*Hi Sifu Thomas. My Sifu recommends the protection on the left jaw unfortunately. Obviously I don't want to argue with him since I'm a new student and now after watching your video confirms what I read in Bruce's book too. What do you think I can do to avoid the bad habit and not be told off by the Sifu either? Thanks in advance!*
@@zetareticulan321 because its the rear side, corkscrew is more natural alightment than the vertical. You have to open the stance, because otherwise you couldn't rotate the body, but thats not the reason.
What a terrible take. Martial arts is for everybody. Unless when you're teaching as a business, which is fine, secrecy just for the sake of keeping techniques secret is a shitty habit of the pass

Old boxing habit when people transitioned to JKD. It's understandable tho since in boxing, your punches twisted horizontal before impact made the shoulder cover the left side of the chin while the other hand cover the right side of the chin. Since good boxers rarely counter punch right back at the same straight line rather than at an angle, the rear hand with big gloves cover the side of the chin instead of the front makes sense
Or better yet, position your feet in a way wherein you don't need to to cover with your rear hand. Your body position and evasiveness does the job in case the opponent counters. 👌
@@ThomasMarxJKD, yep, though I personally put my rear hand cover to the side of the head. I like the principle of putting the hand in front of the jaw, but when I do so, it blocks my view of the lower body part of my opponent and I don't like it. I personally like seeing everything that my opponent does, from his foot, hip and up to his torso movement.

Well, what can I say...
Why do you turn the rear straight punch over instead of a vertical like the lead punch?
Because of the power line in the body alignment.
Is it also because you step to the side when throwing it?@@ThomasMarxJKD

Is it correct to say that the rear punch should be lined up with the rear foot? Thanks for taking the time to reply.@@ThomasMarxJKD
@zetareticulan321 no.
Well done, thank you. And why doesn't Tommy Carruthers have fresh videos? is he all right?
When it comes to computers, he is hopeless, that's why he does no youtube content.

The funny thing is that, the cover like showed here, is actually old school boxing. Watch jim driscoll fights...
