    Oh now I know what I can make for the nieces this Christmas. I thought the turning would be difficult but you made it look easy. Thanks

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was surprised at how easy the turning was too. It actually went easier and quicker than turning a standard tube of fabric. I’m sure your nieces will love their new scrunchies. Then they can tell their friends that their Auntie made them 💜

    I have thinner hair and you are right the ones with the 1/4 elastic don't quite cut it for me. Will be doing this one for sure. Thanks for the great version. Happy holidays.

    🎄🎄Hi Robin I always make my own hair ties. I love yours! I also crochet 🧶 around those same hair ties. I crochet a hyperbolic crochet stitch all around the elastic & it’s a soft hair tie. I can always find my hair ties now. Thanks for sharing great tips. 🥰💕🧶🧵🏠👍👍🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

      Hi Maria. I’ve made crocheted scrunchies in the past too. It’s easy to match the yarn color to an outfit.

    I've never used a sewing machine before, but i have a feeling this is going to be a great begginer project 😊
    One question though, what kind of stich do you use to sew the scrunchie?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome! A new sewing machine is exciting. Most of the time you will be using a basic straight stitch when you are sewing two pieces of fabric together. Most machines automatically go to a straight stitch when you turn your sewing machine on. Your manual should show you how to sew a basic straight stitch. I also suggest searching here on TH-cam for your sewing machine make and model. I’ve always found helpful videos on how to use my sewing machine. Tips and tricks I didn’t know. Happy Sewing!!

    Have n9t seen this method before either, that makes 2 new versions I've seen today. Excellent I've got hair ties to spare to. practice on. Robyn, do you have a fabric type preference ?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basic quilting cotton as seen in this video works well. Lots of colors and designs to choose from. I have short hair but if I had long hair and make a variety of scrunchies I think I’d want a variety of fabrics. Something silly or super soft would be fun. Harder to sew with but the finished item would be fun. I would stick with thinner fabrics. Minky may be fun but It would be harder to sew for this project. If you have a variety of fabrics in your stash then try them all and see what works for you and your hair. You can even use old t-shirts or dresses etc. I hope that helps.

    Anyone if you could answer this. What Thread count do you use? 40, 50, 60 ect. Thanks... And where do you purchase it from please all information is great information. Thanks

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer the essential threads from connecting threads. Some machines prefer certain thread brands over others but I’ve been lucky so far. Weight is generally determined by what your sewing and type of fabric. Since I mostly sew quilting cottons I use a 50 weight thread. I mainly stick with a 100% cotton thread but others prefer a mix of cotton and polyester. Polyester threads cannot be used in projects that go in the microwave or come into contact with anything hot like a potholder. Ask 10 quilters and you may get 10 different answers.

    Good evening Ms Robin! I just love the way you sew the scrunchies, I have not tried to do any of them yet, they look so pretty, I think that will be a good project to sew to give away to charities . I notice that girls use them a lot. Also large size bands will make a cute wrist band. Left over fabrics can be used or special fabrics to match their outfit. Thank you so much for such an excellent tutorial.

      I was surprised that this version (around a hair tie) was actually easy to sew. The idea of sewing around the elastic tie seemed very difficult but it was Easy peasy. I think this style was easier and quicker to make than the 1/4” elastic. They would be wonderful for charity sewing. You can even sew together smaller scraps to get a larger piece. That would be fun!

    Just a thought make your fold on the short end and press then sew and turn as explained this should make it easier to tuck in other short end and stitch done less fiddling w trying to fold and sew

      For most it’s personal preference and how thick your hair is. I have short hair now but when It was long my preference was the hair tie version.

    Hi Robin, can you please tell me where you ordered the zippers from? I have a pouch project due for my friend which calls for 25 zippers. I don't like doing zipper at all, but I guess it's better that buttons. Have a great day. Your scrunchies look so easy, but I know your trick, you make it look easy and I struggle with it. lol

      Hi Pat! I buy my zippers from ZipIt on Etsy.
      I struggle too, Pat. The difference is I’ve usually made the project a few times before I do a video for you guys. 🎄☃️❄️
