As it turns out, this Asteroids tabletop is now part of the Cradle of Aviation museum in Garden City NY. They have an arcade exhibit with about 70 machines
I just bought a complete mint astroids deluxe cocktail. the thing is flawless and mint, barely a scratch on the glass and all the art intact, only problem was pcb needed to be repaired paid 60 bucks for it lol
Hi, I have an all original Tipperary manufacturered asteroids cocktail, and for the last few years it has not made the warble noise associated with the spaceships. Neither the low sound for the big ships, nor the high sound for the little ships. Everything else is perfect. I have just recapped the sound board, put in a new big blue, etc. Anyway, do you have any idea what might prevent the enemy ship sounds? I thought it was to do with the 555 or the 556, but I don't have a clue what values should be going through them. Any help would be great nice to see someone still uploading this recently about this classic machine
There’s another channel called Joes classic arcade and he has done several asteroids repair videos. I’m pretty sure that some of them include missing sound so I would definitely check that out. Otherwise I’m going to need to look at the schematics again to see what part of the circuit handles the spaceship sounds
@@LIRetroGaming I have the full original manual (plus schematics) that I can video and link to this if it helps. I also have the full missile command schematics somewhere.
I have an asteroids deluxe cocktail that has neck glow but I don’t hear any chatter and I can’t hear game play so the board and the monitor are probably messed up but I’m not 100% sure. Do you think the power supply could be the issue also?
Thanks! That hum is vector monitor chatter and it’s getting picked up by the unshielded speaker wires. I’m pretty sure I could get rid of it or reduce it by replacing the wiring with better shielding
LONG ISLAND RETRO GAMING, can you explain more about what the vectors math box circuit does and its purpose? I don't understand the difference between vectors XY point counters compared to the Raster games Vertical & Horizontal sync counters. What is the differences between them? I'm not sure what the Vector generator IC chip does but its before the DAC video output, what does the Vector generator IC chip purpose? I'm not sure why arcade games use different types RAM chips "access times" any reasons why?
This video needs to go in a museum - along with a working table top arcade machine - for historical purposes!

Great work!! Cheers for sharing!
Amazing video, it's truly magical watching the process you go through to repair these!
Thanks Ryan! The arcades are always special and they are a fun challenge since there is normally a few different things that need to be fixed

The 1 and 2 player start buttons are both on but they don’t flash they are both stuck on, not sure why.
Great repair! What about the loud hum though?

Super! Thx!

You have vector problems when it flips? Or a bunk tube? And that gold trim on the glass stinks.
Lol.
