You missed the main point of the "what army should I play" question, when asked by WHFB vets. The assumption is that some armies are just trash, and some overpowered, so they're looking for guidance on what not to waste their money on. The beautiful thing is, Kings of War is balanced enough that new players can invest in any army and have something competitive and flexible enough to field various, effective, army styles.
Thank you for this video, admittedly I'll probably be watching it again once my rulebook arrives. I'm looking through Mantic's catalogue at the moment but I'm a little confused as to which models form The Herd. I did fancy the Night Stalkers but I'm not confident enough in my painting when it comes to doing them justice.
Herd don't have an official line from Mantic right now. There are some units that do within the list, such as the Centaurs, Lycans, and Earth Elementals. Because the game is miniature agnostic, you can really use anything from any lines to represent them. But Mantic does appreciate your support as often as you can get it so the game can continue to grow.
I agree 20,000 % , pick an army your passionate about whether it be because of their lore, it something you already collect, or just because you love the look of them! I collect goblins and Trolls from many different companies and have for some time. I haven't got into KOW yet but I'm going to very soon, I love the look of mantics goblins ( though the thought of building a vamp focused army also appeals to me!). Is mixing factions ever allowed? That's one thing I could never understand about many war games other than purely for balance. I mean if you were an evil overlord I think you would take whatever you could get whether it be gobs, orcs, giants, werewolves, or various undead . true you might have to separate them a hair but variety would be crucial. I wanted also say the way you described that feeling about finding " YOUR ARMY" is one of the most magical things a gamer can experience. I remember in the 90's getting my first night goblin ( who is still my favorite model to this day!), I didn't even play wargames back then as AD&D 2nd ed was my game and just about the only thing I could find a group for back then. I just knew deep down getting that little goblin that one day he would lead an army, it took me until last year but I have finally made that dream a reality! I look forward to adding a bunch of KOW models for him to command as well!
Could you do a video on the different factions flavors? As someone coming from Warhammer, I don't pick an army based on playstyle but who's lore I like the most
I think I need to get a little more familiar with each of them before I can make an accurate one. We should have some Vanguard videos soon. Jesse and I filmed one that turned out pretty bad so I've got to narrow down a good way to film them.
So, Basilea isn't for beginners to rank & flank / Kings of War? I was really liking Basilea and had a mind to paint them in some nice colors. Alternatively I was looking at doing an Undead army because I love skeletons, zombies, ghouls, vampires and necromancers (I was going to get into Soulblight Gravelords from GW before they spit on their fandom).
This video was made for 2nd edition Kings of War but now I would definitely say that both Basilea and Undead are beginner friendly. Both can play grind well with heals and solid "defense" and both can do heavy hitting. So perfect for hammer and anvil classic rank and flank.
The historical lines are vast, numerous and full of quality. Have you considered licensing lines and officially coworking with Perries, Warlord, etc? As you say "we" a lot there i assume you speak on behalf of Mantic. :)
Outside of Basileans I don't think Mantic is going to produce human based lines. Halflings, possibly. Those historical manufacturers are heavily displayed in our KoW Historical book. So no official licensing but we are happy to direct you to them, especially in that historical context. They do make great miniatures!
@@MasterCrafted, aye, my point exactly. :) the other is that for fantasy enthusiasts that would like to find models quick for starting a KoM or Rhordia army, for example, looking up the historical book might not even cross their minds. Most people do not have time, skills or energy to do research other than front Page skimming, and the possibilities are easily Lost to them if not spoon fed. Spoon feeding good. Its a question of accessibility - but i wont press the issue more, for sure, since i sincerely have all the faith in that you guys know what you are doing. :)
The RA value of a number of units went up and there are no longer piercing modifiers available. Shooting is still very effective but building a shooting army is not the easiest approach. It makes a great compliment to the army but is much harder to focus on solely as a strategy.
Piercing still exists as a rule but doesn't come as a modifier. So bane chant no longer grants piercing and there is no magical artifact upgrade that gives piercing to a unit. If the unit has it naturally, it's still there. Just no way to give, say, a horde of archers +1 piercing.
Maaaan I've been monetized the whole time. How else do you think we do those Christmas giveaways? Channel makes around $100 every year and a half and goes straight to that.

Those first night goblins were amazing. Not good to stand on one of the spearmen in bare feet, though.
Great insights Kyle! I like how you showed armies could have multiple facets across the categories :)!
Thanks for sharing, your channel is amazing!
I drove an hour and a half to the nearest stockist location on mantic website and they don't carry KOW products never have.
Maybe you will call next time, pretty big risk

Could you make a similar video for Kings of War Vanguard?
I think I need to get a little more familiar with each of them before I can make an accurate one. We should have some Vanguard videos soon. Jesse and I filmed one that turned out pretty bad so I've got to narrow down a good way to film them.

Where does Riftforged sit on your list?
I would get into this game but no one has heard of it in my parts, going to try to get some friends into it.
If you are smart and handsome I would recommend Elves. You'll fit right in.
Touché good Sir, touché.
I'm large and I smell bad so I picked orcs...
Big hats all the way, not stupid elves

I'm not sure I can agree with the idea that any faction can play any of those 4 styles. I challenge you to make a viable orc shoot list.
Maybe with allies.... But you are right
All of them
Hey! Hey! Didn't I comment in your last vid saying a new video every day!
How has 3rd edition changed shooting viability? I heard it’s slightly less effective.
The RA value of a number of units went up and there are no longer piercing modifiers available. Shooting is still very effective but building a shooting army is not the easiest approach. It makes a great compliment to the army but is much harder to focus on solely as a strategy.
Piercing is removed?
But that rule is in the quick start rules download.

Ok, thanks.
What kind of army should I play?
Go play sigmar noob :P
Wow and I thought this community was inviting!!!
If you like Eldar in 40k I think you would enjoy elves in KoW 🙂
@@belacbyull Wrong neighborhood essay!
I hear that the Herd is good. 😁
Kingoms
I should have watched this before picking Basileans :P
Ps you're wrong. Play halfling braves.
Now you have my attention
Look at you popular enough to monetise. Enjoy your 3 cents 😂

@@MasterCrafted That much 😂. We don't even bother with the amount of views we get. If only pudiepie would shout out us

Just a little pronounciation guide 😁
