I love commanders like Marisi. The ability to hijack your opponents decision making capability is very strong and forcing opponents to use resources against each other is also amazing
Some suggestions: Monarch is a very good mechanic in this deck. I mean, it's good generally, but Marisi in particular is very good at keeping it. A lot of Monarch cards in these colors aren't quite within a $50 budget, but there are a few, and most of the others fall within reasonable upgrade range. Cards like Dictate of the Twin Gods, Avatar of Slaughter, and Crescendo of War provide symmetrical buffs, which can be very useful when your goal is constantly getting your opponents to attack each other. Gisela, Blade of Goldnight is especially good as a reasonable upgrade. Cards like Kismet and Blind Obedience can help make sure your opponents aren't able to put down blockers after swinging with their goaded creatures. This kind of comes down to preference in deck building, but I like putting in a few cards that give your opponents some creatures to goad and really get your opponents swinging at one another. Some good ones are Rite of the Raging Storm, Rampage of the Clans, Sylvan Offering, Varchild's War Riders, Goblin Spymaster, and Hunted Dragon. Tempt with Vengeance is a solid reasonable upgrade. Loyal Apprentice pumps out a flyer every turn. Odric, Master Tactician is another good way to make sure your creatures get through. Orzhov Advokist works kind of like the symmetrical anthems and can help deter attacks. Soltari Champion is a fairly cheap evasive creature that also anthems your team. Luminarch Ascension is a very strong reasonable upgrade. Herald of the Host gives you 3 attackers in one; the other myriad creatures also work, but the red one doesn't have evasion and the green one is a bit expensive, mana-wise. That's about everything; I've been tweaking my brew of this deck for a while.

What about bow of nylea: 3cmc artifact - $1.71 Attacking creatures you control have deathtouch. 1Green, Tap: Choose one - • Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. • Bow of Nylea deals 2 damage to target creature with flying. • You gain 3 life. • Put up to four target cards from your graveyard on the bottom of your library in any order.
Seems perfect. Supports the Theme of evasive/not likely to be blocked creatures, can buff them for a little more dmg, and even get some keycards back into the deck. It can also maybe kill that one flying token, that prevents you from attacking with your 1/1 flyer. And lifegain doesn't hurt. Definitily a great card for the deck.

I would add Odric, master tactitian. With this many small creatures it's easy to get his ability to trigger and it will pretty much ensure that we always get Marisi to trigger. We can also use the deathtriggers to make favorable trades. Crusader of Odric can be a nice finisher as well.
I have not thought about this commander since it came out, this deck tech was a really fresh take on how I play commander and combos nicely with commandzone's video on aggro.
Marisi has been my absolute baby of a deck for a while now. I certainly didn't keep the curve so low, and have upgraded beyond the typical budget here, but for decks with more ramp and high end, I recommend building with "combat damage to players" triggers. Things like Soltari Visionary (shadow, and kills one enchantment from players it hits), Yavimaya Dryad (forestwalk + fetch a forest), Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor (gives opponents tokens when she hits them), Odric Master Tactician (when you attack with him and 2 other creatures, you decide how and if blocks happen) and, of course, the Dowsing Dagger, for crazy ramp, especially in an evasion-focused deck. Add some evasion artifacts like Key to the City, Whispersilk Cloak, and Trailblazer's Boots, and you can run your goad plan PLUS more general Naya value. I very fondly remember one particular game in which an opponent was playing Ghalta, gave him a double strike equipment, and then I used them as my own personal hitman.

I've had a lot of fun with my Marisi deck. I recommend Break Through the Line and Spirit en-Dal for added unblockability, Berserk and Blood Frenzy to make our opponents hit each other harder and remove their creatures, and Duelist's Heritage and Crescendo of War to speed up combat damage every turn.
So I saw this tech and immediately refused to watch it at first because I had plans to at least sketch out an idea for Marisi and I wanted to do it before I watched this. I'm glad I did. We had many of the same cards but my problem was that I didn't go deep enough on the one drops. I see Marisi as kind of a Naya Edric or Tetsuko and it's nice to see someone else go that way. The fact we had so many cards in common also tells me I'm getting better at my building.
The moment I saw this Legendary in the commander 19 deck I wanted to build around him. After building the deck and playing a few rounds I have noticed going wide is usually a better strategy so I will be taking some tips from this deck tech.
Marisi is great. I tried to build him when he was spoiled but I couldn't decide if I wanted small creatures or bigger creatures so I scrapped it. This deck looks really fun.
I'm surprised to see no one has mentioned battlefield medic for this deck. Its battalion effect gives all creatures indestructible. Plus you can pay 2w and sac it to counter a spell.

Hydras have always been my most favorite creature and I have even built a deck around him and it’s been working out pretty good. I have this as my commander for my token deck. Haven't tested it yet since I'm waiting for cards to be delivered but it has the most synergy and flexibility next to my monoblue

What about white shadow creatures? They are only a midge more expensive than the one drop flyers and have additional utility and are virtually unblockable as flying is still more likely to encounter compared with other creatures with shadow. Also the hunted creature cycle is fantastic in regard to giving your non creature players having access to goaded tokens plus that green spell where you can "gift players" with creatures plus the red varchild legendary also gives players even more tokens to swing with is quite hilarious.

I like the idea of the deck, but maybe it could work better by using creatures that give your opponents tokens too (hunted troll, hunted dragon, akroan horse). that way, they're guaranteed to have something to attack
I think this deck needs to play more at instant speed to take advantage of being able to cast spells unhindered during combat. Stuff like Dictate of Heliod, Dictate of the Twin God and Great Oak Guardian.
I run Marisi with a bunch of shadow creatures and some enchantments to buff them. At the time there's only one opponent left, hopefully I go in for lethal damage.
Can't help thinking about super powerful instants you can cast during combat that aren't really combat tricks, since opponents can't respond to them, or using something like Emergence Zone or Vedalken Orrery to abuse the first ability.
instead of fyndhorn elves i would look to arbor elf, krosan restorer or voyaging satyr. Nacatl War-Pride (80c) can help with some synergie with the commander, as the tokens are created for each creature they have, not the amount needed to block so if the opponent had been goaded the turn before the tokens are pretty much unblockable. also surprised wild nacatl isnt in the naya deck. Loam lion, kird ape, sunblade elf, and quest for renewal could help with some slightly stronger one drops, but evasion is stronger most of the time.
Now that I got the commander myself I will slowly start building the deck, but recently I wondered - if there is only yourself and one opponent left and you attack while Marisi is on the battlefield, aren't you kind of killing yourself if you don't have any creatures to defend with, since the opponents creatures can only attack you?
How about Spirit Bonds enchantment for this budget deck? Every time u drop one of those evasive 1 drop creatures u can get a flying spirit for 1 mana, and then u can sac the spirit to protect the commander. Is it worth running? Somewhat new to magic and would appreciate your thoughts on if it's worth running
My Marisi deck still waits its turn to be tested... I emphasized combat tricks and overall combat damage. I also couldn't help but notice that this deck had only like 2-3 removal spells... In Commander, you'd want to go by with 8 at minimum. Mine has 11. 7-8 is the usual I run in my 60 card decks.
I'd play all of the soltari shadow creatures over some other evasion creatures. An extra attack generator could leverage a single creature to hit two opponents or an overrun. Planar guide is good protection from board wipes. Invasion Plans is funnier and more disruptive than Bedlam.
Oh man, I tried playing this commander and ALWAYS got rekt or focused or both. I went the "everyone must attack every combat" route. I'd like to try your build.
This suffers from playing against non-creature decks, so I would consider putting a Deafening Silence in it to prevent people from storming off, especially since this is a creature-based deck.
if you get the chance to play titanic ultimatum and have it be a reasonable choice you dont pass on it, also its pretty budget so might as well use it as a finisher
Its so funny to see that this 50 dollar deck is 1 mio times better than literally every other deck tech of this commander out there where they have no budget limitation.

Welp. Heres hoping the second half of my build of this deck doesnt increase in price now ahaha. Honestly its a fun deck from the budget version i made at home so would recommend if you like a different pace of game
This commander is underrated and powerful. Super annoying when you play one creature with shadow that basically is unblockable to 99.999 percent of creatures. Someone at My LGS has this kind of deck and it’s hard to deal With. Negating combat reactivity is very undervalued.
My only concern is the pillow-fort player. They use stuff like Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, and so on to prevent other opponents from coming at them. Goad's text says that the creatures must attack if able (which they can) and attack a player other than you if able (which they can't if they don't pay the taxes.)
Yeah man I read that ruling for the Goad mechanic and I was like "Wow, I am going to need some AoE enchantment removal" Imagine how troll it would be if goaded creatures had to attack a player with Norn's Annex and that ruling didn't exist lol
Is the Great Henge any good for a non-budget upgrade in this deck? I have a copy, but I’m still a bit confused just how wide this deck goes to Goad with Marisi.
The only thing I could think of throughout this entire deck tech is "what happens if Marisi dies?" This deck feels way too reliant of Marisi because without him all you have is like... 20 1/1 creatures.

I really liked your list and will try to incorporate it in to my idea of mixing Marisi with Death and Taxes tech, like Thalia, Aven Mindcensor etc.
I highly recommend "Tattermunge Witch" and Bowers Passag for this Deck.

With so many and so cheap creatures, I would recommend to run Guardian Project as a card draw engine.

I'd suggest Disrupt Decorum for some redundancy in case you have a turn you haven't got the boss on the board but need that goad

Welp. Heres hoping the second half of my build of this deck doesnt increase in price now ahaha. Honestly its a fun deck from the budget version i made at home so would recommend if you like a different pace of game
This commander is underrated and powerful. Super annoying when you play one creature with shadow that basically is unblockable to 99.999 percent of creatures. Someone at

Personally I’d run Vedalken Orrery, so you can dodge counterspells by casting everything during combat - oh wait it’s like thirty bucks.

My only concern is the pillow-fort player. They use stuff like Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, and so on to prevent other opponents from coming at them. Goad's text says that the creatures must attack if able (which they can) and attack a player other than you if able (which they can't if they don't pay the taxes.)
Yeah man I read that ruling for the Goad mechanic and I was like "Wow, I am going to need some AoE enchantment removal"
Imagine how troll it would be if goaded creatures had to attack a player with Norn's Annex and that ruling didn't exist lol

Is the Great Henge any good for a non-budget upgrade in this deck? I have a copy, but I’m still a bit confused just how wide this deck goes to Goad with Marisi.
The only thing I could think of throughout this entire deck tech is "what happens if Marisi dies?" This deck feels way too reliant of Marisi because without him all you have is like... 20 1/1 creatures.
