The underdogs always bite back!
A lot of people like to ignore that most of the flyers are young players that continue to get better. i.e foerster, frost, tippet, york, zamula, brink, drysdale the list goes on. Combine that with the addition of michkov they could surprise people, ya know like thay did last year
not to mention our entire lineup is pretty much all 1st round picks. its nice to see a potential young future core actually growing within the roster
Fedotov is not going to be the starter lol (At least, it is not planned to be that way. Can't predict what happens there.)
The conversation around the Flyers is that Ersson is the starter, not Fedotov. They're expected to do a 2:1 split or so.
Feels like anybody who thinks Fedotov is the starter should just be completely ignored 😂
That was such a weird take on their part...
Ersson did play well until he had to play like 30 of 36 games and just got ran into the ground. As long as Fedotov can be serviceable to give Ersson enough of a rest, the goaltending will be okay
Drysdale was also hurt the entirety of last season and played through it. The Flyers have said that the Ducks basically screwed up his development and that they need to retrain all of his habits
Torts/Shaw were able to turn Rasmus fuckin' Ristolainen into a serviceable 2nd pair defensive Dman. IMO their magnum opus in terms of developing players.
Risto himself said that he wished they were there coaching him at the start of his career. Basically implying the Sabres screwed him up too. If they could do that for Risto, imagine what they can do for Drysdale.
I think you guys are underestimating Ersson. He had a .930 save percentage before Carter Hart got arrested.
Yeah his numbers plummeted because he was overworked. Torts admitted it after the season.
Definitely - he does still have to prove it, but he looked good in the preseason match & in a proper workload I'm hopeful he'll thrive.
It'll also help to hopefully have more goal support.
Flyers fan here. I think they definitely have a chance to make it back. Adding Michkov with another year of their young forwards growing will make us better. I think the defense will be good enough. Power play should improve with Michkov and a healthy Drysdale. It all comes down to Ersson and Fedotov

Fail to realize that last night you went to ot with a rly weak bruins side and a pretty strong flyers side. It went to ot I was there all my family are flyers fans and yeah mitchkov is gonna be amazing ngl but your goalie situation is not great and d pair beyond 2 line is yikes. Rly hope you guys step up tho

This season for the Flyers is
> Improve the powerplay (which looks good so far in preseason)
> Young guys continue to improve (MM looks great so far and JL is a NHLer already)
> Errson and Fedotov improve to 1A/1B
This is a continue to improve and next year is the year to compete for the playoffs. I see them as finishing in the 5-6 place range
It would definitely be nice to pick high in this coming year's draft considering how many 1st and 2nd rounders we have.
They need to either pick high or make the playoffs. Just barely missing again and finishing middle of the pack would be the worst situation in the long run
These guys show they haven't been paying any attention & have no clue. Their timeline with the Hart arrest & Fedotov drama is wrong, they don't explain why the Flyers fell off last season, they have no idea how amazing Ersson was playing before being exhausted, they think Fedotov will be the starter, fail to acknowledge Kolosov or Mäkiniemi, have no clue as to how good the Flyers D or young forwards have been playing, & don't acknowledge Drysdale struggled last season because he played with a major injury the whole time. But that's alright. Guess the Flyers can still surprise this season. 😂
Walker was traded and Drysdale, Seeler, Risto were all injured at one point and Ersson was still carrying the Flyers through it. These guys sound like they got their talking points from WIP.

Errson is way better than his numbers last year. He was beat into the ground because we literally had no viable back up goalies and were trying to push playoffs.

They finished a few points out after the worst possible stretch of hockey. Could've easily made the playoffs if a certain someone didn't get ejected from the league. Metro didn't really get better and they just added the likely Calder winner who already looks like their best player since Lindros.
Errson was ran into the ground last year at the end. Peterson sucks, Sandstrom wasn't good. If the Flyers had Fedotov when the lost Hart they would of been in the playoffs last year.
They woulda needed a properly-sized set of equipment for him too apparently 🤣 Man 23-24 was a fuckin' year.

You are underestimating the benefit of a healthy Coots, Risto and Drysdale. They are back and and looking good in the preseason.
Their back end is "miserable" Steve? York and Sanheim are solid, Drysdale is a phenomenal skater, seeler is a shot blocking machine and Ristolainen is great as a 6th D
Yes, saying their back end is miserable is ignorant. I would argue the Flyers blue line was probably the biggest improvement for the whole team last year
The Sam Ersson disrespect is crazy (not just you guys). Check his numbers the first 2 months of the season… and he was a rookie!!! People are so quick to overlook this for some reason
The Risto hate based off who we was three years ago drives me bonkers. I get there’s a lot of players to keep up with and he’s done it quietly, but before you dismiss him out of hand actually check his underlying metrics, they’re actually really good when he’s played.
Tough to take someone's opinion seriously when they are blaming the Flyers goaltending issues on Fedotov being kidnapped by the Russian government and not remembering our number 1 goalie was arrested right when we started to have goaltending issues. Fedotov was a non-story last season until he out of nowhere came over.
Just wait - last year was a learning curve for them. It sucked to watch the downfall, but a ton of our inexperienced players got a feel for playing in meaningful games for the first times in their careers. Lots of knowledge and experience gained there, not to mention competing in a competitive metro division playing tons of good comp down the stretch. The future is bright for this squad. The core is showing itself, slowly, but surely. This is year 2 of the rebuild and they are in a great position with what their building here AND our internal personnel in my opinion is the best its been in a long long time. Heatley, Sharp, Simmonds, Keith Jones, Danny B, etc... all of these guys want to win and change the way the Flyers do things and earn the city's respect back for this team that has been beyond mediocre for 12 ish years now. After this year, they will finally be able to clear some dead cap off their shoulders from Chuck Fletcher and then they will have some wiggle room for free agents, contract signings, and the ability to bring in some more talent and skilled vets to fill in some holes with our upcoming young stars. Tippett is going to be an elite forward in this league it is so obvious, look at his progression and confidence in such a short time. Dude is a power house, fast asf. Not to mention Frost is finally starting to bloom and play with confidence, Foerster has a cannon of a shot and has found his way a bit, TK has stepped up to where no one thought he could, Laughton is a locker room guy who plays with heart on the ice, Michkov has already made his presence felt in 3 pre season games. Kid is hungry and wants to win you can tell. The list goes on and on, our entire roster minus a handful are all 1st round picks. We are in great position moving forward, and I think Torts does have the ability to still help out some of these rooks get acclimated and get into great habits early in their career. When the time comes to go for it, Torts will prob move up to front office and we'll get someone new behind the bench. Of all the flyers teams Ive seen and the non stop "core" coming in and out the last 3 decades, something about this one seems right. Slow and steady wins the race. I have faith
Errson disrespect is hilarious. He was pretty damn good until he was given a highly unrealistic workload. This is a playoff team. Watch.
Flyers were unanimously predicted by all noteworthy sports media outlets to be 31st-32nd in the league going into the 23-24 season and held a playoff position until the very last game. Old habits die hard I guess
Ersson was amazing between the second week of the season and right after hart got arrested. They overplayed him because Peterson and sandstrom sucked so bad he was their only shot.
Frost is a playmaker, but he is one that is heavily reliant on his linemates, flyers have not had a good scorer in his entire career, I think if he plays with michkov he will add at least 20 points to his total this year.
The back end isn’t terrible, it’s very average. And how Drydsdale plays could make them better.
the 18 pounds of muscle thing is from last years training camp to this years. so over the whole year, not just the summer

Great points guys but ultimately with how young this team is I believe we will go as far as our goalies take us. Sam is the clear number one but can fedotov give Sam the rest that he didn’t have last year? If fedotov can hold the ship down we can go places.
Analysis of young teams always tends to completely dismiss the possibility that a young core improves internally. Flyers are relying on internal development of Foerster Drysdale York Frost Brink and Ersson, all top half of the lineup players who are 25 and under. Assuming that who they were last year (especially Ersson and Drysdale given the circumstances) is who they will be this year at their age requires a LOT of leaps that I’m not ready to make
People said they would finish 8th last season. Offensive depth on this team is very good. Centers are lacking but the wings are very good four lines deep. The blue line was good all season last year and it’s largely the same minus walker. The defense got bad when they were all injured around the deadline. The team fell off when they lost their starter. At the time in late January the flyers had a top 6 goalie tandem by the numbers. When hart got charged that dropped because they had to play errson 31 out of 36 games.
Michkov is getting the job done during preseason.

The analysis of the Flyers has consistently been that they are a young, hard-working team (see Tortorella, John) lacking elite scoring talent. Now they're adding Michkov to the top six and their young players have got another offseason under their belts... so they'll be worse than last year?
Flyers winning the Cutter trade is a WILD take. And that's coming from a Flyers fan who likes Drysdale.
Getting a dman with top pair potential and a second round pick for a guy thats mentally 12 years old is pretty good

i know its just preseason only preseason. no need to get hyped on preseason but frost and michkov are putting in work. which is as excited as you could be. and luchanko is looking like hes ready to make the team year 1. so look for the flyers to turn some heads this season.
You guys have no idea what you’re talking about. Fedetov is not the starter, michkov is on the 2nd line (plays the same position as tk). Not surprised though you guys never have good takes when it comes to the flyers

Caps and Pens both to collapse, also Tampa in the Atlantic. Flyers will def make the playoffs with Michkov, and either the Sens or Sabres will as well. Yzerplan will not work in Detroit.

its a soft/stealth/retain culture and dignity tank season. they have 6 picks in the top 50 in 2025. hopefully more if they move a few vets
They need to either make the playoffs or secure high draft position, either would be fine in different ways IMO, but finishing in the middle just barely out of the playoffs would be disastrous in the long term
