VIEWERS OF THE MYFORDBOY! Who are you and why are you here? I'm an electrical engineer from Germany and have picked up general shop work as a hobby! I do a little woodworking, repairs and have since got into metalworking! I've bought and old CNC mill from the 80's that I'm giving some new life... I enjoy the peace and quiet in the videos - it's giving the skill and attention to detail in the work the room they deserve. Also always love a good pattern making and casting!
I have had a long-term fascination with steam engines. Late one night, I stumbled on a series of videos of Myfordboy machining and building a working model steam engine. I was hooked. I took some courses on machining at our local community college and became a hobby machinist. The Myfordboy Steam Engine was my first "serious" machining project. Building that project was one of the most satisficing things I've ever done. th-cam.com/video/UtisLh_H4d4/w-d-xo.html
I sell guns and whiskey to the Comanches- here's a tip; never sell bad whisky to the Comanches. I'm looking for a less risky way to earn a living, myfordboy seems to be doing O.K. and he still has his hair so...
i am a software and web developer, since i know about my self i had wish to smelt scrap metals and cast useful things out of them... had made one crude forge and made one tryout of it and casted simple rod, now i am building way better gas forge... i have FMD 3D printer and planning to buy SLA 3D printer soon and hope to make some castings for my projects... i am here to get inspired and to learn from others mistakes :)
My ford boy: I got tons of questions, but don’t wanna overwhelm you with petty stuff. I’ve decided to check out all your videos now because they’re answering a lot of it. Good content man. Thank you.
Hello friends. let us be grateful to our friend who posted this video sharing knowledge. It doesn't cost anything to like and make a simple comment. It is the least we can do in gratitude for his work. thank you!
I like your videos without talk & without that horrible musics too loud we usually have. Just the essential by writings. Thanks to your pedagogy of detailed examples I was able to make a little foundry by myself. Thank you so much and give us more of this unusual tram
Hi Myfordboy, yes - more Ellie please. But all your videos are awesome so it will be hard to tire of them regardless of the content. This video was especially satisfying because you took us through every stage from 3D printed pattern to finished part. What a great start to a Wednesday! Stay well. Mike
Sure would like to see more of Ellie. I have it up to the undercarriage stage but the wheels continue to lock up on me. I made the axles and cams twice and I have used a needle file on the linkages but it still jambs. I should have used lock screws to the cams instead I followed the instructions!
I've always been curious why you don't build a casting table. I'm not even sure where I got the design for mine, but it's basically a small sandbox on 4x4" legs, with a shelf under it for storage. There's a sliding work surface made of 2x2's that have gaps between them to allow excess sand to fall back into the bin. It works really nice, and saves the back and knees. :)
One of the few people I see doing casting wearing good protective gear. Surprised you did not sift in the first layer but them everything got machined.
Yes please, need to know more about your Ellie, You made the wheels and hey presto you had a frame, engine, boiler Wow. Did you buy any of it as a kit? And what does the electric gismo do on the front ?
Hi Silent Bob, Nice job on the wheels mate , A question please, why don't you use some parallels behind the wheels in the lathe chuck to Make set up easier on yourself? I don't know if you have come across "Windy Hill Foundry" yet in your travels around TH-cam He is into casting projects in cast iron using old disk brake rotors his whole starting to finished project is quite interesting in one of his videos that Abomb79 and Keith Rucker are in he shows the machine he Made!/uses to Break up the disks and so on I think you might find it interesting. Tony from Western Australia
The wheels are small so not much room for parallels but I did use a washer to the same effect. I tend not to watch other peoples casting videos I can do this myself.
@@myfordboy I saw you used a washer, the windy hill Foundry chanel he only casts iron projects from what I have seen so far, I just thought that might give you a few tips on maybe casting cast iron blocks etc for some iron steam engine projects in the future Learning new stuff is a hobby of mine and I intend to learn up Till and past my last breath if I can. So much to learn and hopefully put to use, so little time to learn it,! Tony from Western Australia.
Definitely like to see more of Ellie's build!

I thought it was illegal to sell firewater to Comanches. Has something changed since I last saw a Western movie?

A very nice engine. It looks like it can run on 32 or 45 mm track.
doing everything really well!!! 😊😊😊
Yes please, need to know more about your Ellie, You made the wheels and hey presto you had a frame, engine, boiler Wow. Did you buy any of it as a kit? And what does the electric gismo do on the front ?
Everything was made, nothing bought. My Ellie has a reversing valve. The gizmo is the R/C servo to control it.
I used the same burner i designed for my traction engine model th-cam.com/video/qsf_Cs00D40/w-d-xo.html

Nice Work as always
Yes please mate,
Why the rough surface finish, I wonder?
Sand too loose?
I would love to see lost wax casting etc.
leaving a comment to see more of Ellie :)
interesting build
Wonderful, bro you rae a very good.
More Ellie! Mooore :)
Absolutely !
Would be sweet to see the build of “Ellie”
Yes definitely 👌
Really nice
Woaw.. amazing. Please show us more. Any specs for the alloy? The casting looks perfect no signs of porosity..how to make it perfect like this?
The alloy is 12% aluminium and 88% zinc. It is very hard and heavy. Make great flywheels.
@@myfordboy thank you. Can you please advise on how to reduce porosity?
ZL 12 needs no flux or degassing. For aluminium I degas with sodium carbonate and flux with a drossing flux.

Nice casting ??? Fully machined finally !!! Could have been turned from bar stock ..
Only if you have stock available big enough.
Very nice
I might be missing something but I'm not sure why these were cast rather than just machined from bar stock, given the design...
You can do that. I did not have anything suitable so cast my own.
@@myfordboy fair enough.
