The only band I know who would put cheerleader chants in the middle of such a very metal song. One more reason to love them. You're not the only one who had difficulty knowing how to pronounce it. It is a genus name for a type of flower with 5 petals. Nemophila is native to North America (like rock and roll) but very popular in Japan (like rock...) After my telling everyone it is neem-oh-feel-ah, I am seeing more pronunciation guides saying more like Neem-AH-fill-ah, which appears to be what Mayu calls it in a video. IMHO they are first and foremost a fun band, incredibly skilled but not afraid to play with their music and enjoy. Which means we can - I have never heard a Nemophila song I didn't like, a rare quality shared by Band-Maid. In fact I did something I have never ever done before and pre-ordered their EP scheduled to release on the 25th from JPU Records.

A little background on this band, Singer Mayu was called Sindy when she was in the band Lipstick, after she left, she asked Saki, guitarist on the right, to get a practice band together. They released a cover of Iron Maiden's The Trooper and went viral and decided to be more than just a practice band. Saki has all the connections in the Japanese metal scene, she started in 2009 in the band Destrose (that band is a rabbit hole with 25 "regular" members and over 20 freelance members in 11 years which spawned about 20 bands) Tamu the drummer is 1 of the best and if you look at Nemophila's earliest cover, you will see a pregnant Tamu destroying those drums like it is nothing.
In their Unijolt-interview, Mayu gave a slightly other version of the story (I suppose this depends on her mood maybe - she seems to love a good prank from time to time). Anyways, she said in this interview that she teamed-up with bass player Haraguchisan who she knew since her schooldays, and that they decided together to ask drummer Murata Tamu, who they knew from her popular web channel, where she did (and still does) numerous collabs with other artists. Tamu then proposed to invite Saki, who she knew personally (from Naon Yaons World Guitar Girls Collection, for example), and Saki at her turn introduced Hazuki as 2nd guitar player ... I doubt that we will ever know which story is true at last! :-))

The other originals are a little different, but always with a high level of quality. They have a lot of fascinating covers too. Among the originals, I suggest OIRAN. Great reaction and track man. This is going to lead you through a world cohabited by many worthy bands.. Lovebites and Band Maid are two particularly large rabbit holes which have trapped many a traveller.. highly recommended stuff. As an aside, a thought for Japanese pronunciation is that each consonant generally has equal weight.. I found this thought helps greatly in settling how something should probably sound.

Might as well jump in the deep end and stop dipping your foot in the pool when it comes to the all female Japanese Rock bands and finally get the the other ones as well, Band-Maid and LoveBites are the other two most well known ones you gotta try! Studio quality musicianship and the right look and sound and they all seem to just really enjoy what they do. You wont be disappointed.

They are a supergroup composed of: Mary's Blood guitarist Saki ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects) Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs.
