    Is Fire Behavior a topic that we rush through? I think many firefighters miss out on a good foundation of fire behavior.

Even if you don’t pursue this path that philosophy will lead you into greatness and happiness buddy. God bless

    I enjoyed learning all this! Thanks! I have no interest in joining the FD but I like to learn these things anyway b/c information can save lives.
    I remember my husband & I driving down the road one day & seeing a ton of thick, black smoke coming from a garage fire. My hubby was driving, so I dialed 911 to report it & we pulled up to see if we could help in anyway. I understand citizens can get in the way & cause more damage sometimes, but we still check b/c we are human. We see a barking dog chained to the garage. Naturally, we try to free the dog with all this chaos going on around us. At this point, my hubby's working on the chain & here comes some other bystandars also just trying to help. The guy's heart was in the right place, he just wanted to see if anyone was inside. I noticed him proceeding to break the window. Before I could yell, "NO!", he busted the window out with a rock & this huge flame comes shooting out right over my hubby's head! I'm panicking, but my hubby doesn't see it or know what's going on b/c he's just consumed in getting that dog loose. Thankfully, my hubby wasn't hurt, but he easily could've been. He managed to free the dog & doggo was also unharmed.
    You can't be angry with someone just trying to help but he shouldn't have done that with us being so close to that window. Myself, my hubby, & possibly the dog too, could've all been toast if we weren't bent over trying to get the dog free. All it takes are the right set of circumstances all coming together to create a disaster.

      Yeah I think that's called venting? I'm not sure. I think firefighters use it to get the fire away from the place where the victim is and outside. Your husband and you has lots of courage!

    Very well done. I'm way too old to ever be a firefighter but I enjoy watching firefighting videos on youtube. I have learned a lot about it and find it very interesting. Those 3 or 4 guys just loafing around outside the front door are not really loafing at all buy are the standby rescue crew for the firefighters in the structure. ;-)

    This was great, looking forward to Part 2 and other related videos. I took the FDNY test way back, I think 1982 but they wound up throwing that list out due to a law suit. Anyway, I have one son who works for a ladder company in Manhattan, and another set to graduate the fire academy in 2 weeks. For me, all I wanted to be was a firefighter, but I wanted to get into arson, investigating fires. I don’t know why, but that was my goal. I was amazed at how investigators can tell where a fire started, whether accelerants were used or not and what kind, etc. Fire science seems so fascinating, and no, I’m not a closeted fire bug or a wannabe. Fire is mesmerizing, life saving, and life taking all at the same time. How can you not be interested in it? It can be both captivating and frightening as heck. Hmmm, maybe I do have some issues. 😀 Anyway, thanks for putting this out there. I remember the fire triangle from test prep classes. 👍

      See if your local department has an explorer or cadet program. Best thing to do is go to the firehouse and introduce yourself before a training. Often times they will love to teach you more and get you on track to becoming a firefighter.

    So is pyrolysis a physical or a chemical term? What is the pyrolysis of gasoline? Volatility creates vapors which may flash or flame. Surely there would be no pyrolysis for the liquid gasoline... Would the term pyrolysis apply to the breakdown of gasoline molecules or would that just be called combustion?

    • @jrsaldana1
      @jrsaldana1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only solids would go through pyrolysis. Woods is the best examples but so do plastics, etc.
      Class B fires that pertain to flammable liquids like gasoline emit vapors and that’s what goes into combustion when in contact with heat.
