minus the wire) for less than 15 bucks. One of my best purchases ever! (And all I really have to replace is the part that screws in & pushes the pin!)
For strapping things I use a fabric dog collar. Cheap, highly adjustable and easy to clean. Also don't waste your money on digital pressure gauges. Analog will always be more accurate and will last longer.
The Topeak does have a live pressure update setting for use while bleeding. Press the upper black button and the display will start to flash. When you bleed in this mode, the pressure will constantly update and you get an exact reading each time you let off on the bleed button. I used this feature today. I run plus tires, so the pressures are low and need to be accurate, and the Topeak is better than practically all floor pumps for this. I keep one and a good hand pump in my gear bag. That combo is far less bulky and more accurate than a floor pump
+1 on the Topeak digital gauge. My Fabric water bottle has held great for over a year including runs down Greens Lick and Kitsuma. It's design just doesn't work well for quick swigs while riding. Too hard to remount without looking. For GoPro mic noise their "Windslayer" works AMAZINGLY well. Doesn't fit for gimbal users but everyone else I highly recommend.
The pressure gauge is great! I love mine. And if you press the 'tune' button the pressure DOES update in real time. The screen will flash and the pressure reading goes down when you let air out. I have to do a long road climb to get to my local trails so I like to run higher pressures when I leave the house and then take pressure out when I get to the trails.
Hey seth im a new fan of the channel recently i fell of my track bike and broke my elbow i missed two of my rowing reggatas and your videos cheered my up i cant wait to get back to mtb and track.
I got the mountain bike tool/bottle cage. It is really good value. It saved me from a long walk home when my derailleur met my spokes last weekend, and was extremely effective with every tool I used on it
Instead of reusable zip ties, I use Velcro cable ties to secure cables and what not. Find them at the hardware store. The kind that has a hole on one end to interlock VERY securely
"If you helmet has this on it and someone else's doesn't, they'll steal someone else's.... ...and then they'll steal yours" More accurate description of that product
It's generally true that for crimes of opportunity, thieves will go for the thing that is easiest to steal, and in this example, it is far easier and less conspicuous to casually walk by and grab an unsecured helmet than to draw attention to yourself by cutting a security strap.
Great vid; the Hiplocks are used often here in the Uk, they’re to secure you’re bike whilst it’s still in view of you I.e at a coffee shop (outside), or a burger truck, or checking out some trail you can’t take your bike down, but can still see the bike in view. Little piece of mind I....
Hey Seth i just wanted to tell you how happy i am, i just got a new job (i'm 14) at a local bike shop, i was lucky enough to get this job and after 90 days i can get any Bike in store for 50% off, any recommendations on Giant and or Santa Cruz Bikes ( i currently ride a BMC Speedfox SF 02) cant wait to hear from you!!
Santa cruz. The free bearings for life are worth it, and they have a lifetime warranty. Get a Hightower or HTLT. If you're on a budget, the aluminium Nomad is a sick bike, can handle anything and everything.
The Smart Gauge does actually update in real time as you hit the bleed valve. You have to press top button to get it to work before you start the bleed process, and yes there is a tiny bit of a lag to it but its perfectly acceptable. I love it and have been using it for a few years now. I like it cause my old man eyes have trouble seeing that tiny numbers on the gauge of my pump and its more accurate. As always good video.
A tip, the topeak pressure gauge can update the pressure in realtime, press the button with the white dot and it will beep and start update values in realtime :-) Thats how I use mine!
Lovely hacks! just a trick for topeak pressure gauge users: press the button with the white spot. When the numbers on display start to blinking, press the yellow button to bleed out. The pressure value on the screen will update in real time.
A cool hack I found is taking the crap grips that come standard with bikes and cutting them down the middle on one side. Then I zip tied them to my chainstay. Works perfect! Hardly and noise too!
The point of the hiplock is low weight, compact dimensions and ease of use. It's literally meant for nothing more than preventing a random person walking away with your bike while you're inside a gas station getting supplies or taking a dump. When you need a lock this compact, it doesn't really matter how it's constructed, it's theft protection will be pretty much the same. For a regular MTB rider it may not sound like a great idea, but for the roadie and gravel crowd who do whole-day rides without a backpack, it's precisely the thing they want and need. Personally been using a couple of locks like this myself for this very purpose. For commuting, I have an actual security lock, but it's too heavy and bulky for my gravel rides.
8:21 The only time I needed a 10mm hex so far was when I removed a kickstand from a vintage trecking bike. So I guess if you see someone on a trail with a kickstand and you rush to save them from it, this counts as an emergency tool!
I use mineral wool (inner wall insulation) and self adhesive velcro (i trim them in pretty much the same shape as the adhesive gasket of that thingie in the vid) for wind covers. This will last a bunch and you can get mineral wool trimmings for free and 3M velcro for like two bucks, the velcro will stay there pretty much forever and the wool is virtually free to replace and on top of that it's hydrophobic and fireproof.
Hey I got a cheap replacement for the mic covers on the GoPro. You can get fake moustaches and cut them and stick them on the mic holes they work just as well and you get like 8 moustaches in a pack for less an £1
When I get a steel frame set I'm getting that fidlock bottle set up. I think it's genious. I first saw it here I think. I recently watched a GCN video where they talked about it and I needed to see a more in depth video of it. Thanks.
Hey Seth, I have the Fidlock and wanted the One ⬆️ pump. I wasn’t sure the two would work together? I figured twisting off the bottle would hit the pump. Good to see this combo works. Great video 👍🏻
Thank you for all the dedication you put for videos! They are great and so fun to watch, I just started to mountain bike so your tips and tricks have helped a lot along the way
go to the hardware store and get like 2 meters of hose and a couple of U bolts (you use the hose to cover the U bolts so they don't scratch your stuff and also it prevents it from shifting around). Now you can attach a rifle if you wanted to.
the hiplock is what I would consider a "café lock" great for locking up at a busy café while you run inside, lightweight for the roadies, but not secure enough for extended storage. Also great for locking your snowboard while you grab a drink

On the Topeak smart gauge d2 you can push a button so it shows real time pressure when you are using the bleed valve. I have one and love it.
I noticed this right after publishing on Patreon, and added a note. You guys always fill in the blanks!
I should probably sign up to your patreon then haha
You mean just like the analog ones you can pick up for 3.99 at a gas station?
Pretty sure its the "Tune" button, for anyone reading comments about this. I use it when I get to the top of a climb to drop to my preferred pressure for the descent. Hey Seth, you usually run 20 in your mountain tires as seen in the video? Just curious.! Recently got the Topeak and love the precision!
The Topeak pressure gauge does update in real time, you just need to press the circle button :) your welcome!

Yeah, you beat me to that. I will also mention that my first one became so erratic that I tossed it. My second one gives an erratic reading maybe one out of five times. There must be a better gauge.

go to the hardware store and get like 2 meters of hose and a couple of U bolts (you use the hose to cover the U bolts so they don't scratch your stuff and also it prevents it from shifting around). Now you can attach a rifle if you wanted to.
the hiplock is what I would consider a "café lock" great for locking up at a busy café while you run inside, lightweight for the roadies, but not secure enough for extended storage. Also great for locking your snowboard while you grab a drink
