    To make sticks flexible (more break-resistant) dip in boiling water, or leave in hot steam for a while.

      Or just work them in, slowly bend them back and fourth, and you'll get much better results than just going for it and hoping. It's a basic skill in bushcraft, Ray Mears has a bunch of videos on it if interested.

    • @Tsuchimursu
      @Tsuchimursu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or just get a young willow twig.

    • @zoolkhan
      @zoolkhan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tsuchimursu or two twigs and cross them further up bind them there. Or smaller diameter twigs.... This part of the trap is the least important (by that i mean, the design... bend angle.. arch hight... diameter... is it one stick or several... all that isnt all that important.)
      and easiest to improvise. Having a heavy enough fallblock is what people should focus on more. Want to torture the mouse? or want to kill it?

    I love animals great and small. I appreciate how they enhance our human lives.
    Dogs and cats give us companionship. Birds and the bees give us fruit and game.
    The list is endless, We all share this planet together.
    I love that god gave us dominion over lesser creatures. it takes a special soul like Shawn to have humanity and reason in balance.
    I love that we are here on planet earth as a species designed over hundreds of thousands of years to outsmart and survive.
    Great channel... I wonder why I keep watching this channel.
    DO I LIKE WATCHING ANIMALS SUFFER? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Shawn's channel, Is practical and humane.
    I think it has to do with Shawn's practical no nonsense voice, and his obvious in touch with how mother nature works approach.
    We all need to be more humane.... Unlike Mother nature who would have a cat play with a mouse for a long time before killing it.
    Great channel!

    I know it's a rather odd idea/suggestion but you should set up every mouse trap you own in a room and see what trap they go to, while using the same bait in all of them. (or set up 3 different traps on one night and do one video once a week) so like NFL style to see what trap the mice favor!. and then have a championship! Haha Love the videos! Thanks

      That's a standard way of eliminating an infestation. Some mice are too smart for snap traps. Some are too smart for poison. But if you put out a ton of traps at the same time, they never learn becuse they all die.

    To help avoid that breaking while bending the stick, you can twist it as you bend it. That's how the English make a hazel rod go in a tight turn around the end of a hurdle or wattle wall, to finish it off rounded and not have sticks bristling off the end of the wall.

      I think the mice have been watching this channel on TH-cam. It looks like Daredevil Mice are moving into Shawn's place on a challenge - spend a week in Shawn's barn or house or garage and make it out alive, having survived at least two traps. Winners get the pick of the mouse maidens. Losers get a Darwin Award.

    Shawn just a suggestion. The piece of wood you used that you said snaps if you bend it. If you steam it (or in some cases you can boil it) or for an hour or two it makes it more plyable. Yes its just one more process but it eliminates the searching for hours for the perfect twig i spose.

      David Wilhelm Jr he gets it from the junkyard dog. Jk he gets it from Leroy Brown and he's badder than old king kong and meaner than a junkyard dog 🎵
