I needed this video, I’ve dreaded school and wasn’t gonna go this week ,, but this helped me realize that you are 100% right and I need to go to school and face reality. Thanks joe!! :))
I dropped out of school after finishing 10th grade. I then started adult education and graduated. I’m starting college in the spring but the main reason I dropped out was because of my diagnosed depression and anxiety. School was torture for me. Every morning I had this awful feeling in my gut when I went on the school bus. I had no friends and social situations were unbearable. Granted this was before I even dropped out so to say that school teaches social situations is correct but for some people it teaches us that we need to keep our heads down and avoid it to all costs. Now I get sweaty and uncomfortable in fucking grocery stores and it’s not because I wasn’t taught social skills in school it’s because of my anxiety. I think that dropping out is awful and no one should do it but I also think that there’s an unfair stigma around people who actually drop out. That they’re lazy and just didn’t wanna do it. But that’s usually not the case at all. To get to the actual point where you stop going to classes and drop out isn’t just because of that. It’s not just one day you decide to do it there’s other causes like you said supporting a family. There’s also medical/mental conditions that make school unbearable. I’m still worried that I won’t be able to do college because of my anxiety but the thought of going through life with only a GED is utterly terrifying.
genuienly agree with most points you make joe, i actually really love your perspectives and your counterpoints as it really opens my eyes and mind to understand what is going to come ahead of me (i'm finally a senior and im going to college in october 2023)
I’m currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the moment. I am around three-fourths of the way in and I can gladly say in almost every class I have ever taken that is actually major specific I have used the Pythagorean Theorem. Lesson be although one person might find something useless doesn’t mean it isn’t valuable in someone else’s eyes. Ergo the saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
What was really cool about my highschool was they had I forgot the name of the class lol it was like financial literacy something and it was all dedicated to teaching us about insurance, buying a car, buying an apartment, the differences between leasing and financing, same thing with a house and all of the insurances such as life, dental etc they taught us about mortgages and also all the investments and stocks. It was a pretty sick class I had senior year and wished more schools had that
yeah in my city, (and I live in Canada so it could be a Canadian thing) but all of our schools have classes like that. So when people make the point of "they don't teach that" I'm like- well yeah they do. But I forget that most schools or schools in America might not have that. Glad to see someone else with those same classes though!
Honestly I understand this isn't everyone and I'm kinda rare in this, but I find school very easy to just have a low A. I learn in class more than social interactions because I'm typically the smartest in my interactions with peers and people in high school don't really talk about anything that helps with life or school, so like I learn more in class situations. And it works for me since I'm interested in physics or science in general, so I and very attentive and I don't typically forget something unless it's a history DATE or math I haven't practiced in a while.
it’s almost impossible to be make more the a quarter million a year if you go to college. plus you probably will be in debt for a long time, it’s not worth it.
Personally, I think it should end at 9-10th grade. Because before that you learn all the basics you need for life. Such as decimal places and simple math, common sense and knowledge, grammar, writing, typing, much more. But if people want to actually have an important job that involves advanced maths, biology, writing, then stay in school but only focus on that one thing. That’s why homeschooling’s good imo. If you have a passion you can get your other stuff done first, then focus on the thing you truly want to do. Not waste your time on something you’re never gonna use when you can be using that time working on your passion. Idk that’s just me. Honestly wish schools were more free.
I dropped out of High School because my whole high school years I went to 3 different schools, and somewhere while I was bouncing around schools they lost all of my freshman credits and part of my sophomore credits so it’s basically like I never did those years of schooling even though I did. They told me there was nothing they could do about it so I’d just have to repeat my freshman year and my sophomore year. So I’d be about 20 years old graduating high school. So i decided to drop out instead and get my G.E.D on my own. Personally for me my high school experience was awful. I would never want to repeat those years. The only thing that definitely sucked about dropping out though was watching my best friend graduate and seeing her go out to prom and have a fun high school experience without me. We’d always talk about doing those things together.
this is a joe bartolozzi video so naturally its entertaining and funny, but its also a real eye opener. he has great points. honestly i was always a 'i hate school its like prison i wont use any of this info' person. since covid hit in late 2019 ive been doing online school, each year i always went back for the first 2 months before going to online again because everything about it stressed me out, but i wish i didnt have that option. like joe has said, it teaches you how to be social etc (i am awkward as fuck since doing online school) and it also teaches you dozens of different things at a semi-basic level so you can learn what you like. i got none of that. im now going into highschool as a freshman, this is where school begins to get more serious and now that ive become aware of the pros, im going to be staying in-person for good. time to be a normal functioning member of society ik you wont see this but thanks joe for providing me with common sense
as somebody who is doing online school, yeah, schools hard and I'm just a freshman now I know how important school is. like joe says it teaches you to not quit things. I know how draining school can be but don't give up, I know it's easier, but it's not supposed to be easy.
As a homeschooler I am glad I didn't go to public school because I learned more without it, but wish I did go to public school because I am now almost 20 with no friends.
The idea that school gives you friends may be true for some people but a lot of people can’t even remember the names of people in their old highschool. I know that school only gave me in-school friends. Meaning the friends I had we only interacted in school and I don’t have those relationships anymore.
The only reason some homeschoolers are socially awkward is because their parents don’t encourage or nudge them to be social, people always act like the only way to meet people is through school… That’s not the truth.
Well, for example, as a musician who took basic school music classes about general music knowledge/history, i never needed any of it and i forgot it all. I'm still a musician though. Nothing changed, i just wasted time. If all of that time was spent on practicing/etc. i would have been so much better by now. I would've probably started to get paid double of what i'm getting paid right now. There are so many better videos of this storyteller, but sneako and joe decided to watch specifically this one for some reason. Also, i learned math equasions i never needed, i learned rules of physics from outer space that i will never even see happen infront of my eyes in real-time and so much more. That's why, the best rated (by students) schools are schools that FIRST let you choose what you want to do and THEN help you do it instead of making you do EVERYTHING and THEN choosing what you want to do. Let's call it a "choice" school, for examples. By the way, scientists studied the IQ and health comparison of the students from both schools (school of "choice" versus a common school), and guess what? Turns out, IQ levels and health levels both were 20-30% higher. Also, students can come to that school whenever they want. But that's what makes them want to go there, because they ACTUALLY learn efficiently. Not to mention, people were skipoing school WAY less there, even though it was completely okay to do so. Tell me, you still want to go to a common school now. You can do the research about if you want. Final note: Also gadgets like calculators or google browsers on phones are literally made for you to have the info whenever you need it instead of learning everything from the beginning and then forgetting everything in the end.
Seeing this mega late but I "dropped out" of high school after the 1st semester of my sophomore year due to mental health and focus based reasons. I miss school very bad, I miss seeing the small things students and staff do for eachother to make them happy. I didn't understand the importance of attending class and actually going to school. I turn 17 next month and I'll able to test out for my GED. if any students see this shit, stay in. You might be stressed n shit but I promise you, you need it. I find that even without school, I'm still stressed to do good in life. Stay in school and like actually pay attention, please.
I feel after 10th grade at most, school is irrelevant. They don’t provide any new information after that point, they are jus reiterating information you’ve already learned. High school is mainly for social purposes, it’s where “you find yourself”. I even find issue with that because my first action in finding myself was dropping out. I feel you don’t find yourself until you leave the school environment. All school provides is jus a piece of paper and a bunch of useless knowledge that you won’t need.
I understand your viewpoint, no hate, the way I personally see it is; school is necessary until mid to late highschool, you already have a good foundation of knowledge at that point. The way they structure it sucks honestly, if you at least had more choices for electives and it would start later and a lot less homework, it wouldn't be as bad. But I dropped out so I can just focus on using my time to get ahead on the money aspect of life, not because I'm greedy, but because I understand that this world is now built upon it, and everything is a cashgrab by companies to scam you for dumb sht. So I just think it's more important to get ahead of the curb and get going on making more money. That's just how I see it.
Joe I just want you to know you are my favorite TH-camr/streamer rn and you will probably be one of my top five if not top 3 TH-camrs of all time. I honestly really like your videos. I’ve watched every single one

I lowkey got hella lucky I got like 3 engineering classes and I'm on track for working for either NASA or SpaceX as an aerospace engineer in 8 years...
As a someone who just graduated highschool at 18 I've decided I'm taking a year or so off to turn my life around in terms of finding employment and actually using my time to better myself before either going to uni or joining the Australian army as a mechanic
high school in reality is NOT that bad. the people? yeah, but the work? actually not that bad. the work nowadays is actually pretty simple as long as you study and get actually into the classes. dropping out is an AWFUL idea, especially when youre a freshman. im a homeschooler thats working at chick fil a :skull: i think im socialized enough hahah
The technical disciplines need a lot of training which is often taught in school/uni, it is not impossible to obtain the skills and knowledge on your own, but its rather rare and even so, society prefers certified engineers/doctors/scientists etc.
Sneako's course is like telling people their gold over that hill and then selling the miners you told shovels, while there wasn't even any gold there in the first place.
I think it can be worth it at times. Sometimes they teach you meaningless shit that you won’t use ever later on in life, but I’ve learned a lot of stuff in school. Without school we probably wouldn’t be able to read or write, we wouldn’t be able to drive, not really socialize either because that’s the only place you go to and meet friends unless you’re a homeschooler or in a different situation. I think getting a good education is important, even if it mentally and physically drains the shit out of me.
There is so much stuff that school doesn’t teach,i go to a Puerto Rican school everything is crap, like nothing is useful, from kinder to 7th grade is literally the most important stuff I’ve learned. The other years didn’t teach me anything new and im literally repeating the same thing but I ain’t dropping out,is hard but i have to deal with it,strict parents and crappy school system is hell but i got 3 years more 2 go.
This is a quote from the U.S Bureau of labor statistics: "In the third quarter of 2019, full-time workers age 25 and older had median weekly earnings of $975. Those without a high school diploma had median weekly earnings of $606, compared with $749 for high school graduates (no college), and $874 for workers with some college or an associate degree. Workers with a bachelor's degree (and no additional degree) had median weekly earnings of $1,281. Workers with an advanced degree (master's, professional, and doctoral degrees) had median weekly earnings of $1,559 in the third quarter of 2019."
As someone who dropped out of high school recently, I can say it was the best option for me and significantly better than staying in school, and I'll be the first person to say you should basically never drop out. I had to work to help support my family, and for a few years I had been battling lung disease and there was covid. So my grades were bad and I was barely able to attend school last semester, but before that I was on track to graduate. But I got my GED, and I thought it was easy only because I had AP and honors classes for most of school so I knew enough to pass the tests and it looks better than my transcript and good enough to go to the same college I wanted to go to and I could still get the same grants and scholarships. As someone in a really unique situation where dropping out was my best option, I think you need to be an idiot to drop out of high school willingly because you didn't wanna go. Because just testing for your GED, in my state at least, is $140 to just be tested, while you can go to high school and get 28-32 free classes and in a social environment.
hey joe thanks for making this video, I'm making a literary review for my college English class on if school is worth it and am using this as one of my sources. I'm so excited for my professor to watch this whole video just for the part where you say "go to college if you want to". :)
yo thx for this vid, cant believe i was sped enough to think that high school wasnt important enough for my time. I feel so dead in the head for even thinkin like that, and nice vid
High school is doing absolutely nothing to help me build a career. I still don't know what to do with my life. part of the reason why im not trying as hard as im suppose to in school.
Omg the different between smarts and people who score better is SO TRUE OMG- I score bad at EVERYTHINGGGG, but I understand the material, i don’t even know how I score that bad, but im so annoyed about it
I hear about this awhile ago, there’s a school we’re they let the students do whatever and learn whatever they want and they had a higher IQ than most public school students.
In a sense HS can be very expensive private or public, Lunch money can add up Materials cost can add up, basic things you need in order to just attend school cost money. Not to mention tax money goes to "free education", pretty sad life tbh.
Again this is my subjective viewpoint you are allowed to have and voice your own as well

@@darkroom5892that’s not true at all. A lot of people don’t have debt

Underrated comment tbh, everything you listed out matches my exact perspective on school, great mindset man, it'll get you places.

This whole statement is fucking true no cap
We’d always talk about doing those things together.

this is a joe bartolozzi video so naturally its entertaining and funny, but its also a real eye opener. he has great points.
honestly i was always a 'i hate school its like prison i wont use any of this info' person. since covid hit in late 2019 ive been doing online school, each year i always went back for the first 2 months before going to online again because everything about it stressed me out, but i wish i didnt have that option. like joe has said, it teaches you how to be social etc (i am awkward as fuck since doing online school) and it also teaches you dozens of different things at a semi-basic level so you can learn what you like. i got none of that. im now going into highschool as a freshman, this is where school begins to get more serious and now that ive become aware of the pros, im going to be staying in-person for good. time to be a normal functioning member of society
ik you wont see this but thanks joe for providing me with common sense

as somebody who is doing online school, yeah, schools hard and I'm just a freshman now I know how important school is. like joe says it teaches you to not quit things.
I dare you to read this lmao.
I'm not gonna read this

i dropped out of highschool and got my GED in less than a month and im so glad i did just graduate that much earlier
Joe and sneako, two of the loudest people on youtube😂
Seeing a new vid of joe is the best thing possible
I feel after 10th grade at most, school is irrelevant. They don’t provide any new information after that point, they are jus reiterating information you’ve already learned. High school is mainly for social purposes, it’s where “you find yourself”.
I even find issue with that because my first action in finding myself was dropping out. I feel you don’t find yourself until you leave the school environment. All school provides is jus a piece of paper and a bunch of useless knowledge that you won’t need.
Sneako starts taking:
Me: instantly doesnt know wtf is happening
"talking" 🤓👍
Joe at 20 has more of a grip on life than sneako at 24 who thinks he knows everything

high school in reality is NOT that bad. the people? yeah, but the work? actually not that bad. the work nowadays is actually pretty simple as long as you study and get actually into the classes. dropping out is an AWFUL idea, especially when youre a freshman.

I love this man.
I was going to sleep but I heard a notification but when I seen it was joe I woke myself up to watch this
Watching someone reacting to someone reacting to someone hits different
Because just testing for your GED, in my state at least, is $140 to just be tested, while you can go to high school and get 28-32 free classes and in a social environment.
shut up.
