    I'm a Liverpool supporter through and through, but always had a soft spot in my heart for the Dons of yore and the Crazy Gang. In fact the team I played with in '92 we actually dubbed ourselves the Crazy Gang and played a similar rough and tumble style, and ironically won our league cup 1-0 against heavy favourites in a very gritty match where we were mostly playing reserve players because of all of our injuries and suspensions, and our 3rd choice goalkeeper had probably one of the greatest amateur performances I have ever witnessed. This and we played most of the match with 10 men when our version of Vinnie Jones decided to punch one of their players in the face and got sent off. Ah great memories.

    Some great comments about the media hating Wimbledon & the appalling act of duplicity in allowing the theft of an entire football club.
    Wimbledon were, for me, the absolute epitomy of the spirit of football. The heart & soul shown by such a tiny team with an average attendance of 27 + a dog, a rickity ground that resembled the nearby greyhound track, and the green stains of bile from the media & snobs from football's elite was STUNNING! How they over-achieved for so long was a demonstration in unity, passion, belief & playing to your strengths.
    As someone mentioned below, R.I.P John Fashanu, R.I.P Wimbledon F.C . . . LONG LIVE Real Football, and A.F.C. Wimbledon.
    Thanks for this.

      You've confirmed my memory, Asif. I'm sure no-one on the box bothered to mention the titanic difference in finance, fan-base, talent, etc, & the fact that, against these seemingly insurmountable odds Little David did defeat Goliath by a combination of determination, cunning & sweat.

    • @neilpurnell7075
      @neilpurnell7075 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See you're missing the point of the move. Wimbledon FC was dead; the attendances dropped to below 1,000, they didn't even play in their own stadium for fucks sake. Amoungst all the chaos at the club, it was willingly sold what with the club being in financial dispair, the club would've been liquidated within months anyway. So do not jump on the band wagon saying that "AFC are the true Dons" or "You stole a club!" because both those statements are NOT true. The AFC fans that were Wimbledon fans contributed to the downfall of their own club when it needed them most.

    • @LaughingStock_
      @LaughingStock_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sean, sorry, but it matters not one iota whether Wimbledon was dead, or not (to which point, I actually agree with you). There is absolutely nothing to justify the shutting down & relocation of any club. The club was/is WIMBLEDON. A club should be allowed to be born, prosper, and, if fate intends, die in its place of origin. This action would never, ever have been sanctioned by the F.A. for any other club. We're likely to beg to differ on the morality of what went on those years ago. However, looking at things purely objectively, the whole saga has actually been the making of AFC Wimbledon, and the saving of "Wimbledon". Long may AFC Wimbledon prosper . . . and my hope is that their ambitions to finally build their own stadium in Wimbledon will not be at the expense of the old, traditional greyhound club.

    • @neilpurnell7075
      @neilpurnell7075 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Martin Hugh Henley True they could've stayed at Wimbledon and the move to MK was not necessary. But AFC didn't save Wimbledon if anything they helped kill it as they formed before the club had even confirmed its move. I agree the move was immoral but among those to blame were the now AFC fans. They didn't save Wimbledon because they didn't even show up to games and help the club when it needed them the most. Just like AFC's formation, the other thing that came from this was giving a town a football club to support, Wimbledon had and has another club now and didn't appreciate the one they had, so now they have AFC and we have MK Dons. The club was shut down already, no one was going anymore so if the club was stolen, who was it stolen from? I understand the moral issues but I feel that only a small number of AFC fans can complain as only a minority stayed with their club at Selhurst Park. Whilst the franchising was immoral it was practical and the positives outweighed the negatives in my opinion as it gave birth to 2 teams as opposed to none.

    As a Liverpool fan I tip my hat to Wimbledon. Definitely not a penalty. Cracking save by Beasant. Liverpool were weak in the air and shrewdly Wimbledon capitalised. That Wimbledon team was put together for pittance. Gibson at 175k was their most expensive player. Bear in mind Wimbledon's victory in 1988 was at a time, where unlike now, the FA Cup was taken seriously.

    Didn’t Beardsley dribble the ball into the net after being fouled? The ref blew, no advantage was played and he just carried on to “score” . Just before Sanchez did?

      Most fans other than Liverpool wanted Wimbledon to win from what I remember. I even took the day off work from Saturday job at Texas home care to cheer for Wimbledon, I’m an Arsenal fan. 1 year later we turned them over as well to win the league at anfield.

      @@noobsaibot2856 There's a massive difference between playing like a man and deliberately trying to injure players. Brian Clough was right, some of these dirty tackles should be criminal offences.

      @@Puppy-ew4be ifkr, i dont understand this obsession of calling players like vinnie jones manly or calling any other player who wouldn't bat a second eye giving a player a career ending injury just to get any kind of advantage over a player or a team for a game. Yeah, today's brand of football is cheap and terrible in its own ways, but so is this thuggery so many toxic cunts label as "manly"

      That's the kind of stuff I miss. My local club I played for had a player like that. He spent half the season suspended, but the other half in game injuring opponents and a few times actually punching other players in the face. But he was also one of our best goal scorers so coach kept him on the team. Back then it was nothing more than a one game suspension. Today he would face criminal charges. I liked it better the old way. What happened on the pitch stayed on the pitch, and if you were too weak to take it, then you best not participate. Guys today are a bunch of pansies. There were some like that back then too, floppers and drama queens, but they usually ended up getting permanently flopped 🤣. Shit was rough. Had several teeth knocked out playing GK from boots to the grill, because I liked to come off my line back in the days when we had an actual sweeper and being a sweeper keeper was unnecessary, and dove head first at attackers like an idiot. Then I decided it was (slightly) better for my health to play an outfield position.

    Don't be an arse. The media HATED Wimbledon, so hard to see how they 'colluded' in anything. Wimbledon's football was basic but Liverpool (self-dubbed the 'Best Team in Europe') couldn't work out how to beat them. Says more about Liverpool's limitations that Wimbledon. As for Wimbledon being responsible for Abramovich, you are just utterly clueless
