I've got tons of pedals and bought the hx years ago. It's one of my favorite pedals now. I think of it more like a utility pedal. One fx block has my real orange rv100 and the other has my drive pedals from my es8. Then the wet fx from my es8's 7&8loops go to my mesa 290. That's just 2 blocks on the HX and it's already wdw with 3 cabs. From there i can gate right after the drives and another after the preamp for a noiseless rig and clean wet fx. You can also split the blocks and have a hx preamp go to the Mesa while the main channel has the rv100. And then there's the hx stereo fx that swirl in and out while the pedal board pings left and right. . Tldr, it's a pedal board and amp rig exponential modifier.
I recently picked up the Helix floor. I was considering the HX stomp, and adding a few additional pedals on a more DiY board. I’ve used Line6 stuff the better part of 20 years and haven’t really picked up any solo pedals. Went thru nearly every generation of the board starting with the POD 2.0 with the expression board. Only skipped the Vetta. The leap from the HD500X / Firehawk to the Helix generation is hands down the largest in capabilities and significantly increased the price. This thing can do way more than I need it to but also does everything that I need it to do very well. Gear is gear though, everybody argues and debates it endlessly. I was talking with my friends who’ve got the Helix, Kemper, or Neural for which would fit me best… tried them all and went with the Helix. If I were on more of a tighter budget I’d have likely just bought another Firehawk but I have a much better job now.
Not to be mean but that other guy was a little too full of himself, claiming the HX Stomp is the best gear ever. He lost me as soon as he mentioned “Midi” as a reason to use it.
I totally get where you’re coming from about being budget-minded. Like you, I don’t do this for a living. I get gear when I can afford it, and price is a big factor for me-whether it’s waiting six months for good mic stands to go on sale or saving up for a year to replace our 8-year-old soundboard that has broken channels. It’s all God’s money and we need to spend it as wisely as we can (Matthew 25:14-30). A lot of worship guitarists' channels don’t talk about having a budget, making the rest of us feel like we don’t love Jesus as much as they do if we’re not dumping tens of thousands of dollars into our gear, so I really appreciate you keeping that in your videos. I’m glad I found your channel and can’t wait to see more of your videos soon.
How exactly is someone having things, and not talking about something outside the scope of their channel or videos (budget) an indictment of your love for Jesus?
Maybe it's my lack of understanding of the English language, but it's precisely because of the budget mindset that your last video didn't make sense to me: "why $700 for the Stomp when you can get a Delay pedal for $300 and a Reverb for $250..." I cannot make sense of that, when I can get like 50 Delays, 50 Reverbs, plus hundreds of other FX for those $700. And why did I say that I use it by itself? Budget! I cannot afford anything else! Maybe I will use ChatGPT next time?
